Maybe it's to hold up two fingers to the grey market probably.

Really ? I bought it for 3 CS:GO keys on Steamtrades I think, a couple of months ago, not such a bad deal.

Anyway, glad it's back on the store, now it's readily available again and everyone can get it at an affordable price.

It was stated when they were discontinued that the intention was to bring them back. On top of that the games been super cheap a bunch of times so anyway seriously holding onto copies to attempt to sell for ridiculous prices was a dumb fuck.

Some removed games do sell for big money due to rarity, usually ones that never had keys and were only available as gifts or ones that were pulled unexpectedly meaning traders didn't have a chance to stockpile them. Alan Wake keys were commonplace and its removal was announced (along with the fact it was supposed to be returning) so it would probably have never gone above $10-20. Even if they had turned round and announced it wasn't coming back it would have been years before the price really started to increase due to it's availability.

For a rare game maybe. For Alan Wake? I kind of doubt it. Even with the game having been unavailable on the Steam store for some time there were probably alternatives out there and other avenues by which to get it without having to look for an overpriced Steam gift.

Gifts generally cost more than keys as it's guaranteed to work but they aren't any more "valuable" as such. Yes there are gift collectors out there but they're a lot rarer than the hardcore game collectors that the traders are targeting with these items.

Exactly. Was offered at 90% off I don't know how many times. And it looks like the base price is lower now than it was before but the current 80% off doesn't beat the 90% off from before in terms of historical low price. Not to mention the franchise bundle was in $1 Tier of a Humble Bundle so there are probably extra keys floating around.

Remedy Entertainment's Tweet about the game being back on Steam. The original music is still in the game thanks to Mircosoft renegotiating the rights.

I was wondering what they did with the soundtrack, thanks for the update.

Very nice move from Microsoft in my opinion.

Absolutely. I doubt that they'll make any profit by renewing the rights just to keep the games available.

I'm still annoyed that not only did Rockstar let the rights to the songs in Vice City lapse, they also removed them for existing customers with a patch. If I still had the game on CD I'd still have them.

I buy the "Alan Wake" version on HB, and I receive also the soundtrack (both mp3 and flac versions). I don't know why, because the soundtrack should be in the collector edition, but it work !

If you are interrested, here the link for collector and franchise edition, all at the same price than steam, but with DRMFree version and -10% for monthly subs:
Collector Edition: https://www.humblebundle.com/store/alan-wake-collectors-edition
Franchise: https://www.humblebundle.com/store/alan-wake-franchise

It's a great game, I definitely recommend getting the game if you don't already own it.
American Nightmare is bad though.

You're the 4th person I've seen in two days talking about spelt... you realize that's a different word than spelled, correct? As in it's not a typo, it's an entire different word unless you're from the UK.

What a coincidence, I just started to play it yesterday for the first time since I bought it back in 2013. And I skill got it cheaper. It shows how good the steam sales were back then.

The $5 one is 4.20€ here instead of usual 5€, wonder if that's intentional or just people here knowing how currency exchange rates work.

More like someone forgot about VAT.

$5 = 4.38€
$5 + 20% VAT = 5.26€

I'm not sure if i can say it here, but I was told there was a russian website called gama-gama where they appear to be selling unrestricted copies of alan wake games for cheap apparently.
I'd buy it but no paypal option available there :(

Why not buy it off Humble, you'll get a DRM-free version that'll work everywhere in the universe, in addition to a steam key (according to store page). Main game's just E2,50 (or E3,30 collector's ed). American nightmare is not essential, imo.

GOG just mailed they've got something akin to the collector's ed too for E2,50: https://www.gog.com/game/alan_wake
