Hey everyone!

I am simply posting this here to see if anyone has experienced this really vexing problem (or something equally stupid) that I have been having

SO offline mode... love it, but hate it...

Here is the skinny

When steam is launched in offline mode (on my laptop), steam detects a grand total of 0 games within my entire library. When I realized this, I figured logging in to steam would resolve the issue, but alas it did not. When I logged on, all of my games were visible in my library tab, however when returning to offline mode there was still nothing visible.

1) I have tried re-installing the steam client and this still persists on my laptop (without removing all of my downloaded games in the steam->steamapps->common folder)

2) I have also tried deleting the clientregistry.blob file and forcing a steam update.

Both of these have done nothing and am at a loss for what the problem is (possibly something registry related?)

I have tried running steam in offline mode on my usual computer on the same network and it still detects all of my library so it is something specific to the laptop and not to any networking problems.

Soo yeah, has anyone ever even heard of something so absurd happening to anyone?
Not really hoping for a solution, and if you want to share your offline mode woes feel free :D

ps. Steam support put me to sleep waiting for 2 weeks and getting a canned response telling me to reinstall steam Something I mentioned I already did in the support ticket... tech support is the pits...

Maybe 'verify the integrity of game cache' for the games you have installed on the laptop?
Make sure all the installed games are up-to-date with the latest updates?

I hadn't thought to try that, thanks for the idea :D

EDIT: No such luck, I didn't think about it enough, even uninstalled games don't show up in offline mode, whereas they used to previously. really strange. SIGH

I've had that missing library problem before but it usually resolves itself pretty quickly when I restart Steam or go online..

Offline mode as a whole seems to have a host of problems, I always have issues with it. Recently I've had a problem where if I try to use offline mode after having not been connected to the Internet for a few hours, Steam says my credentials aren't stored on my computer and I need to go back online to log in before I can access my library. I never used to have this problem, offline mode worked fine the whole time when I was without an Internet connection for about a month..

Well that's awesome to know that someone else has had the problem, I was under the impression I was the only one. Its really weird that in my case it just never shows up even after a fresh install. (I'm beginning to suspect a steamcloud problem...)

I have seen a lot of people have the problem you are having but not in that short of a time period. For me offline mode has worked for months and years at a time (my laptop has not been online in about 2 years lol)

I think it might have something to do with a Steam client update, because like I mentioned, I never used to have that problem and then one day it just starts saying my credentials are gone.. If your laptop hasn't been online in two years, you wouldn't have updated the client between now and then, so that might be why you don't have that problem.

Maybe a dumb question, but have you tried contacting steam support? They aren't the greatest, but still. One thing you could try, as this has worked for me in the past with individual games that would not play offline, launch the game, disconnect the net, play, exit game.

I mentioned it at the end of my op in the PS. "Steam support put me to sleep waiting for 2 weeks and getting a canned response telling me to reinstall steam Something I mentioned I already did in the support ticket... tech support is the pits..."

two weeks to get a re-install steam message lol, needless to say I reopened my ticket and said that didn't work. but now I have to wait another two weeks probably...

Steam offline mode sucks. Valve should put some effort on it.

Are you by chance in the Steam beta program? If you are, disable that and retry.

This happens to me too whenever I go into offline mode on Steam, my solution is just that, rather than going into offline mode, just leave Steam online, and then when you don't have internet it will log you out of Steam community, and all your games will still be there :)

Works for me :) Though I usually know if I'm about to go offline, so I got to friends, and then go offline manually, I dunno why, I just prefer to do that :)

have you played the games on this computer? I think you have to open them at least once online right? (i think sometimes it finishes the install that way but not sure)

also to install them you need to be online, so while uninstalled games show in library online they wouldn't off :)

edit- just tested, they still show grayed out. when you click them it says "not ready to play offline"

But they did show up for two years in offline mode the uninstalled games (yes I would have had to go online to install them but I have not really used it for gaming much, I just had a few casual games in there to suck up some time.)

As far as having to play them beforehand, I don't think that's true, but it has been a long time so I could be wrong. Point being, I have already played these things in offline mode dozens of times.
