Edit: seems it wasn't the Orange Box but just Half-Life 1 (mostly for Counter-Strike); Steam launched September 12, 2003 and I got my account on 28 October 2003.

My Steam account was created because Payday: The Heist was given for free on Steam store at that time and I didn't have Steam installed. I used to not in favor of Steam due to having to install the platform which meant an additional software on my PC, but since then it has been my decision to migrate all games (as much as possible) into Steam (and Uplay/Origin occasionally).

I created my account because I got Civ 5 for free from GMG. Didn't do much for a while then saw bioshock infinate super cheap well what passed for super cheap just getting into modern PC gaming for about 12 bucks Then after a year or so, I discovered Humble Bundle, and it's been going downhill ever since.

Just noticed that a few days back, my Steam account celebrated 5 years. Since I never did a private giveaway before, figured that was as good reason as any to start.
Instead of just giving games, figured I ask, how old is your Steam account and did you create it specifically for one game or because someone told you about it? The reason I created a Steam account back then was to keep in touch with some friends and family. Back then, I was mostly a console and mmo player so didn't have much need for one, or saw the need for it. It wasn't until about 2 years ago that I started using Steam not just for chat but gaming as well and I'm glad I did.
Anyway, without further ado, 5 years of Steam, 5 giveaways. All of them (minus the whitelist one) are level 5+.
