And the only reason why I created a steam account was because my ex' friends missed me (shortly after the breakup with my ex), and they wanted to play games / be in touch with me still. So they bought me Killing Floor, and I got hooked! ^^

I had an account for Half-Life 2 when it was released, but forgot the email and password shortly after finishing the game (only owned HL2 anyway), and ended up making this account when Skyrim was released (or shortly before, I can't remember) I hardly used Steam until most retail games started using it. Now I'm addicted. :X

I've been on Steam for around 12 years. Like a lot of people I started using it to play Half-Life 2 :p But I lost my original account for a long time and have since abandoned it. Probably because I thought Steam was awful when it came out and wanted nothing to do with it. I hope you remembered to buy your account gifts for its birthday!

I seem to have created it for the Orange Box (and that mainly for Portal). Didn't do much after that untill about 2 months ago :)

Just noticed that a few days back, my Steam account celebrated 5 years. Since I never did a private giveaway before, figured that was as good reason as any to start.
Instead of just giving games, figured I ask, how old is your Steam account and did you create it specifically for one game or because someone told you about it? The reason I created a Steam account back then was to keep in touch with some friends and family. Back then, I was mostly a console and mmo player so didn't have much need for one, or saw the need for it. It wasn't until about 2 years ago that I started using Steam not just for chat but gaming as well and I'm glad I did.
