I'm new around here and have thought it's a fun community so far, it's given me something to concentrate on other than my recent depression and unemployment and lets me sit here and talk about games as much as I want. <3 Me and the hubby have been stuck on games again. Well in reality it's me bombarding him with games while he treats the mobile match-3 addiction I afflicted him with. :3 I went to my stats and realized I like RPGs as much as I say. I always say they're my favorite but I didn't realize by that big of a margin, around 56% total between just RPGs & Indie Games. Yay charts!

I won my first game the other day, Wasted, I randomly entered it because it sounded like what you would get if you threw a dungeon crawler at Fallout and kept what stuck. The graphics weren't a style I liked initially but I was determined to make a pretty one to play with. I spent 10 minutes in character creation carefully picking each part and showing Tyler excitedly. Once I was satisfied with my doe eyed, pink haired lady I started playing and died in less than 5 minutes. A couple seconds later I was a bald man with a mustache. xD As a person who tends to gravitate towards RPGs and Strategy games preferring the thought that goes into playing I about had a heart attack at the fast pace of the game. It drops you in and you gotta get moving, less than 5 minutes later a juggernaut with a minigun is just blazing through the level to murder you. I like it though, it's fun, it's quick (my attention span is shot right now games like this and Master Spy are pulling me through cheering me up here and there with a quick 5 minute level), and the art style grows on you. I disliked it at first but now the oversized heads, bright colors, and awesome item designs make me smile. It surprised me, both by winning a game for free, and by loving it despite it being out of my usual genres. (albeit only slightly)

I love video games, they were always there for me growing up. When I was sad or lonely I could play Harvest Moon and interact with a town of people or sneak around Morrowind as a mighty assassin. I'd love to hear about games favorites from childhood, new recommendations, a review of the last game you won. If you have a game to praise (or complain about) feel free to comment.

I was going to do a train but I decided to focus more on our favorite genres and sorted them out that way. If anyone has tips on formatting for the site or how to make trains work efficiently I'd appreciate it greatly! :)

Hmm, very difficult indeed...might it be...Rrrrrrr....Rrrrrr......Racing games? :D

Welcome! Glad the gaming is helping you focus not too much on real life problems, but don't get too caught up, still gotta live in the real world too :)
First win, hooray! And playing it, very good :)

Trains, hmm, I think there is a thing called ESGST, that semi-automates train making, but I've never tried it, do a search :)
My fav childhood game? Goonies on NES, and Zelda 1 and 2 on NES, a bit of a love/hate relationship those.
Complain? Always, it's what my people do...

ESGST awesome, thank you I will definitely search around for it next time I have some games to throw around for the community! :)

Goonies on NES sounds like a blast, I have played very few games from that era/system sadly. I have played the Zelda ones though albeit on a laptop not an NES. All Zelda games are love/hate to me xD I always have to backtrack for forever but they are fun games that builds on itself as you play through. :)

Am i one of your people then? xD That's me to a T.

I've always been a huge fan of RPG's, used to play WoW with my father and my brother when I was a kid and i guess the love for the genre stayed. My favorites games are lore-heavy, kinda open world RPG's like Divinity Original Sin 2 (and the first one also) or any Dragon Age.
I'm also a huge puzzle games fan (like The Talos Principle or Portal). I play a lot of roguelikes (I'm addicted to Slay The Spire these times) and turned based strategy games are my jam (like X-COM 2 or Into The Breach).

I played WOW a lot when I was younger as well, learned after a year or two of subscribing off and on that MMOs aren't my prefferred game style. Haven't played many at all after that revelation. DIVINITY IS MY FAVORITE SERIES EVER. <3 I got Divinity Original Sin in Early Access, reported a few bugs, loved it played through 95% of the game before losing my save files for all my games in the great computer crash of 2016. :( At some point I bought nearly all of the old ones (minus the one where you're a dragon commander or whatever) and loved them, so much to do, so much detail and effort in the dialogue options, very reminiscent of Baulder's Gate 1 and 2. I love Larian Studios now, have been too poor to buy Divinity Original Sin 2 (wanted to preorder but no monies :( ) and the one time I could have I wasn't 100% sure it would run on my current computer well. I am dying to play it. And my second favorite series...Dragon Age. I have never met anyone who mentioned both together because I always throw those two and the King's Bounty games into any RPG convo! xD I am super excited to meet someone with such similar gaming tastes for once!

I've always thought puzzle games looked fun but even Zelda games get me running to a walkthrough after being stuck on the same puzzle for hours at a time. -_- But again Rougelikes (Will check out, currently playing Don't Starve Together as I traded Warhammer extra copy and Story about my Uncle for it. So hyped. Siralim scratches my Pokemon itch, Rouge Legacy is the first Platformer I really got into now I'm slowly breaking into the genre. And Darkest Dungeon would fit you like crazy from what I can tell if you haven't played it yet!) for and turn-based strategy are (xcom rocks and been dying to play Into the Breach as FTL is one of the few games I play consistently and it reminds me of my childhood playing Advanced Wars.)

Awesome!
Divinity Original Sin 2 isn't really heavy on the graphics so it should run fine on most computers (unless you have an actual potato as a computer :P), buying the game really is worth, I've played it for over 100 hours with my brother to finish it and I enjoyed every hour, the writing is excellent (as in all of their games really) and the combat is even more interesting than in the first one!
I did indeed play Darkest Dungeon, it interested me for a while but I got fed up after 40 hours, I think the game is too unfair to the player (kinda like the Dark Souls games) so I uninstalled it. If you want a good roguelike you can try The Binding Of Isaac, I've played it for 300 hours and still play it now and then.
Into the Breach is pretty good, but don't expect it to be like FTL, it is not as Roguelike-esque as I hoped it to be, but still very fun and worth playing a lot!

I want to buy it full price and then some. Larian is one of my favorite Developers. I just haven't been able to afford to in a long time! I'm sure the second I can I will buy it though at any price.
I could see that it definitely is punishing if you don't both heavily strategize AND get lucky both. I've definitely considered buying Binding of Isaac, hopefully your rec. will push me to it finally. It looks like a blast.
No I know it won't be I got much more of Advanced Wars for grown ups feel. The graphics and atmosphere definitely have a similar feel to FTL though and I trust the devs entirely to nail it.

Same on the Racing, I don't enjoy them. But games I liked fall all over the spectrum, as well as games I am interested in playing often are outside of my normal genres of RPG, Strategy, or Simulation. As such I worry i won't enjoy them and rarely buy! I need to branch out more.

Stardew Valley is amazing. I was so excited to hear about it and bought it the second I could I lost a week in it from what I remember when I was on a break. And then again when my brother died...I kinda hid there in the game that was a fun take on what I spent 95% of my childhood playing. It was fun, adorable graphically, and took me back to a time when we were kiddos bickering about who got to play the Gameboy Advance.

I feel you. It's a very enjoyable and relaxing game, I've played it last time I had to do chemotherapy and it really helped me pass through the days I felt worse. I hope the new patch comes out before my next treatment 🤞.

I grew up playing shooters such as Doom, Duke Nukem, Blood and Shadow Warrior and JRPG's like Digimon World and Breath of Fire series so I love shooters and JRPG's but nobody makes them as good as they used to be anymore. Developers tend to focus on graphics and neglect gunplay/gameplay, level design and what I really loved in older games; secret areas that reward exploration.

Totally check them out when I can actually post them for y'all. I agree on Shooters and JRPGs both being stilted lately both in the AAA games and indie title (rpg maker mostly) every once in awhile you can find a gem but the majority add nothing original or exciting to make the player care. THANK YOU! Graphics are not the main thing games should depend on, heck even the overall aesthetic/atmosphere is more important than actual graphic quality. If it doesn't seem cohesive or envoke whatever the developer is going for then your beautiful graphics are going to waste in my opinion. I want a world that is fleshed out, or character development, or an engaging story, interesting games mechanics, literally anything that makes the experience much richer than graphic quality in my opinion. And as an avid explorer literally combing over every section of an adventure game heck yes on the old games being more rewarding for that type of gameplay!

I remember in a lot of older JRPG's you could interact with almost every cup, box, drawer (and similar furniture), etc. and you'd either find something inside or get a message saying they're empty or there's nothing of interest inside of them. So I would run around and click action button on everything just to see will I get items or some kind of text message for trying to interact with objects in the game.

I get very disappointed in todays RPG's lack of interaction with majority of the objects in the game.

What I want from my RPG is an interesting world, amusing and/or interesting dialogues/monolugues with/from NPCs, a good amount of interaction with various objects found in the game and rewarding exploration.

I remember spending a hour checking the whole tutorial town and every single object leaving with maybe 500 gold and a potion to show for it. But I got to read some cute little pop-ups that gave it charm like, "You found socks, you don't need those for this adventure!" "Why are you looking in this dude's dresser" Just fun little interactive features.

Not a JRPG but Divinity Original Sin is completely interactable and destructible as in I can throw poison on enemy, use magic to set the poison on fire, and use magic to rain and put out the fire before anyone on my team can be affected by the fire.

And a not old necessarily but fun JRPG with effort put in is the Aveyone series. I found them on Big Fish games as a kiddo and still love them today. Have bought the ones I can on steam! You might check them out. Wishing so badly I had bought a second bundle when it was on sale to gift you directly :(

I assume you mean Aveyond? I remember those games getting a lot of praise before and some people saying that they're among the best RPG's made in RPGMaker engine. They were bundled a couple years back, but I didn't have credit card or money back then. If they get bundled again someday I might pick them up.

I have Divinity Original Sin Enhanced Edition on my wishlist, going to pick it up on sale one day, probably after I get a job if it doesn't get a huge discount before that (and I assume it won't considering how well received the game is).

Yes I meant Aveyond. I definitely recommend even if it's just nostalgia it is among the best rpg maker games I've ever played. I would mark it on is there any deal and wait, or just buy it from aveyond.com & if you hate it they have a 60 day money back guarantee! :)

I think it would be a great purchase. I played over 140 hours online, more offline, and I know I'll play it again someday with different character classes/strategies. <3

What I also like to this day are the military flight sims of Dynamix, Microprose, Digital Integration, LucasArts, Spectrum Holobyte, Novalogic, Janes Combat Simulations, Origin,... And also the MechWarrior and Earthsiege games.

I made a mistake on the FPS giveaway and went to delete it and update with a new giveaway, invite only so you guys have better odds. BUT I didn't think about not having a new slot to make a giveaway until the delete ticket is approved and reviewed...soooo I am really sorry. I will make a new Rise of the Triad giveaway that is invite-only. Also being new I didn't realize the thread disappears altogether saying it was deleted. I was hoping to post the correct link in the comments there because editing your post here seems impossible to me. I'm failing pretty hard here but I will post INVITE ONLY links (will triple check) to Shooter games: Rise of the Triad, Still Not Dead, Postal, Postal 2, & Postal Redux to make up for the mistake, So I you like shooters look out for those links or comment here and I can reply to your comment with them. You welcome! :)

Well, besides reading FAQ and Guidelines - just visit forums for varies activities and giveaways and enjoy yourself! Also there are a lot of interesting steamgifts groups you can join for better odds and lovely communities, such as Unlucky7 for people that have won 7 or less games and Playing Appreciated for people who actually play the games they win, and not just collect or idle for cards.

Also - in case your husband is registered on steamgifts too you should create a ticket (support - other) and explain the situation right away, since it's not allowed to have more than one account from the same IP address.

If you have any questions - feel free to ask anytime! :)

I actually joined the Unlucky7 pretty quickly as I had given away enough games by day 2 or 3 and as I have way too much free time currently I kinda browse for giveaways for games I'll play all day and enter. (or play them/look at trade forum) I won my 3rd this morning and was insanely shocked, I never win anything. But honestly as the majority of giveaways I entered had under 200 entries so my odds were pretty good. :) I appreciate the games, love the first one. Have plans to boot up and play the second coop with hubby, and the third is downloading right now and looks like a blast! :D So I might consider trying to joining Playing Appreciated at some point. I try to not enter games I would never play, and leave them for people who would.

Thank you so much. I'll double check he doesn't have one! :)

Three wins in two weeks? You up for a good start, keep it up! :) I've played 80 days, very fun game intended for multiple playthroughs. It's fun to play with someone too - choosing the routs together, or making choices in turn.

That's okay if he is, and you can invite him if he isn't, just notify the support team. There are a lot of families, couples, friends and roommates here, so it's fine, and making the ticket is needed just to avoid any possible misunderstandings in the future.

Not your typical walking sim as it also has some platforming, Valley. For some reason I had so much fun with this one. Don't tell anyone but I spent 20 minutes just hopping around because the great, gigantic jumps with your special suit felt sooooo real and entertaining lol.

Cheers for the giveaways which deserves a bump for sure.

I personally love RPGs more than any other genre. Must have sunk thousands of hours in game series like Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Baldur's gate, Diablo, as well as MMORPGs like World of Warcraft.

On a separate genre not on your list, I would add sports as well like Pro Evo soccer, Tiger woods golf, Sensible world of soccer, NBA Jam which was fun especially co-op modes.

Too many genres to pick from as well as turn based strategy , FPS etc could go on and on but would want to bore you with it all.

Thank you for the bump and since you mentioned liking shooters I put up the link for those 5 shooter giveaways I added.

All great franchises, except Diablo. I can't say as I never played it, only diablo-esque games that were a blast so I can only assume it's great too!

If you want any of those sport games that are flooding the giveaways right now I might have a key I could send. I'm not into sports games really.

I love multiple genres too, games that border two types really interest me. Oh feel free, I love talking games, I'm just dis tractable and slow to reply at times.
