Lol, I was thinking the same thing, when it appeared for the free weekend I thought meh might as well try it. When I saw how much internet it would use to download I was like NOPE, not happening.

the funny thing is that both parts (SP, MP) take about the same space. it seems, they didn't bother using textures, sound samples and so on for both parts. instead they just copied everything from the SP part to MP. good job!

They are two separate, independent "games". You can install one without the other.

Most people don't play the SP at all. Those that do don't need to keep it installed after they are finished.

It's a feature.

valve does it too with half life 2 only they also charge you extra for it :)

i get that, but still - if most of the assets are used for both parts of the game (which we can safely assume), there should be a more intelligent way of installing both parts for those who want both.

and btw, i think way more people play the SP than you think. this is not only a multiplayer shooter, it's also a casual singleplayer game. in fact i know surprisingly many people who buy it only for the singleplayer and are not interested in MP at all.

i also think that in times of limited disk space (SSDs), games should not just forget about compression at all. especially audio compression is extremely efficient without noticable quality loss. and i just dont want to waste 50GB on my SSDs for each game.

As much as I hate to admit it, I play COD for the SP :)

why not. the single player is descent, actually, despite all the hate on the internet by the self-declared pro-gamers. ;) it may not have much depth to it. but i see it like this: it's like watching action movies like expendables. dull, yes. but enjoyable for a while.

Wow... even the largest game I ever played was 45 GB only.

71 GB, must be the best game in the universe! Megaload of goodness in it! Must try!

Sometimes the installation size on that screen is a lot different than the actual download though, I've had games come up as 20gb before that were only 8gb

It's absolutely disgusting. The worst part is that I really don't see why the single player is around 30GB. I understand the extinction mode is probably included, but still, it's unnecessarily large for a 6 hour campaign and average graphics.

but the Onslaught DLC and the Wolf DLC shouldn't be 30GB quite weird

Together they both only take up 34GB. The single player is 8, the multiplayer is 26.
(this is without any DLC)

Source: I won it here at SG and have it installed.

actual download size SP
actual download size MP

let's see how much it is on the hardrive in the end. ^^

EDIT: ok, the installation folder is only 36 GB.

"only"
MW3 SP + MP is ~15GB for me.
And Ghosts is basically MW3 with gray-like ambient, not greenish like MW3.
