Am i the only one who actually enjoys the combat system of the witcher 1?
Just me?.....

Nah, its fine, the combat system of the second one seems kinda weird, you either swing wildly or dodge and get so far away from the enemy you have to run to get to it. The third game found a nice sweet spot to make the combat good, but i find it that by dodging you can defeat much stronger enemies then you are, at least in the tutorial area.

The faster movement mod is pretty useful.
It helps to remember its a game from 2007, and seems kind of janky and dated now.

try to get use to dodge, it will save you a lot, and button mapping too, if you play on KB

Thanks, I figure I have plenty of time ahead before I get to the third, especially if I start having fun with 1 and 2.

ah the first one, well, it still the same, although in all 3 ,the first one combat is the most simple, same advice as other 2 , use all tool that you got ,potion, poison..etc , learn what kind of poison that work again what monster...etc

Anyway... nude mod, because reasons.

You know I'll give you a good tip which may be seen as spoiler. Don't be like me and ignore Aard or you're gonna get seriously fucked. I spent 15 hours just to get through Act 1 and still then used a hit, run and hide policy to win the boss battle.

gather money > save > Plough > load, cause you DO need money in Witcher. srsly.

read the monster lore. it's good and makes you play better. even if it is the vampire (or any monster you think you are expert at) monster lore. just read them.
and some graphic options are more like "up to your taste". like "sharpening" and "vignetting" effects. (or even bloom) for me, game is far more better looking without sharpening and vignetting. and again, it's up to you.
also be sure take time and enjoy the map, even if it is a boring swamp.

On the same note regarding monsters, the boss fight at the end of chapter one is pretty tough - possibly the hardest in the game when compared to your level and skills. I don't recall the exact strategy anymore (knockdown helps iirc) but make sure you read up on it so you're spec'd right and have decent gear.

Level up Aard sign in chapter 1. You'll be glad if you do.
EDIT: and one more thing which is not a gameplay tip. Unless you want to minimize reading subtitles to a minimum, or just can't stand foreign languages, I'd recommend to play with the original voiceover.

Basically go for sword tree, more damage overal, better choice for swarming enemies, use Aard for knockdowns and instant kills, Quen to block attacks, honestly those two are all you need, Igni is somewhat useful but Yrden and Axii are just horrible. Save before you do some dice poker :D

Read the Witcher books, or the game will feel like Mass Effect 3 vanilla ending.

I think that's overstating it. (never played ME3 btw) The game is construed in a way that still makes sense if you haven't read the books, and you get necessary bits as you get along. The whole thing with Geralt's amnesia looks like it was made with new players in mind.

The Witcher is a slow started. I personally did not enjoy the early parts all that much. There is also another area a bit further into the game that is quite annoying.
Also, even if you end up not enjoying The Wticher 1, The Withcer 2 might be worth trying, as the games are very different.

I've used a WONDERFUL 200 pages detailed step by step solution
there are points where U have 16 quests in parallel and you don't know how / when to do them not to ruin the story prosecution
You should look for it over the net
Also Look for 4 main mods
1) high texture
2) reduced weight
3) unofficial bug-quest fixes
4) Reshade + SweetFx 2.0 (mandatory IMHO)
HAVE FUN...it's really a LONG game but if you reach closing titles, you will enjoy with yourself for such a wonderful tale !

Hello Steamgibe,
I'm about to start playing the Witcher, I started it a while ago but got bored after a few hours in - I was just keeping moving from one game onto another at that time - but now I want to get back to it and enjoy it, then move to the second one - never played it yet - and eventually buy the third.
I was wondering, if some people around here could give me advice so I can fully enjoy it, as in "don't play without xx mod, it's so much better with it", or "don't forget to pick up this thing otherwise you're gonna regret it later".
Anything you can think of to make be better prepared prior to jumping in. For now I'm reading this page to have an overview of the mechanics.
No spoiler, please !
Thank you.
Here's a little something, not much but maybe some of you will find it interesting : http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/VKPN7/windforge
