You can change that, it's a new feature that has just been implemented. Too lazy to look up the discussion for you, try searching for "referral" if you want any details.
Anyways, if you're not okay with SG using a referral link you can switch it off. Go to your account page (click on the bar that shows your points and your level). On the left hand side there's a menue including a link "referrals". There you can change your settings for this feature and turn it off if you don't like it.
