Looks like another game moves from Steam to Epic.
https://steamcommunity.com/app/868270/discussions/0/1849197902648131738/

Are you planning to sell the game at the Epic Games Store?
No, the game is a free2play title and will be accessible without any additional payments. All you need is an active Epic Games Store account to play our game.

Will The Cycle be on a different platform, like steam?
This might be the case in one year from now, and we leave the option open to bring The Cycle to many other platforms, not only Steam. But for now, our entire focus goes into the Epic Games Store and the game’s development.

Why are you exclusive at Epic Games Store?
There are many reasons, and it might sound a bit selfish, but in the end, it was a decision in our favor. It helps us to make a better game, simple as that!

Even though Remedy is the only developers that I'm happy that they got enough money/bribe from Epic after the fail with Microsoft,
I still wouldn't buy it and even pirate it if it's good enough.

So ya +1 from me.

Dang. Well, I guess that gives me a year to see what the reviews are like, since there is a 0% chance of me purchasing it on Epic and I will wait for it to appear on Steam.

Now why would a F2P game benefit from their smaller playerbase? ;)

Because Epic gave them a boatload of money. Don't need players if you already have the cash.

Most likely got settlement (or bribe, however you like to call it) just as others to go exclusive .. Another try from Epic to try to get new users who want to play the game.. Not necessary to buy any game but new users lining up to play The Cycle.. Just like all the free games their giving away. Just to attract users and generate traffic... eventually having some of them buying games

I think they want to get on that "85million Epic store users" lie that epic trying to sell here, (even thou those "85m" are fortnite players who even know what the fuck epic launcher is and using it as an icon to get to fortnite).

Plus of course, the huge amount of money that epic gives to them since YAGER is already a dying studio.

Fortnite is over 250 million players.

So, yes, that 85 million is very likely the actual Epic store accounts.

From your own link

"If you want an active player count, the last we heard was 78.3 million people logging in each month"

So, unless every single active fornite user is an active user of the epic store, looking or buying whatever exclusives they buy, "the 85million Epic store users" is simply the active fornite players.

How many not-only-fornite users has the store? We don't know, since Epic is not releasing that number

Good eye. As for the numbers, we will never know, as epic "most successful game" Metro didn't have numbers at all.

huge backlog + bethesda returning to steam while paradox staying on steam = enough games until 2022 or even until 2023 for me, so I don't care.

The only way I would care if they would move Mount & Blade II to epic store. No, I still wouldn't install epic spyware, I would be just sad.

"it might sound a bit selfish"

I love when the dev being honest. It's 100% greed, doesn't care about their player base so why would I care about there game?.

I mean you could earn more money or you could earn less money, you would take the 'more money' option every time... It's not greed, it's common sense. People keep blaming Epic for predatory practices towards customers, however, Steam has been practicing predatory practices towards developers for far too long. I don't really like the exclusivity appraoch that Epic is pushing, but I do understand that they probably wouldn't have a chance of competing without a trumph card. Let's wait a year or two and then see how the situation develops with the Epic store.

While what you're saying is absolutely true that more money is better than less money and 30% is a lot for steam especially for an indie developer like myself. I have to disagree with 2 points.

First: If I'm making a AAA F2P multiplayer I would absolutely choose steam over epic for its monthly 90M user than Epic 85M in its 4 months run (which is 90% of them is fortnite players since the people who download there free games that they were offered are total of 4.5M)

Secondly: Exclusivity as a trump card is bullshit, that upset more than what they gain. Their trump card can easily be their regional price.
Do you know how much cheaper their prices are in my region??!!.

Metro Exodus 20$ from 60$
Slime Rancher 15$ from 20$
hades 10$ from 20$
Subnautica 8$ from 25$
My Time At Portia 10$ from 30$

If that is not the best prices/trump card ever, I don't know what else is.

I don't think you got my word, I said STEAM over EPIC
the choices between a good, fully functional, secure launcher over spyware, barely function, nonsecure launcher

Plus origin is 10x better than epic, not spyware and didn't steal 3rd-party games, so in comparison to whom I'm choosing from epic and origin, I will definitely choose origin. :)

Some time ago Origin also was considered as a spyware because it scanned all existing drives... and it wasn't looking for games.

Predatory practices lmao. Steam saved the PC market a decade ago and helped tremendously for the boom of indie games. But revisionist history is cool. Where were all you guys before Epic whining about poor poor developers going homeless because of the 30% standard industry cut(that's apparently exclusive to the Satan Valve)

So, by doing something good around 2004-ish, they get an eternal free pass over everything, forever. Totally reasonable.
