I want to start playing WOW recently, but I'm confused where to start. This would be my first MMORPG.

I have a few questions:

Question 1: What do I need to buy from a local game shop/online blizzard to start playing WOW?

Question 2: I do not want to miss out with any of the story elements, so what is the name of the first World of Warcraft that was released? (There seems to be catacalysm, burning crusade, pandaria, etc etc. Pretty confused in all this)

Question 3: Do I have to buy each and every WOW update / expansion pack to advance further in the story line?

Question 4: If I buy all updates, will I miss the story line covered in the initial updates?

Question 5: Is my blizzard account only sufficient for playing WOW?

Question 6: Except in-game time, what do I need to buy for WOW?

Question 7: Once I buy the game, game-time, expansion packs, are there skins/items like DOTA 2/LOL which I might have to buy?

Question 8: How many expansion packs, updates are there in total?

Question 9: What would be the collective price for all these? If I want to start playing WOW, how much should be my budget.

  1. Go to www.battle.net
  2. Create account there
  3. Download and install their game launcher
  4. Through game launcher you can buy the game (and almost all their recent games)
  5. If you find wow battlechest somewhere else cheaper, you can activate the key/game through the launcher
  6. Wow battlechest generaly consists of all previous expansions and vanilla, the newest expansion you goda buy separately.
  7. Here is the example of the battlechest https://www.g2a.com/world-of-warcraft-battlechest.html?___store=englishus
  8. Here is the newest expansion for wow which you goda buy as an addition to battlechest https://us.battle.net/shop/en/product/world-of-warcraft-warlords-of-draenor?utm_source=internal-shop&utm_medium=featured-thumbnail&utm_campaign=WoWx6-presales&utm_content=WoWx6
  9. Btw there are e-shops where you can buy wow expansions cheaper than on b.net shop

Thats it

Guardian: Turn away... before it's... too late.
Arthas: Still trying to protect the sword, are you?
Guardian: No... trying to protect you... from it.

Thank you everyone, I got the starter edition for now, I'll upgrade it as soon as I need to.

Welcome, GL&HF, and try to get to the Dwarf capital city of Ironforge or Orc city of Orgimmer before the event goes away on Jan 2. Can get yourself a few presents out of it. Try not to rush to much, way to many people rush to the maximum level and end up missing 90% of the game.

After playing WoW since beta, I switched over to Rift. Have to say, love it so much more. AND, it's free-to-play. Give it a try first. If you like the feel of it, then invest the money into WoW.

on the blizz store just buy WoW it should come with all of them in a row, WoW, burning crusade, wrath of lich king, cataclysm, Mists of pandaria, for 20 bucks for all, then like 40 bucks for warlords. then just buy your game time and play.

ive been playing WoW since 2006 and i have no regrets. no MMO game like it
