I remember playing this and getting pretty freaked out by it. Definitely going to put it on my wishlist. Thanks for the heads up!

Same here! 😁 This one terrified me right from the start! Although, I was pretty adamant on keeping the room completely dark while playing 🤣

Skipped the most popular and important Silent Hill games. Maybe something special is coming up.

The Room was the last good game in the series. Once the franchise was made by western companies, it went downhill. Let's hope for the rest in some form, on PC

This is great news, but I'd also pay some good money for the first 3 Silent Hill games if they came out on GOG...

As far as I know SH1 was a console exclusive — Konami won't bother with porting it. SH2 were on PC though, so, chances are pretty high.

I'm confused. I played SH1 on PC somewhere in early 00's (I'm sure it was PC, I've never owned any consoles). Could it be an unofficial port? Or maybe I haven't actually played it? Weird.

Maybe you used emulator? It was released only for PS1. Emulated version also avaliable for purchase on PS3, PSP and PSV through PSN.

I doubt I even knew what an emulator was back then. Most likely some nice pirates assembled a convenient installer, and I just bought it as is (the whole concept of paying pirates feels so weird today, but many years ago it was pretty much a norm here).

Yeah, the one and only shop with videogames in my town was a pirate shop. I didn't even knew it wasn't legal shop back then:)

I have a few silent hill 1 files archived in my mods folder:
Silent_hill_extractor.zip (multiple tools)
SILENT HILL-MAP PICS.zip
Silent Hill v1.1 Patch.exe
Silent Hill v1_1 Patch(unpacked).rar
Pretty sure the patch was for configuring Graphic settings in the PS1 version ,not sure though

Then there's this (might be for Homecoming though ):
Unknownproject’s Lair. _ Reverse engineering stuff:
https://unknownproject.github.io
Looks like he just released a new patch for Homecoming in the comments (Patch2.5_PreRelease):

Can't remember what a lot of this stuff was for ,haven't played Silent Hill in ages.

MGS1-2 and SH4 costs less than this month's Humble Choice, at least in my region. So, it was insta buy.

I love the game too but I somewhat agree, also it's a really bad idea to start the franchise with the 4th one if you haven't played the previous 3 games.

Read that a remake/remaster might be coming. SH2 was for me the scariest game I ever played, would love to revisit the series some day.

Interestingly enough it seems I can buy this game but can't even access the MGS collection. Konami had always made their games region locked for SEA so I wonder why not this one. No complaining if that means I can get the other older games too if they come to GOG. Been meaning to try the franchise again, maybe this time I won't be too much of a scaredy cat and be able to play for more than a few hours.

Go for it and enjoy the horror! :) The SH series hits all the right buttons for me - there's the sound, the atmosphere, the story, and no cheapo jumpscares.

Phahahaha great ones! Additionally, it's also an alternative for all the girls wanting to dress up as a slutty nurse for Halloween.

Silent Hill 2 already has community Enhanced Edition out there. So if they eventually put it on the market hopefully it's going to contain it but I won't be surprised if it doesn't.

Would be the first time I hear about a developer packaging an official game together with unofficial mod content.

Also don't mods usually stop working with new versions of a game and have to be updated? i.e. Skyrim

It happened a lot of times actually, an example would be System Shock: Enhanced Edition which used a community patch that already existed for a long time. GOG does it pretty regularly, they work with the community in fixing old games all the time. Here's a cool documentary by Noclip on this subject if you're interested.

Sometimes mods still work on new versions, sometimes they don't, depends on what is changed in the new version of the game. Chances are slim that Konami will release a new version of the game, it's probably going to be the old pc version with some fixes by GOG (or with the edition I mentioned). Even if they released a new version, the Enhanced Edition team is still active and they would probably update their mod too.

Interesting. I wonder if the mod team got some kind of compensation or at least a shoutout. Because in general modders do what they do for free because they love the games (or in some very rare cases for exposure) but when somebody elses uses their work commercially that's an entirely different situation I assume.

Only shoutouts most likely, most of the games officially sold with community patches included are old games that don't produce much profit anyway. I'm not a lawyer or experienced in law in any way but I think even if it's morally wrong, the people who own a particular game can sell their game legally with any community mods or patches included without compensating or even acknowledging the original creators.
