Where were the Distant Worlds 2 keys given away for free since they were bundled on April 1 2025 and day after, already on April 2 they were listed at zero value here on SG?

Probably some streamer, that gives away Humble Choice games within a day or two for a couple of twitch points.
Edit: Happened to a couple of choice games every month for wa while now.

That certainly isn't the case here. There is no reason for anyone to believe that this game belongs into this category.

Thanks for the tip, lol - one of the gray sites already sells it for close to $ 0.6, so like 1% of the cover price.

In a way fully justified decision to make it 0 CV, which, btw, in my opinion may become a growing problem on SG. It seems to happen usually to one high value game from every monthly Humble Choice, that it's almost immediately dumped at rock bottom price buy folks reselling games from bundles on gray sites.

This may lead to folks looking for gaining CV from them to either be less interested in subscribing (which would mean less GAs) or to race to dump their keys in GAs immediately after the choice's launch (which could cause hard to manage GA peaks on Tuesdays, followed by significant decrease of GAs for the rest of the month).

Additionally, for quite a while purchases of bargain keys from gray sites were for many folks used to raise their CVs, also leading to creation of many GAs. With the current policy we should expect the number of those GAs to significantly decrease.

I wonder, if this is the best for SG and if this is, what we really want.

A very good question. I get that "cheating the CV system" is a big thing but honestly when you see how many public giveaways there are above level 3 now... who really cares?
Most 0CV games entirely disappear from SG because fewer people are likely to give it away because again, CV is the main goal?

So we get fewer GAs, some great games are never to be seen again but yay "bad users" can't get to level 10 for nothing... which really wouldn't give them anything at all but, well, a "level 10" on their profile really.

I get the reasoning that led to ** games but that was when bundles (and freebies) were plentiful, and so were giveaways. We're not there anymore.

CV and pimping their group stats.
For group stats are the full steam prices for the games calculated, not only the cv.

And yes, it would be better to (perma) suspend the users that always try to exploit the cv system.
But i don't expect that such, needed, steps get ever done

Most groups still allow 0CV games and it's really up to group mods to allow that or not so I don't think it's a problem that concerns everyone since mods can moderate their own group, accept members or refuse them depending on their GAs and decide on a per case basis.

Absolutely.

But how many groups did you know that really check their members ?
And forbid/limit freebies ?
And invest a lot of lifetime to check such stuff "all the time" ?

I can tell you from my own group, with ~150 active members (the rest are only each few eeks/months active) that it is a daily work for 2 staff members.

But that's exactly my point. Group mods who don't check don't care. And members of those groups can decide if they want to remain in a group that allow (for example) people to amass massive amount of group CV with (for example) those overpriced asset flips. They still get group CV btw, even though they are marked ** for actual CV so really what's the point?

You have a group that's not open. So you decide who gets in. I imagine that the people who are in are users you trust enough to follow your group rules so in the end what do games marked as ** because one streamer got a bunch of keys on the grey market matter?

Would be nice and would create much lesser work.
Sadly the rules police is daily needed :D (but by far not in all cases for such stuff)

Each one were and are able to buy this game(s) for a -99% price so it don't have specificly something to do with that crap streamer.
Pying below 40 cents and getting $50 added feels very unfair.

When you believe that none in our group would try to exploit the system then you are a bigger optimist as i thought :-D -giggling-
I would like this but, sadly, people try to find loopholes and way around the existing rules.

lol it's been quite some time since someone called me that.

Way of the world. Some people get very far by cheating. Some go all the way to the top. Nothing can't really be done about it.

There's a streamer who gives away a massive amount of games from the monthly as soon as he can get his hands on grey market keys.
I'm still not sure how this is considered a freebie since his cult members, I mean followers, have to watch his stream for an insane amount of hours to get enough points to get anything but here we are.
The games that don't have cards are the first to go because they're most likely the first to get to the grey market as bot farmers are not interested in those at all.

Their "invested time" cost them no money.
So it is counted as free.

Which is absolutely correct from my point of view.
Special because they can run it in the background, a lot do it with multiple accounts etc. etc. etc.

It takes way more time to get points to grab games in this guy's stream than it takes "money" to grab cheap bundles on indiegala or keys on the grey market.
So by those standards every game that's ever been bundled should be marked as 0CV, which brings us back to the question: does it matter at all?

Time aren't money.
So no, it isn't the same as bundles.

I get your point, Masa, I really do. And I get that if people make multiple copies GAs with games they get for free, things can escalate but again... we're not talking about robbing a bank here. The same people can get dozens of games for cents. Does that make those games more worthy of GAs than actually good games that were in one bundle that's been targeted by one streamer with a few hundreds followers, some of whom are on SG?

At some point, pursuing courses of action just because "some people may" exploit one thing or another to gain something that's ultimately worthless is dooming the system more than helping it.

I get your point and none of our points are perfect because the available possibilities aren't.
Cg would need to change stuff and this will not happen as long as he earns good with the site (for doing nearly nothing, when you add the invested timeframes of done workt up, for/in all the years).

Sometimes it just feels completely random. I gave away multiple copies of Gav-Gav Odyssey from a bundle several months ago, and maybe a month or so ago, it was retroactively set to 0 CV as of Jan 2022... Couldn't find anywhere about it being given away for free.

sometimes its because 1 currency gets the discount to high.
I will say its discouraging to give unbundled games that are ~90% discount because you can't tell if its converted price is 98-99% iin Russia or something.

honestly would rather abusers get suspended so more people feel encouraged to giveaway games. With the gray market and tiny parts of the worlds regional pricing getting included in these choices I feel its overall discouraging to many to give things away.

Yeah. I don't mind free games being set to 0 CV, but when any game can be retroactively zeroed out for no reason, it makes me more anxious about making GAs. If something can be retroactively set to 0 CV three years later, with the 0 CV date set even before the bundled date, despite never being given away for free, there's not much trust/transparency. Most of the rest of that bundle was also set to 0 because, well, who knows?

honestly would rather abusers get suspended

Clearly that's crazy talk :')

It was available for 0,39€ in key shops.
And all that is -99% (on the steam price) will get set to free here on sg.
