This Romanian guy claimed to have gotten my profile from HERE and added me.

Bloody strange guy. It's either he is out to scam or beg for a game.

When he couldn't get either, he blocked me. Now, WHY would he block me? I wasn't rude to him. I didn't even do anything to him!

So, can Steamgifts not openly link our Steam profiles. It's not the first time some weirdo added me from here.

I think public profiles are needed so that people can check if a giver is genuine. If you don't like wierd people, don't accept requests from strangers.

Well, fair enough.
Let this thread serve as a warning then. It makes little sense for someone to add you, say those rubbish and then block you.

So, you get contacted by someone shady you don't know, and then you complain here that he blocked you?

What is your deal

Public URL are needed, to judge giveaways.

I got two weirdos yesterday begging me to give them portal 2, because I have a portal 2 giveaway, because they had no money and yadadadadadada.

Luckily it takes 2 seconds to block people :P

Believe me, it's not my first time. There was even a prick who asked me for an invite. When I refused he started throwing all sorts of vulgarities at me.

He was also trying to get around paying his local price, shouldn't that get him banned from this site?

Out of the couple hundreds of reasons to have him banned, that is not one of them.

I am actually wondering is it actually against steam rules "to get around paying" the "local price"?
Thank You, and Good Night.

Depends on how you do it. They don't seem to mind if someone in another region gifts you something, but using a VPN to access different prices or things that wouldn't be available in your region can get you in trouble if they catch you.

Ignore the friend request and/or set your profile to private.

When I get someone like that adding me I usually just say "no, sorry" then remove them immediately.

To be fair, he wasn't begging... yet. He was looking to pay in USD (most likely) because some games are overpriced in Europe (which is why he asked where you were from). He realized you're a bit "slow", and moved on without a fuss. You're the real weirdo here, linking his profile, trying to shame him (I guess lol).

I sort of expected some kind of harassment, but I haven't had any. Are you less likely to attract jerks if you stick to group giveaways (even if it's just SGifts)?

Nope, I haven't had any random people harrass me through any of my private, group, or public giveaways.

I think it would be good if closed game deals would not show up on the page once they have been marked sent and received.

Because there are actually people who search through the closed games for a title they want, so they can beg it from people who gave it in the past.

If the begging were restricted to just the time the giveaway is open and then until the person receives it, it would be better!

I never accept friend requests unless I know them from somewhere else and have talked to them at least once before. This is the reason why.
