So you didn't even get to the earthbending scene? At least six earthbenders do a complex 30 second dance to make a stone the size of a soccer ball rise 4 feet and slowly glide towards the firebenders.

Does that mean each earthbender can lift one pebble without a dance?

Well, a nonbender five year old can do that too.

Ghostbusters (2016) - My wife and myself decided after 15 minutes of watching that there's no reason to continue watching. Maybe not the worst movie ever made, but in my opinion the worst movie in a franchise ever made.

The Mummy with Tom Cruise gets a close second and we finished watching that one.

I liked the new Ghostbusters, to be honest, but only because I didn't expect much from it. The old movies are kinda put on a pedestal because many of us watched and loved them as children. Watching them as an adult, they're incredibly stupid, especially the second one. And while they do still hold a place in my heart, I feel that Ghostbusters II was the worst in the franchise.

Comment has been collapsed.

Ghostbusters II is not great and they pretty much re-did the first movie with a few changes. I watched both movies a few years ago and they still work as well as they did in the 80s in my opinion. I recently watched Coming 2 America and think that it wasn't great or even good, but it did throw in a couple of scenes worth watching. There are a lot of 'sequels' or 'reboots' that happen decades after the original movie and while most of them aren't spectacular they try to deliver a bit of what made the 'original' interesting. I'm not sure what made you feel that Ghostbusters II is stupid, but for me Ghostbusters (2016) was just painful to watch. The scenes seemed to appear in a random order and the characters were extremely cringey. I also didn't expect much, but I have rarely felt like not even watching half of a movie to see if it gets any better. Heck, I even finished The Mummy (2017)...

Oh, I meant, all three movies are stupid. I didn't necessarily mean that in a bad way. They are just low brow entertainment, the type of thing I would watch when I don't feel like watching something intelligent. You know what I mean? They're dumb movies and meant to be dumb.

I just felt that Ghostbusters (1984) was the best of the lot. Ghostbusters (2016) was a second, while not as good as the first, and Ghostbusters II was terrible. I know personal taste comes into it as well. But once people get past the fact that the main characters are women this time, and treat it as a story in it's own right, it's really not that bad. lol.

I haven't seen The Mummy 2017, so can't judge that one. =)

I have seen some baaaaad films in my time. M Night Shyamalan's The Village being one of them. I watched it in the cinema and saw the ending coming about 15 minutes into the film. And maybe he overdid the twist thing because The Sixth Sense was brilliant. The Village was supposed to have a massive twist at the end, but they didn't credit the viewer with enough intelligence to get it later on. Too many clues were given from the outset. I was bitter about that one because I paid to see it. XD.

I didn't mind that the main characters were women at all, just the humour was terrible in my opinion. For me it also didn't feel like a proper story, but rather like there were scenes that lined up. I give it credit for the effects. Like you said to each their own.

You don't like the second movie, I find it quite fun to watch. I think the reboot is terrible, you seem to like it. Let's see what we think about Afterlife ;)

P.S. : I didn't mind The Village either :D I did see it coming, but I quite liked the setting.

I wouldn't have classed any of the Ghostbusters movies as being humourous. Haha! I dunno, they might pull a few wise cracks here and there, but I've always regarded it as silly fun, not actually funny. It might just be a difference in sense of humour though. =)

Comment has been collapsed.

If you didn't watch Ghostbusters for the humour though... may I ask what aspect of the movie you enjoyed? I get that the effects were quite cool, but let's be honest: None of them are really made for the high brow crowd. I'm always interested in why people like movies especially for what reasons. For me Aykroyd and Murray stand for the golden age of SNL, so there's that. Plus Murray just takes the cake for playing Wankman... I mean Venkman. I think I see your point ;)

When I was a child, my parents had a box of kids movies for us to keep us quiet when cousins were visiting. Ghostbusters was in there and so it was one of a number of movies that got basically watched to death. lol. As a child, I thought the Ghostbusters were so awesome. What kid doesn't like stuff like that? lol.

As for the 2016 one, I watched it purely for nostalgia. In fact, some friends and I went to the cinema to see it. When you're not expecting some high brow intelligent film to begin with, there's no possibility for disappointment. All of my group found it enjoyable. No one came out saying "OMG, that was awesome." It wasn't awesome, it was entertaining.

It's a cultural thing with the humour though, I think. I mean, most American romantic comedies don't make me laugh. Normally, they're kinda silly, and I watch them because there's a feel good aspect to them. Just some happy-silly entertainment for an hour or two. =)

But once people get past the fact that the main characters are women this time

But that was the worst thing about it. Not that they're women, but how that was the main selling point of the movie during promos and pre-release interviews. Call me crazy, but I need to have something more. Something like a good story and likable characters. This movie had none of it. The character of Leslie Jones was downright offensive (I'm a black woman that yells and points out how black I am).

Also, compared to all the other movies, they haven't managed to catch even one ghost........

Comment has been collapsed.

I totally agree; I went to see it, having no real interest beforehand and expected a bunch of mom jokes for 2 hours, and only went because of the group that was going to see it. It turned out a lot better than I'd thought it would, and they even spent some time busting ghosts. It was pretty mindless, sure, and all of the jokes landed (some flat on their faces), but I thought it was a solid turn off your brain and enjoy movie. I'm also of the opinion that the only reason people even remember the Ghostbusters movies from the '80s is nostalgia; I thought the pink slime from the second movie was cool, but other than that, it's 2 hours of Bill Murray making dick jokes.

Skipping ahead in the comments a bit, yes, M Night Shyamalan's The Village was terrible. You took a weird, exciting movie and threw in a plot twist that made it boring; that's the exact opposite of what a plot twist is supposed to do.

I know right? The Village would have been a pretty good film had they just let the audience in on it from the beginning. Pull us into it, but keep the villagers in the dark. It's the whole trying to be clever, but not actually being clever, that ruined that movie.

Bait 3D. It's not often I can just turn off a movie without caring about seeing the ending but that one was easy. Some crap about an Australian supermarket that somehow got flooded and infested with sharks. Some badly acted characters with such convoluted and pointless drama between them that you were rooting for the sharks were trapped in there as well I guess. I drew the line when a character was sent into the water in armour made out of shopping baskets to throw a switch and electrocute the sharks and drowned because a hose came out of his mouth.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one with that experience. Not really being a movie person, I expected it to be maybe a kids movie with a bit of adult humor to go over the kids heads but it was way too direct and distasteful. Serenity was the last episode of a canceled series (Firefly), and altogether it was fantastic. I can totally see walking into that one blind and thinking it was stitched-together sci-fi schlock.

Equilibrium was practice for making Ultraviolet (2006), which is good if you want a stylized pure guns & martial arts action movie.

I have a spreadsheet where I rate movies, 1-5 though. I have 3 rated 1: "Somos Tão Jovens" (brazilian), The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, and Killers Anonymous.
Man, the last one was so disapointing. I mean, there's Gary Oldman in a movie with a very cool premise (like AA but for killers). But it was really boring, had to try 4 times cause I kept sleeping, awful movie.

From your list, I know I watched a long time ago but FF Tokyo Drift brings nice memories to me. My spreadsheet didn't exist at the time, but if I should rate right now would be probably a 4.

And I know a lot of Transformers movies are bad, but I like action and I never managed to rate them below 2, something always stopped me.

It's actually a pretty impressive movie when you go with how little thought they put in the script. At one point in the movie, Steve steals a jet plane from a museum and somehow it has fuel. Why would a plane that's in a museum come with fuel? Also, the last time he piloted anything was a propeller plane during WW1 so how can he magically adapt to fly a jet in mere seconds? And let's not forget that part when Diana and he are in Egypt looking for that villain and he just happens to be driving through the same street as them. That one long street. In all of Egypt. That's a lottery-winning stroke of luck right there.
