If buying more games is your goal, is it more profitable in the long run to:
I also don't want to invest a ton of time into it as I do value my time
This is the key part. Unless you're very young, there's little point investing time into what is essentially a gamble.

Not worth it if you plan to sell the Mysterious cards.
Since he doesn't have complete sets (I'm assuming he doesn't) then he would have to acquire the cards. If he bought them on the marketplace, he'd have to wait 7 days before being able to sell the mysterious cards. By then the mysterious cards will drop to 10cents like they do every year, when the voting starts and you get a free card. He can always trade to complete sets but will he make a profit? Opposed to selling the cards he has. Is it worth the time trying to complete the sets?
Anyways I'd sell them if you don't care about levels. 2000 cards, probably get at least 100$, if you get 5cents per card on average.

Thanks for the informative reply. I don't want to hunt for cards to get sets, that would take a lot of time I'd think with as many cards as I have. That's an assumption, may be wrong.

It would take a lot of time with the amount of cards you have. Figure out which sets you want to complete, then trade the other cards to complete the sets you want. Trade any duplicates. Create and search threads in the forums of the specific game you need cards from trying to get 1:1/
Or use steamcardexchange.net but they don't have every card and its not always 1:1.
While its easy, with the amount of cards you have, it would take a while. If you're not willing to put that time in just to get levels then its not worth it imo.
PS: Booster packs are worthless most of the time. I get 1 a week thats worth 30 cents or so.

The booster pack drops are so low that it's not worth it to level up just for that chance. I'd simply sell your cards though if you have no interest in levelling up. This is the time to level up though... I crafted 128 badges, gained 30 levels, and still sold my rewards for more than $25.

Valve used to do big sale promotions where you could win really valuable items by crafting cards. Sadly, they stopped doing so, too much effort giving users fun things apparently :(
My advice is, if you get nothing for crafting this sale, just flip a coin and what it says.

You can find traders on SteamTrades that will trade you games for cards.... ;) Just sayin' :)

Very true! But it's so easy/quick to just mass list them all on the steam market! And I have too many cards to go through and buy a bunch of bundle games piece by piece

If you don't care about level, and wan't to have some more money to spend on new games, and don't have much time to do all sales.. Sell all the cards.
Either sell them in bulk to someone who wishes to purchase that many, or retail them on steam market. For that you can get tools like Steam inventory helper, where you could select all the cards (manually) and then put them all on market it one shot (it could also automatically adjust to current market price with adjustment you select)
One more thing - if you decide to sell them on steam market, for that quantity steam will ask of SSN/other ID verification.

Thanks for the info! I do have SIH ready to go as needed. I love that the community develops handy tools like this!

not sure I follow? you mean wait for these special sale cards and then craft?

A good point, though so far I've had no issues on this site which is the only one I trade on.

Alliance Scum already on steam... you should just loose your cards (just sell and buy new games).

Boosters are only semi-profitable in 2+ year range and if you can get yourself to at least level 100 in a reasonable price.
Otherwise get level 10 only to receive free season sale cards from voting, and either trade or sell them. Trading is more profitable, but also more time-consuming – especially if you don't want CS:GO, TF2, or Dota 2 stuff but actually meaningful things.
(Oh, you don't have to craft 10 badges for level 10. Being on Steam gets you instantly to level 1, 100 games to level 2, and the community badge to level 4 at least. So you can save up more cards to sell.)

Thank you all for your help, I think it's fairly clear that given my desire to not spend a ton of time on this it would be most advantageous to just sell the cards en masse via SIH. I consider my question answered very well and am closing the thread.

Background: I only became active on Steam this past January, so this is my first seasonal sale. I've also never crafted a badge! I'm not interested in steam level, but I do <3 games.
Right now I have a couple thousand cards because I haven't bothered researching what to do with them. If my primary goal is more games, should I sell the cards or craft with them? If I craft with them, my understanding is that I raise my level (increased booster drops) and have the chance of getting booster packs which may or may not be profitable in the long run. I also don't want to invest a ton of time into it as I do value my time a little :)
I'm guessing that just selling the cards is the answer, but would love confirmation from the pros!
