Hmm?
Yes, it is about laziness too: I had a blacklist and a whitelist, but needed the whitelist for doing an actual GA, so users who were not supposed to enter that one were moved to the blacklist temporarily, at least that was what I thought that time, just time passed, Easter came and now I have a long blacklist and almost empty whitelist and some distant memories about who should be moved between the two...

xD now that's a problem :D Good luck. How bad were the people that were blacklisted? Maybe remove everyone from the blacklist and give those who deserved it a second chance?

I have completed a check right now, just it was a bit tedious. However as it turned out some of my BL participants got permabanned from SG, so that part was easy.
The other part is dynamic: sometimes you encounter high-level contributors with very strange profiles. Like ones whose last 100-150 GA-s from the past 1-2 years were all group restricted with a couple dozen entries, or the same thing with 7-8+ level restrictions. With all respect and admiration, I am not really willing to give them anything just for clicking on Enter from the GA list and being lucky. However if they solve a puzzle, I would consider that case different.
Checking the poll above, it is almost solely me anyway...

I see your point :P I haven't made any puzzles yet but it could be useful especially if your blacklist isn't just for people you really dislike

Then they would get a headache while trying to figure out where the OP hid the puzzle XD

I can never figure out MTLVMPR's puzzles anyway, so it wouldn't matter. :P

If the softwaresolution supports user-based-blocked-codes or something like that...this would be the best solution.
I recently tought about this solution.
Puzzlethread, link to Giveaway 1 with a small appetizer, from this link to puzzle and from this puzzle to the other giveaways.
But of course, this is special solution...not suitable for all.

Yeah, I think that could be an useful feature (not just for puzzle, could be useful for other events)
What would be also nice would be to be able to have a 2 whitelists. You could have your main whitelist, and use the second one as a temporary whitelist for an event

That works!
So i found a solution.
Just place a link to an old giveaway in your puzzlethread, blacklisted users will also get the message "your are bla bla".
So everyone has the ability to check if he/she is blacklisted without first solving any puzzles.

That's a solution for this situation, but it could still be an useful feature to have the option to disable the blacklist for a specific giveaway ^^

Yes, perrolijo has a similar construct running right now: http://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/gPrLE/lets-talk-about-anime-2-hints-added
However if you check my puzzles, like http://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/74S8a/wall-of-text-math-equations-omg-wtf, they are not exactly an ITH link.

Which conversation? I remember no conversions ever with anyone. I am new here. How do you level up? Hey, I won Bad Rats in a giveaway, can I give it to a friend? I am looking for a key to a door, would you happen to have a spare one I can use, just asking.

I like that idea too. However from implementation perspective it is probably easier to create a new GA type than extending the list management features (while the functionality is there with the existing lists and the support for arbitrary number of groups, the simple 2-button user interface for black/white-listing would have to be replaced with some droplist or radio buttons, and so on)

If you've blacklisted them then clearly they must have done something to deserve it.

I dunno :D
I got blacklisted only by some raging immature punk as far as I know. And I only know about it because he felt the necessity to boast about it in a quite funny way :D. But maybe the puzzledudes could just include their blacklist link so the potential puzzle solvers could find out if they're on the blacklist or not.

Yes, your method was discussed above http://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/r7aoo/blacklist-independent-invite-only-giveaway-type-for-puzzles#UP6dZaH. Also, SilentGuy's idea may work better than my original.
For the not entirely black and white nature of lists, see http://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/r7aoo/blacklist-independent-invite-only-giveaway-type-for-puzzles#k2E7k1V

When solving a puzzle, people normally do not start the process with checking if they are blacklisted by the puzzle creator. Then they work on the puzzle, having fun or a headache, but it certainly does not feel good if someone after solving a puzzle finds him/herself locked out from the GA.
This is why I think there could be use for a GA type which does not care about the blacklist.
