We have 8 cats now - we picked up another last week. Apparently he chose us so we had to accept him.
Our goat died last night.
My mother-in-law found her 3 months ago on the side of the road. She had just been born.
She'd been hard to keep alive, apparently she hadn't had a good beginning to start with. We'd taken shifts for feedings and such and the vet said she looked good but a bit small. We finally let her out in the yard and for a few days she was fine. Then she behaved a bit off yesterday arvo, real quiet like, so we said we'd get her to the vet this morning for a check up, but she didn't make it that long :/
We live out in the bush and we have a lot of trucks park on the roads nearby for layovers, and sometimes livestock gives birth to the outside of the trucks - this year there were about 6 goats we know of. Last year our neighbours found a few sheep.
I wouldn't mind so much but any strays we find, cats, dogs, birds, goats, sheep all seem to end up moving in.
And no... I'm not allowed to eat them.

It's hard to find the words when something like this comes up. Since english isn't my native language, it took me even longer to write this up.
First (and obviously), sorry for your loss. Probably it'll be really hard to carry on these days, but what you really need to realize is that even if he's gone, he lived a happy life because of you and THAT is all that matters.
It's impossible to hold the sadness you must feel, but remember he wouldn't want you to be sad. Instead, cherish all the good and happy moments you lived with him :)

/sadface.
Looks like a very sweet kitty. I miss my cat, too. I was her favorite, and she was mine. :)

Sorry to hear that.
I'm 40 now and still missing the cat I had when I was 14 or 15, so I know what you are talking about.

Should they die naturally, they are usually cremated (vets inject them lethal syringe and their bodies are tranferred for cremation). I can also imagine some people may ditch 'em in trash containers but that ain't our case. We have dug him a grave in our farm-land.

It's illegal in my country to bury them (well, you have to follow strict regulations regarding hygiene issues - impossible in a city, can be hard in the country).
I had mine cremated. You even have a choice of either a group cremation or single pet service (more expensive, obviously), for the urn containing the ashes.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss and I offer you my sincere condolences. I had a cat that lived for nearly 15 years, Minou, until she died. The very sad thing with pets is that they only live a fraction of the life of their human companions under normal circumstances and if they live longer than their human companions then they have an uncertain future.

Feel sorry for your loss:(We have also have 2 cats living with us for 2 years (they are bro and sis and their mother was used to with us but things didnt go well both between kittens and house in general and she gone and never come back again) and i feel so emotionally attached to them that sometimes i think they will die someday and i will never buy another cat again cuz it will hurt me again in the end.Think about the fun you had together and the moment you shared and enjoyed together im pretty sure she enjoyed it till it lasted:)Stay strong!

With all these birthday topics around full of joy and happiness, the great misery befell me and my family.
My poor cat died recently and hereby I declare the rest of this month as June of Sadness.
Our family always loved both cats and dogs but this cat was special to me - he was MINE.
I have chosen him out of the pack of young kittens, raised him, fed him, played with him and he returned his love to me with the most precious thing any animal can offer - his trust.
He came to me every night to sleep with me while purring all the time to bring me to sleep, he did me company and was my valuable friend in times of my loneliness.
Rest in Peace, my friend.
Days of Sorrow:
Day 1: Every man has his secret sorrows which the world knows not; and often times we call a man cold when he is only sad. (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)Day 2: What you must understand about me is that I’m a deeply unhappy person. (John Green)Day 3: Any fool can be happy. It takes a man with real heart to make beauty out of the stuff that makes us weep. (Clive Barker)
