Currently the review score is Mostly Negative, oof. Looks like people are having a lot of issues with stutter, shader compilation, and other jank. Too bad since it's a great game, I hope they fix it up eventually. Sucks for everyone who preordered.

I ended up bingeing all 6 seasons over the course of last month. The end of season 6 kind of seems like it's done, but kind of leaves it open too...

I think having some satisfying ending , even if its open ending is better then getting what happened to GoT .
Great show regardless tho i binged the first 5 seasons last year .... 6 was still in the making then , i just havent got around from clearing my backlog to get back to it and finish the series .

I agree with you. I'd be happy if they let the 6th season be the last. As much as I want more, I'd rather it quit while it's still good.

A really great game, horribly ported by Iron Galaxy (the ones from the disastrous port of Batman Arkham Knight before patches).
It's sad that such a good title with so much hype has fallen into their hands and not into more competent hands like those of Nixxes for example :c.

Hopefully they fix it soon u.u

It's the same guys who ported Arkham Knight? After that fiasco I'm surprised anyone gave them another shot at a pc port, especially Sony since they are all strict about their quality of games.

This is like the 3rd or 4th badly optimized AAA game released in 1-2 months, quality for these is going down the shitter even after the price increases. Maybe it's a conspiracy, get 70-80 euros and then run with the money.

I literally spent 2 hours in game building shaders (twice) and I still can't play due to controller issues.
So yes it's a mess.
It will get patched though. Performance issues seem to be due to a bad library version so it's going to be patched quickly no doubt.

If you don't want to wait, apparently it's a faulty DLL messing things up. Try to search on google

Thanks, I saw it on reddit last night and managed to find a previous version of the DLL in Warframe, since I was not going to download random links found on Steam and reddit for the DLL (good thing I still have space left on my SSD after the 75 Gb of LoU ;)) and it's fixed some issues.
I still can't play with my controller (it's an Xbox controller so I'm not shocked) but the mouse is not usable since it was linked to the framerate.

I'm still running it on custom graphics settings but it looks good and run smooth without turning my laptop into a toaster oven so that'll do until they patch it.

Edited: found a quick fix for the controller issues too. Thankfully the vast world of gamers is finding solutions quicker than the guys who made the port seem to be. Go figure.

I'm a bit surprised about the poor port quality. Playstation has been doing a solid job of it since they started, so to trip up on one of the best known titles is sad. Hopefully it will get fixed soon.

Given the port was done by the monkeys who did Arkham Knight, I'm not at all surprised by the quality of the port. You literally didn't have a high texture setting in the game and WB pulled a AAA game from sale shortly after release to fix the port. So, yeah, not a surprise at all.

I honestly, I dont know why they have not gave this one to the Nixxes (Who they own BTW, and Nixxes which is one of the best PC Ports developer), instead they went with Iron Galaxy, a studio that is responsible for some of the worst PC ports ever, looks like Uncharted`s awful release was not enough of a wake up call for Sony.
But now they are slashed with negative reviews, so hopefully they will ditch the Iron Galaxy Studio in future and never do business with them again, not only them but everyone in the industry should ignore Iron Galaxy.

It's not only developers' fault. It's also gamers' fault. We keep getting:

  • Games just released which are near unplayable.
  • Games still in near unplayable state which get DLCs released.
  • Games which are cut into pieces, you're given the skeleton, and you're milked to death trying to buy enough DLCs so the game has some flesh to be playable, if next point doesn't happen.
  • DLCs which break the game.
  • Updates that unbalance, break one DLC, break the game, or otherwise make things worse than before the update.
  • From spoken intentions, passing by roadmaps, to full promises never fulfilled.
  • Games abandoned in EA, or released from EA before they're really ready or the roadmap has been fulfilled.
  • Re-releases of games with minor content update which can't be upgraded from previous versions, forcing you to fully repay the price, and then some.

And we, the (majority of the) gamers, still give those devs, publishers, companies, the money, and keep buying things in a crappy state, preorder for exclusive bonuses that will end not being exclusive, etc. I include myself because I've had to repay a game I already have so I could have the whole content, since there was no upgrade to be bought.

So a really very expected game released as crap? No surprise, sorry. Let's see if it becomes a decent game before the last patch, if ever.

You're right. We do not exercize what little power we have as consumers.
Most people think "if I boycott these guys, what does it matter since there will be millions of others who don't" and ofc they're right but nothing changes.

Not just true about games.

Pre-ordering is the main problem. If people would wait and only buy games after they checked reviews publishers would have to adapt. Just wait and don't throw money at nothing seems to be too much to ask for these days.

Heh when I saw that you "only" had 2 hours of gameplay and "already" unlocked an achievement, I figured you were one of the lucky ones.
2 hours is what it took me to build the shaders (twice) but it's running great now with a little help from the gamers who went and looked for solutions instead of whining on every social platform they could think of.

yeah I read some horror stories. I am glad it runs fine for me, but kinda feel bad for the people that have all the problems. They probably looked forward to being able to play and I can understand how sth like this can frustrate people, but yeah instead of complaining looking for solutions would have probably been the better option. But on the other hand it shouldn't be our task to fix the game shrug

Indeed. You would think that after two disastrous releases, they would have given this one to someone else to port.
I played Spider-man in December and the port was fantastic and apparently it was right from release.
Oh well, growing pains, I guess. At least I finally get to play it.

There are easy fixes out there. Worked 100% for me. Had to rebuild the shaders (3rd time!) but it took only about 15 mn this time instead of over an hour, which was a sure sign of improvement already.
Now playing and the performance issues seem gone.

I must have gotten extremely lucky with performance judging by those reviews. Shader compilation took about 30mins and have played for another almost 7hrs on top of that with 0 issues. I'm so glad I get to have a good experience but feel really bad for those who don't. Didn't have to do any fixes or anything.
I hope they can patch the issues others are having quickly, sad that such a good game has been tainted by a bad PC release.

Shaders building took over an hour the first time for me but I wasn't getting any of the performance issues everyone else was encountering.
No massive FPS drop, no crash, nothing weird with graphics.
My CPU was maxed out and running hot though but that seems to have been fixed by a DLL swap.

Now I'm playing without a problem and running high settings on my mid range laptop without issues. It really is a beautiful game

Out of curiosity, do you have an nvidia GPU and latest drivers? I actually have month old drivers, so was shocked it works fine, and now am too afraid to update drivers in case it decides to stop working lol.
Hope you continue to not have issues, and are able to enjoy the game too!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I updated my drivers after I first ran the game, hoping it would fix the issues but it didn't help. Certainly didn't make it worse though and now I have the game running with the latest NVIDIA drivers installed so you should be fine.
A warning though: after you update, you will have to rebuild the damn shaders so if the game works as is, you should probably wait until they have patched it to update your drivers

No official fix yet but a quick DLL swap to a previous version has solved the issues I was encountering.
Apparently most people who were experiencing crashes and massive FPS drops report that the DLL swap fixed it so I think a patch will happen soon

Is "building shaders" a common thing with games that I just missed somehow? I've been a PC gamer since maybe 1997 or so, and I've never heard that phrase until now.

Right? Everyone in this thread here is using it as if it was the most common thing, and just as you I've never come across any game before that required doing that.

That's because most games do it on the fly as it uses the shaders. So you probably haven't noticed (nor should it be noticeable) but for reasons passing understanding, some games do it all in one go and with this one game it took forever.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I am not an expert, but does that require much VRAM to maintain those shaders?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Depends on the game I guess. This one still is not the best optimized so it uses all my VRAM on high settings.
Until they patch it proper, I'll be using custom settings.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think it's pretty much every recent game but I believe games tend to do that on the fly so you won't hear too much about it.
With some games, like TLoU (and from recent memory Uncharted), the shaders are compiled before the game runs for the first time (supposedly to avoid stutters later) and cached. Maybe it's a port thing I dunno.
And obviously it's not supposed to take over an hour so it's been talked a lot for this one game.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I hear last of us takes 10 hours for shader Compilation.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It really doesn't. I have a mid-range laptop that's about 2 years old and at the longest, without any tweaks it took 70 mn.
The most I read was 90 mn for people with older machines.
Don't get me wrong, it's not cool to have to wait even an hour before launching a game but after swapping the DLL that seems to be an issue, shaders recompiled in less than 20 mn for me.

Permalink

Looks like the stuttering is caused by your GPU not having enough VRAM. You'll have to turn down your graphics settings if you're having issues.
