I'm thinking about purchasing one of them eventually. Which one? Anything I should know?

Poll

Also, on the Fallout 3 store page, it says that "Fallout 3 is not optimized for Windows 7 and later".
What is this about? Should I avoid Fallout 3, or I'm good to go?

Thanks.

Oh, and I assume there have been threads like these before. Sorry if it's a duplicate.

There have been a ton of threads about this. You should go back and re-read. Some are very informative. But from what I can recall, the primary distinction came down to environment: city ruins versus desert.

Fallout 3 works flawless on windows 7, i've never had any kind of problem with it. It's a very good game with a very intense atmosphere, but its history is kinda lineal. In Fallout New Vegas, you have that new hard mode (a very good challenge in conjunction with the "very hard" level), tons of rpg elements, and the history is more "customizable". Personally, I'd go for Fallout 3, but New Vegas it's really good also, so... If you can wait for one of those 75% discounts, you should buy both of em.

Fallout 3 has a mod that allows you to play it in windows 7 if i am not wrong.

I have the same problem, i should probably buy both.

P.D: I heard New vegas has a lot of mods, but is buggy as fuck, and Fallout 3 has a lot of DLCs.

The mod (if I am thinking of the same thing you are thinking of) removes GFWL, but it's optional. There is a small multi-thread fix that is necessary on Win7 if the pc has more than 2 threads, but that is included in the latest unofficial patch.

There's a mod in New Vegas actually that adds all of Fallout 3 to New Vegas. Not sure on how solid it is, but it seems worth checking into.

New Vegas --> more rpg and closer to classic Fallout
fallut 3 --> more "oblivion-like"

Fallout 3 is more like oblivion, because it was made by Bethesda, New Vegas was not.

May not be optimized for win 7 but it will run. It's a great game love to story fallout new Vegas I found to be not as entertaining. I know others may disagree with me on that.

Both are equally good. But if you have to choose one, that depends on your taste and skills. Fallout 3 is more serious and dramatic with Bethesda's Oblivion and Skyrim style, and the PC version requires a lot of tweaking (although depending of each PC and issue) to get it working properly: http://steamcommunity.com/app/22370/discussions/0/828937546147175081/. New Vegas has a lighter tone and is more close to the original games in style and stories, and doesn't require extra configurations. But both games has excellent mods found on Nexus.

F3 ran fine for me on Windows 7.

Only snag I ran into was from the main menu click LOAD FILES (might be under settings) and CHECK ALL THE DLC or it won't be in the game!

I'd recommend both games, they're good but different. F3's got Liam Neeson as your dad though. ;)

I had more fun with Fallout 3 personally, a system crash made me lose my Fallout New Vegas save about a third way through the main story, and I haven't touched it since.

I'm currently still having fun playing Fallout: New Vegas (with a lot of mods, I beat it once vanilla), though in FO3's defense, I haven't completed a full play through of that game yet, but I REALLY like FO:NV!

I had to go through quite some hassle to make Fallout 3 work under Windows 8.1. And then after playing for a while I realised it wasn't worth any of all that trouble :( Way, way overhyped in my humble opinion.

Both have advantages.

Fallout 3

  • More interesting locations to wander around
  • More interesting encounters

Fallout: New Vegas

  • More interesting story with multiple endings
  • More interesting followers

Both are good, I spent way more time on New Vegas because there is far more main story content, and the multiple outcomes creates incentive for multiple characters. I'd say either play Fallout 3, then New Vegas, or just skip right to New Vegas.

Also, Brotherhood of Steel 4lyfe.

Wow, thanks everyone. I'll go with New Vegas, as it seems more like my kind of game. It also won the poll.
I'll try New Vegas, and if I like it, I'll give Fallout 3 a try. :)

Fallout 3 is much bigger than Vegas, same rpg system, same graphics. But Vegas plot is more exciting.

Emptier maybe, both were the same size, NV had around 400 locations, 3 had around 200.

Actually both maps are nearly identical in size, though NV has around 400 locations while 3 has about 200....

True that but people who haven't played the previous games aren't gonna give a f**k. FO3 should have been a separate game.

As an RPG, FPS, whatever, new vegas is more exciting, especially if you count the DLCs, youll have factions to meet, to join or to destroy, that will move the main quest in different directions, the encontures are more varied and interesting, it has many many more guns and armors and the morality and not violent accions are more present and again interesting.

PD: what ever game you play, make sure you are very intelligent, it will give more XP trough the entire game, and more points to spend in other things.

Fallout 3 feels like a shooter with RPG elements especially compared to New Vegas.
But then again some like it that way
