Don't even bother checking this headset - the phones are a plain crap and the microphone is very faulty in this model. I know it from my own experience and my friends' too. If you really need to go cheap buy Sennheiser HD 201 and Zalman ZM-MIC1. Choose HD 201 over HD 202, trust me, they are slightly better.

I got a really bad headset from a store called "5 below." The actual headphones sucked but the mic worked significantly better than my built in mic. If you are fine with whatever headphones you use just try finding a cheep mic like that.

SteelSeries Siberia V2 - £72
Corsair Vengeance 1500 - £72
Razer Carcharias - £65
Turtle Beach X12 - £35 (Xbox 360 Compatible)

I realise a couple of those are nearer the £70 mark than the £60, but it was a little difficult to find good quality headsets below £60, hopefully this gives you some idea though.

I spent a while looking for a gaming headset but the general vibe I got online is that you might as well get a decent pair of headphones and a separate mic. The quality of headphones will be better for less money. I don't know I'm no expert. Good luck!

Yeah this works too and I know a few people who do this. I think some people just opt against it simply because it's a little more hassle and more wires and such.

i'd considered this, but as the post from Dvalkass says, it's a lot of hassle connecting all the wires and changing the mic inputs for everything. I'd just like a purpose built one. thank you though

For headsets marketed towards gamers, the ASUS Vulcan ROG is the best wired headset you can get. Best wireless is the Logitech G930

You will find that even cheaper Sennheiser headphones will sound better, but you will need a separate mic.

I spent MANY hours (must have been at least 20 hours+) a few months ago reading lots of reviews and forum posts. I ended up with some Audio-Technica ATH M50's

thank you for the advice. and i have checked those out. But for me personally, the Audio-technica isn't the way. i want the headset with a built in mic. thank you though :)

Thanks for the advice

Well i've got a Turtle Beach Z2 Headset, which I find very good, and which costs about 70$ (though i'm sure you can get it on UK amazon to avoid paying large shipping prices)

-EDIT-

I had a quick look, and I found them for £50 on Amazon.co.uk. As for the bad reviews it has, I completely disagree with them (at least for the product I got). I've had them since last Christmas, and I've never had the slightest problem with them, and they feel anything but "cheap", they feel comfortable and professional :)

Do you really need the integrated mic?

I had a few gaming headsets and my opinion is that quality-wise they are WAY overpriced, nowadays I just use my sennheiser 415(not expensive but nice and incredibly comfortable) and a webcam for mic. Only times I use the old gaming headsets are in lan parties, but not everyone goes to those so...

The only thing I miss is 5.1(actual 5.1, not emulated surround, my sound card can do that with any 2.0 headphones) but then again my 5.1 headphones were HEAVY and sounded like shit for music/movies compared with the sennheiser.

i would prefer integrated. I don't want to buy a webcam for it's mic attachment, and if i have to go and buy a separate mic, i may as well buy them together for that little bit more.

Thanks thuogh

I think you're not really understanding what anyone is saying with regards to a separate mic and headphones. You can get a 10 buck quality mic, pair it with a 25-75£ pair of good headphones (avoid anything branded for gaming) and you will have about double the quality of a headset that you'd pay 100 bucks for. And anything labeled 5.1 or 7.1 is gonna be 3 or 4 crap speakers shoved into a headset, instead of 1 quality one.

amazon.co.uk/dp/B00029MTMQ £8.50 clip on mic. recommended by everyone I've talked to about mics
amazon.co.uk/dp/B003LPTAZ2 £36 sennheiser HD205, just about the best headphones you can get in that price, if you are on a really low budget. You can move on up the Sennheiser HD line and get better and better quality, for more and more money.

Unless you don't give a damn about audio quality inbound or out, then get whatever overpriced headset you think looks coolest.

There is a reason these gimmicks exist and that's because some people buy into them.

If he's convinced that a "5.1 surround sound GAMING HEADSET" is what he needs, then let him waste his money.

You made almost the exact same recommendation except I had said HD202 or HD515 depending on his budget. Personally I'd say HD555 and remove the foam so they're open like the HD595, but that'd be more expensive than of the headsets he linked.

None, get a decent set of headphones that fit your budget and get a ZM-MIC to go along with it.

You're buying into a gimmick when you get "gaming headset", the companies are not reputable in headphones or microphones, so why would their combined units be any good? ZM-MIC is an amazing clip on microphone that you can use with any headphone and match it with a pair of Sennheiser HD515 or HD202 depending your budget.

I assure you, this will deliver better sound quality for games, music and movies as well as clear and crisp microphone. You may be missing out on some "5.1 surround sound" or some other gimmick, but the quality should be what matters.

dont go with razer headsets, i own a razer megalodon and it is too damn sensitive even if i set it to the lowest amount, it makes talking to others annoying because they can hear the tiniest sound in the background

I did a lot of headset research before I got my Corsair HS1. Then I had issues w/ the cord tangling onto itself so bad that I had to get another headset. I picked up the Creative Tactic 3D Omega wireless somethin headset. Expensive and not worth it. It broke after 6 months and they wouldn't RMA it, but did anyway because I don't know. Anyway, if I were to get one now, it'd be the Corsair Vengeance 1500 or 2000.
