Thanks to everyone that signed up for the beta and for all the feedback that we received! The beta is now closed, although it'll likely be returning in a couple of weeks.

Hey everyone, we're planning to do an open beta for the upcoming SGv2 during the weekend of the 30th. This will give everyone a chance to view the revised site, along with the changes we've been developing. During this time we're hoping to get some feedback and insights from the community. The open beta will simply last for a few days, and then we'll gauge the response from the community and see what remaining changes need to be completed, or if the site is ready to launch during the month of June. A few notes...

  1. All content on the beta site will be removed prior to launch, and you should assume all giveaways are fake, and created for the sole purpose of testing.
  2. The same rules from SG apply, so please avoid posting spam, referrals, or any inappropriate comments.
  3. You can leave feedback on the beta site, but you won't be able to access it after the beta closes. Therefore, you might want to post feedback here on the SG forums. If so, please keep all the feedback in this particular topic.

I'll be updating this topic throughout the week to talk about some of the new features we'll be introducing on the beta site! If you have any questions about the posted features, you're welcome to comment here and I'll try to answer them. Let's start with one below.

Whitelist / Multiple Steam Group Giveaways

The new site has some improvements when it comes to controlling who can enter your giveaways. First off, you can create a giveaway for multiple Steam groups. It's fairly straightforward, you're presented with a list of your Steam groups, and you can select any number of them. Users can enter if they're a member of any group you select.

There's also another addition, called whitelists. You can click a button on user profiles, and add that person to your whitelist. When creating a giveaway, you can select your whitelist in the same way that you select a Steam group. For example, I could create a giveaway for the S.Gifts and S.Trades groups, and also my whitelist. Now, my giveaway is running and I discover John Doe seems like an upstanding member of the community, although he's not a member of my Steam groups. In a simple click, I can add John Doe to my whitelist, and he'll now see my whitelist enabled giveaways on his homepage.

You might be wondering what happens if John Doe enters my giveaway, and I then decide to remove him from my whitelist. In that case, his entry remains valid, since he entered at a time when I gave him permission, and I can't simply invalidate or remove his entry at will.

Blacklist

I'll mention this now, since a number of users were asking about it in the comments. This feature is available on the new site, and you can add anyone to this list by clicking a button on their profile. Once added, they can no longer open or enter your giveaways, and your giveaways are removed from their homepage. If they have an existing entry in one of your giveaways, it's valid, and you can't use the blacklist to remove their entry.

Key Giveaways

The new site offers the ability to incorporate Steam keys into your giveaways. When creating a giveaway you have the option of pasting in a key list, with keys separated by new lines. The only limit is based on your feedback score. If you have 50 available giveaway slots, you can create a giveaway for 50 copies.

For giveaways below 100 copies, the keys will remain hidden to the winners until you check the sent box. This gives you an opportunity to review the winners before the key is visible to them. You can also add/edit/delete keys for the winner of any giveaway after it's closed. For convenience, giveaways for 100 copies or greater will automatically make the keys visible to the winners by default.

Keys can also be Steam redeemable URLs, or Humble Bundle gift URLs. The winners will see a link instead of a key to redeem their gift.

Stay tuned for more information coming soon!

Hm. The Blacklist section wasn't there before, so I assumed that you didn't want the feature to migrate with the bad connotation and added a Whitelist to compensate. I was thinking that instead of Rejecting users, you Welcome them for entry. But I know this wouldn't work with itstoohard giveaways and private forum giveaways. Hm.

Also, bump for stickied visibility! (Hey, the FAQ doesn't see that much action, how can you assume one sticky will do better than the other? :P)

I think, the in-built blacklist is a horrible idea.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

And can you explain why do you think so? Hard to elaborate if you just say "sth is bad because it's bad" ;p

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

For a simple reason, some people might abuse it for no right reason.(like:"you don't like X thing like me" then i blacklist you.)

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

sorry - but it's not an abuse ;p Right now as well anyone having BlackList can add you into it for whatever reason he/she feels like. And there's not such a rule that you may only blacklist people if this or that :>

Well you couldn't use them for public GA here

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

because public GAs have many entries and rerolling them would take too much time. You could have tens of rerolls per GA if unlucky. The way v2 does it no rerolls are needed. And if GA creator, person who bought the game and paid for it, doesn't want you in his GA, what right do you have to force him other way? :>

Exactly. I've never bothered making a blacklist, because I don't want to go to the trouble of petitioning support for re-rolls, but I think having a built-in blacklist will greatly increase the amount of people that use them. Perhaps that will better allow for users to police themselves and get people to behave. For example, adding people to one's blacklist for calling out new users' giveaways as "fake".

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Or adding him to blacklist because his from country which you don't like etc.
Bad thing imo.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

People can already do that with Blacklists, although they can't use them for public giveaways. I usually find its simpler to just to private giveaways anyways. I can avoid the auto-entry scripts that way.

There are already BlackLists here in v1 (heck, I have mine for almost a year), so I don't really understand your point. Already anyone can BL anyone for anything. Yet most ppl don't, as they use common sense. How do you think it's gonna be different? The only difference is that now Support doesn't have to deal with shitload of "BlackListed user won my GA" tickets as it's all automatic.

I'll say even more - for average user it's a good change. As a lot of top contributors (me included) don't want to make public GAs because they didn't want certain people to be eglible to enter. In my case it's cheat-CV-boosters and people I caught cheating in my puzzles. With the addition of implemented BL a lot of contributors will just BL these ppl and will feel ok to create public GAs yet again, what will benefit whole community excluding few certain individuals that were causing lack of quality GAs for whole community. Everybody wins except for people that actually deserve to lose.

And in the end - even if someone BL you just because idk - he doesn't like your avatar - does it really matter? It's a minority. On one hand you will not be able to jpoin 1-2 guys GAs (well unless you misbehave - then you will be blacklistedby many people and if you do you probably deserved it), on the other hand - a lot of ppl will BL commonly known cheaters/exploiters giving all fair users, including you, bigger chance to win. It's a Win-Win situation for everyone who follow the rules, and Lose-Lose for all shady characters out there.

  • A button for "Entries", with the "Created" and the "Won" ones, on the upper bar?
  • Can we manually modify our timezone?
  • Why the max points will be 250?
  • We can't see the entries in the "Entries", "Created" and "Won" pages. Also, a way to organize the giveaways in that pages by name, entries, date, etc. would be nice. (I like to exit the giveaways with >1000 entries)
  • In a poll, on the forum, the question is smaller than the options.
  • Now we can create giveaways of 1 minute. Before, the minimum time was 1 hour, and with intervals of 5 minutes. Is that intentional?
  • The comments meter on our profile is not counting the giveaway ones
  • A more clear way to enter Settings. Now, we can only access with the Sync button on the Account dropdown, or clicking the Account button. Maybe an option in the dropdown button.
  • Invites?

Upper Menu -> Giveaways -> View Entered

Can we manually modify our timezone?

Idk about it in future, but it takes your brtowser timezone. If you change timezone in your system and restart browser the SGv2 should have different timezone as well.

Invites

It's part of non-open-beta, don't bother with it :> It lets beta-testers during closed beta invite new beta-testers :>
