Time to appreciate what we have. What is your favorite win, and why?
(Maybe a question that has been asked before, but what's the harm in getting new, fresh answers?)

The one at the top for me is probably Staxel. I probably wouldn't have bought it in a while had I not won it and I'm so glad that I did. It's a Minecraft style Stardew Valley where the focus is more on building houses for new villagers than to farm and make money. Love it a lot, really chill game.

Also going to mention G-senjou no Maou - The Devil on G-String. I wouldn't have played this if I hadn't won it because I was pretty unfamiliar with it, and boy would I have missed out if I didn't because it is a wild ride from start to end.

I do appreciate most of my wins though, being on SG has really made me more open to trying new games that I wouldn't have noticed otherwise!

Do you have a favorite SG win?

  1. Risk of rain, easily one of the most fun roguelike metriodvanias back in the day, lots of replay value
  2. Overture- from the dev it was unexpectedly fun a roguelike almost bullet hell type game
  3. Oblivious Garden- not for everyone, but better than expected as well

Most of the AAA games i've played are not as good as expected, the indie scene is where it is at.

I have two favorites so far.

First is Sid Meier's Civilization V. I am a big fan of strategy games, and this one did not disappoint. I like that it's turn based so I don't have to pause like in some of my other favorites. I still need to complete a campaign, but I've taken a break to try and knock out some of my backlog and play some games with my brother and some friends from work.

My other favorite is The Stanley Parable. I absolutely love the humor, and the different possibilities of the branching story make it a great game to replay. I am waiting to play it again so I can get the achievement for not playing for 5 years. I think I have about two more years to wait for it.

Probably a toss up between Sleeping Dogs and Catherine

Super memorable games that brought hours of fun.

It is a difficult question. I would most likely go with Tyranny, I spent a lot of fun hours with that game (and luckily before Obsidian, in their usual fashion, nerfed all fun elements out of it into oblivion).

It's either Assassin's Creed Odyssey or Elex. I doubt I would have played either of them if I didn't win them, and apparently both are a lot of fun.

My favourite game among the won ones is Wasteland 2 though.

Hmmm difficult to choose!!

Probably these two:
A Plague Tale: Innocence
INSIDE
Both great story games - both are pretty well reviewed already :p

And games I never would have thought to buy and try that I have really liked:
Children of Zodiarcs
Her Story

Never would have tried these if I hadn't won them, and that would have been sad because they are great!
Honestly I love how sg exposes you to games you never would have tried otherwise.

I think I had the most fun with Prey, the original - you can't buy it any more, it had a great soundtrack and some really interesting mechanics. The close runner-up would be Mad Max.

I have several faves. Dragon Age (my first win); Hell Girls; Star Wars - The Force Unleashed I; Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners (can't keep the kids off this one!)... just to name a few.

Who would've guessed that having a large library and Steam's family sharing capability would've been so helpful during the COVID-19 shutdown!

Terraria, my first win, since my friend literally won the other copy for the giveaway. Amazing moment.

Very tough question, I have quite a few wins among my all-time favourite games. Even just top 5 is hard!

Hitman 2 - Fell in love with the gameplay, the random people walking around & locations quickly. Immersive and hilarious, binged the heck out of it during a rough time and it cheered me up immensely.
Redout: Enhanced Edition - Adrenaline rush, incredible soundtrack, smooth controls. Probably the best racing game I've ever played and I love the genre. Not sure I've ever felt 'so alive' while playing a game before, if that makes sense. Kinda like being on a rollercoaster.
Forgotton Anne - Absolutely beautiful and heartwarming game. Graphics, music...highly underated.
ABZÛ - While short, it was a pretty close to perfect game for me. The underwater was so calming, the soundtrack...beautiful experience.
Tales from the Borderlands - I loved Telltale games but was worried I wouldn't appreciate it as much because I didn't know all the Borderlands lore, but definitely worried for nothing. Loved the characters and laughed a lot, possibly my favourite telltale game overall.

"The Deadly Tower of Monsters" and "Hammerwatch". Both games have stuck with me (especially the plot twist in Deadly Towers, and the music in Hammerwatch) despite it being a while since I beat them. :)

Biohazard 6, Capcom's bundles and games are often not available from my country so im glad to won.
In addition, Life is Strange, Tales of Berseria, and the yakuza series were also memorable.

Dead Rising 2 by far. I always avoided the series to due the games time limit and as far as mechanics are concerned, that and inventory management are ones I frequently dislike. However, I always knew that the series was well received and when I saw a giveaway for that game I just got super excited to give it a try ... and a couple of minutes later I won the game :) What made this win so special tho is that, despite the time limit making me somewhat uncomfortable at first, I fell absolutely in love with this game. It is just so crazy and weird, very unlike most of today's AAA games that try to be more grounded and realistic in some way or another (which imo isn't good thing). The only other game that felt similar to me in that regard was Sunset Overdrive (however that game is noticeably more repetitive).

I dunno about favourites, but one of the "I can't believe it was actually a decent game" would be Uayeb. I just played this last month after winning it 2 years ago, and I gotta say it has some really neat ideas, and some really fun parts. The graphics, and some of the "I'm sure I've revisited this room/area already" felt like the original Mass Effect, the puzzles reminded me of older Tomb Raider games, and the vast emptiness reminded me of any open-world game (because I generally hate them). Apparently 99% created by one guy, it has a lot of effort put into it, and is one of those games that, even though I may have never bought the game, I definitely am glad I played the game.

I won Gris before it was bundled and it is such a pretty game! It's a visual representation of the five stages of grief, that was really relatable for me and, not going to lie, tears were shed. :''D
Another lucky win for me was Vampyr, which I really love! It makes for an excellent quarantine game with vampires and plaques XD

I've been really lucky on SteamGifts but I've always strived to give more than I get (and I have :D)! I think that's my favorite part of Steamgifts, winning the awesome feeling of being generous while also taking joy in receiving! <3

It would be Bastion, Fine Sweeper then Civ VI.
Bastion was really good and I finished it not long ago (the soundtrack!).
For Fine Sweeper, I just love the minesweeper game haha
I didn't play Civ VI long, but I was really happy to win it and wish to get more into it.
My last win was Borderlands GOTY, I suppose it will become a favourite when I get to play it (I'm still in the middle of Borderlands 2).

On a negative note, I was really happy to win The Witcher Enhanced Edition (as I love The Witcher 3, and almost finished it), but I couldn't endure the gameplay for more than a few hours...

I won Witcher 1 when I was new and just entering whatever I recognized, but I never got the game. Which might've been for the best because people are saying it's outdated and it sounds a bit annoying to play. Now I try to only enter stuff I'm fairly sure I would enjoy playing. (Which can backfire, I have no idea what I was thinking with Hotline Miami...)

Oh what is wrong with Hotline Miami ? I didn't want it at first, but then all the excellent reviews (and the Easter egg in The Last of Us) made me want to get it. Sometimes I try on the contrary to enter for games I didn't especially have in my wishlist, but if they have excellent reviews, I want to see what all the fuss was about. That's how I discovered Bastion actually.

But yeah, The Witcher 1 was quite annoying for me, I just watched summaries on yt afterwards lol

Hotline Miami is absolutely not for everyone because of its insta-death gameplay. A guy just pokes at ya and you have to redo the entire floor. At this point I doubt I will even be able to beat the game. I have a hard time in general with difficult, frustrating games because they do nothing but make me angry and being angry at a game is not fun so I avoid hugely popular difficult games like Dark Souls, Hollow Knight and the like. But I wanted to try Hotline Miami anyway, and I'm still working on it but it's not going well.

It is absolutely not a bad game though, some people love this frustrating stuff and others (me) just like to read visual novels and play calming farming sims.

Thanks for the heads up. In that case it might not be for me as well. I tried Hollow Knight and although it was nice, it was also very frustrating.
