So me and my friends wants to play dying light in school, which steam is blocked and 3G is too laggy, we tried the lan option but it wouldn't work. I would just like to know how we could play with the lab option.

Alternatively, couldn't you just study in school, and play at home?

Ah, fair enough. To play in the LAN option, you still need to have both of the PCs connected somehow. Are they connected into somesort of network? That's basically all I can do to help.

We are connected to the school wifi that's it, but since we are basically in the middle of no where the 3G is terrible here

How far are you from your friend? If this is near enough you can make it in good ol' way - direct connection of PCs through cable ^^

I don't know iof laptops have this port but you can try good old LAN cable - I don't remember how it works precisely because I did it last time a long time ago but you can google that.
I would at least try becasue it is good, old, tested method of connectin PCs.

If you want to LAN, make sure the game supports it and you'll want to get a router/switch and a couple ethernet cables. You could try plugging the computers directly into each other, but they'll need to be able to auto cross/switch the LAN cable. A standard Ethernet cable is a straight through cable meaning the receiving and sending pins are the same on both sides, so if you plug into each other directly the computer will need to be able to switch the pins through the software. That or like I said you'll need to get a device to put in the middle. Or you can buy a cross over cable.

You can also try this..

http://www.tunngle.net/en/

Though i am not sure if it would still be block within the network, but this allows you to play lan games over the internet so if you can get it to work, then you could also play with other friends within the building.

Also using a cat5 aka network cable will also do the trick here is a quick guide on how to set it up

http://www.lanpartyguide.com/lansetup.html

either way i hope you get it to work and have fun,you can also if you have more then one person who wants to play, and have an area where people can meet you could have a small lan party

Also note if your going to connect just two pc you can not just any network cable, you will need a crossover cable....just a heads up

http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-CAT5E-Crossover-Cable-feet-Red/dp/B000067RFT

There usually yellow but this one seems to be red there are yellow ones, color really does not matter they just made them yellow so at a glance you knew it was a cross over cable

Glad to help, plus i was where you was at one time,i bought the wrong cable,as there was a time when i used to transfer files to the original xbox through lan bought lan cable to find out i needed a cross over cable lol.

Land is nice when doing things local,no ping issues,no signal to worry about dropping and so on....the internet and online has done a lot good for gaming, but it has also killed one the best things about playing with friends and that is social skills and well choice not to game with some random kid in there moms basement who always seems to have "fudged your mother' if you can get what i mean by fudged lol.

Anyhow i am just saying i do miss getting with "real freinds" and playing some rounds of say Golden Eye...anyhow i hope this works out so you can play with your friend and have a blast

If one of you has Gigabit-Ethernet a crossover cable is not needed as Gigabit has AUTO-MDI/X-option which changes the wires to match.

Furthermore you also could start a private WLAN and connect to it...
