Hello and welcome to the madness!
The challenge is simple: Play and beat any 6 games, starting today, that have been featured in any given Humble Monthly/Choice bundle in one month.

The prize: It Takes Two

Game length does not matter and I'm not looking for 100% achievement runs. So long as you play and beat 6 games, I'm happy. You can go easy mode and play a bunch of 1h games or go crazy and play 6 +30h games. So long as they were in a monthly at a given point, it is all good.

Just post a comment with either screenshots/ achievements showing that you fulfilled the criteria and I'll add on Steam and give you the link. Feel free to share your thoughts on the games you've played, but it is not required.

FAQ:

Why you doing this?

I hate money. That and I realized I've been subbed to the monthly for over five years (yes it has been that long, I checked) and it occurred to me that I've barely touched the games I've gotten from it, let alone played them. Figured the same would be true for a few others, so I figured this is a good way to change that. A sensible person would probably unsub in this situation, but please refer to the beginning as to why that will not happen.

I've played the first X minutes of a game, can I pick it for the event?

No. You cannot have any play time or achievements prior to the start of the event. The only exception is idle time from farming Steam cards.

Can I play a MP only game?

No. It needs to have an "end" in order for me to count it as beaten, so it needs to have a campaign/story mode.

Why six games?

The first few monthlies had 6/7 games in them so I went with that.

How long are you going to do this?

Until my credit card statements gives me nightmares.

This event "ends" on July 6th when the next HB Choice releases, though the giveaway itself will end the next day. If you manage to finish game number six in between that time, feel free to post, but know that I cannot guarantee that I'll be able to give you the link in time.

Good luck, have fun and stay safe.
Thanks for reading, and don't forget to show your team spirit.

I only played short games because I started too late (I started Jun 20) but I managed just in time! I played this six:

Thank you very much for this! I don't think I'll ever get to finish every game I have, but I'm a little closer now. Oh, wait. Summer sale...

YES!! I have been mentally preparing to do one of these events you host! I am so down for this and will complete 6 games this month for sure! Your previous game choices have been a bit too action-oriented for my style and I always have stuff come up anyway but this is perfect timing. Iā€™ll try not wimp out with tiny games like Eliza or Frog detective either. Edit: I was WAYY overeager including Opus Magnum, Autonauts, and Wargroove originally... I got super into Forager and loved it but I feared the same thing would happen with those. Maybe not put ALL of the games I'm especially looking forward to in one month, gotta save some for next month of course!

I have no playtime on any of the following games before June 1 of this month.

Game Bundle Month Completion Requirement Completed Impressions
Forager September 2020 Completionist: Achieve every other feat Yes, 48h, 100% Loved it, new to the all-time favorites list
Deleveled January 2021 The Grand Finale: Complete All Levels in World 10 Yes, 14h, 100% Totally great! Minimalist puzzle games are my jam and this one was good quality!
Youropa November 2020 Top of the World: Reach the top of the tower Yes, 5h Really disappointed, not good...
Relicta May 2021 Mens sana in corpore sano: Complete all puzzles of Relicta Yes, 14h Dang why are these 3D puzzle games not as good as they look...
Yoku's Island Express August 2019 Kickback and relax: Complete the story Yes, 7h Loved it! Definitely going to revisit for 100%
Path of Giants December 2020 Archaeologist: Find the Lantri!. Yes, 3h, 100% Here we go, nice and easy, definitely what I was expecting.

I donā€™t have any clue how Civ would work anyways, thereā€™s not really a story to finish, just the Scenarios and I wouldnā€™t have a clue what would be needed to qualify.

The Scenarios should work. For example, the Conquests of Alexander Scenario has a pretty clear 'campaign' and 'end' after all.

[1] I played the whole game (Hellpoint) in co-op mode with my friend. I always connected to his world and we fought bosses together there, but only he got the achievements for them. (his achievements) We also tried playing a while in my world (and we rushed some bosses) but my internet connection is quite bad so it crashed a lot and we gave up after a few reconnections. So we completed the full game and reached the ending only in his world, I made a few screenshots along the way at least: weird guy, breach, friendly talk with final boss, beaten final boss. Hopefully its enough as a proof^^ I really enjoyed the game and since I'm not an achievement hunter I didn't mind much not being able to get those even though I killed each boss with my friend.

I really enjoyed Tales of the Neon Sea and I'll definitely have to play it in the future again and try to get all achievements. I knew that I'll like this game a lot when I saw a few videos/screenshots from it but I loved it even more than I though I will. This game goes in my "top games" list now for sure^^

I didn't think that it would be possible to take screenshots of something like this since we didn't beat the boss in my world, but I started the game again just now and it seemed like my data transfered to my world so I was able to meet with final boss again^^ This time I went with 1st ending (giving him the data) and I got these two achievements just now: Good Spawn, To the Fringe. June is here! I'm going to play cool summer games! or something ;)

Whew I made it out of Alcatraz! I had a lot of fun but also some intensely frustrating moments. Let's just say that the crafting and the planning are fun but when it comes to the stealth elements of the game, they are made exceptionally (and unnecessarily) difficult by the sheer randomness of everything. I have played quite a lot of stealth games and AI controlled elements tend to follow patters, which helps strategize and execute but who would want guards following rounds that can be cased and foreseen, right? :P
The once a day save was also a pain in my butt. All this being said, I have to go escape from Santa's Sweatshop. See ya later ;)

So I finally played Undertale and all I can safely say is "I don't get it". But hey at least now it's something crossed off the bucket list or something.

Aaaaaand I finally gave in and jumped feet first into the Matrix. I mean Hacknet. I have been putting it off for so long because I was afraid to get sucked in a little. I'm now writing from deep deep inside the rabbit hole and I already played the game about 4 times, and there are workshops mods too. Oh boy. I may never surface to play another 3 games before the end of the month but I'll send postcards from Zion.

Just finished Milky Way Prince. Hmmm what did I just play? I honestly couldn't tell if I liked it or not right now. I felt compelled to finish it to see how many bad ways this could end but I don't know if I'd ever play it again. I need to think about it some more.

If I play a game that doesn't really have an ending, how do you decide if it's beaten or not? Do you ask a minimum % of achievement? 100%?
I think about Sheltered by example.
Sorry if the question has already been asked

From FAQ:

Can I play a MP only game?
No. It needs to have an "end" in order for me to count it as beaten, so it needs to have a campaign/story mode.

Not MP but the same logic applies. I need to have an "end" to make fair.

Well, 100% could be considered an end to a game of this type. But I understand you, others might have achievements too easy to reach.

Hey there. Do you have any tips for Darksburg? I've tried 4 or 5 times, but can't manage to beat the third level, where I'm supposed to "run to the monastery". I always get overwhelmed with zombies after the gate and they don't stop coming at all.

At that part of the level, the enemies will not stop spawning, so once the gate opens, you should not waste too much time killing the enemies and head in the map marker's direction while spamming AOE abilities and dashing if your character can to prevent them from hitting you. I was able to complete the level with Rose & Twig by using Somersault to jump over enemies and Furball of Death with the Ninja Squirrel upgrade to kill the enemies still chasing me.

I hope this will be helpful to ya, good luck!

weird question, do games that have been bundled with keys outside of steam count for the challenge, for example ac origins which was an uplay key would count as one of the six games if you bought game on steam and start playing it now?

I had to think about this one since I wasn't sure on how I wanted to handle it. I would say no. Only because it would give some people an extra option that wouldn't be available to everyone who bought the same bundle.

Okay, I decided I had to try because my Sister said sheā€™d totally play It Takes Two with me, haha.

Iā€™m not entirely sure what would qualify as an ā€œendā€ for Size Matters or Civ VI, but I was playing Civ anyways, and was gonna do some Size Matters as backup before I realized there was no ā€œstoryā€ mode at all. Anyways, I might have time for another still if I need to.

  1. Going Under (Iā€™m Unemployed now)
  2. Vane (I guess I sacrificed myself?)
  3. Family Man (I was an Angel in an end)
  4. Morkredd (My dad and I were team players, and apparently fast?)
  5. Paw Paw Paw (Not sure why the end is a question)
  6. Effie (Such a slow final bossā€¦)
  7. Civ VI (Did a few scenarios, maybe it counts?)
  8. Size Matters (Completed a few runs of this, not 10 though)

I liked Going Under a lot, and did most of the game without using the assistance options, though I suck at Imposter mode so Iā€™ve been using them pretty heavily there.

Vane was just weird and not really enjoyable for me, a weird camera zooming in and out randomly while I just fly around waiting for stuff to happen? And then it just gets weirdā€¦

Family Man wasnā€™t too bad, but I was getting kind of annoyed by some of the stuff like how little I could actually do in a day and my kid calling me to ask me to come home when Iā€™m literally right outside the door but now have to wait until sheā€™s done talking to come inā€¦ Just like being a real Dad, I guess?

Morkredd was pretty cool, I enjoyed those puzzles and accidentally killing/getting killed with shadows.

Paw Paw Paw I thought was kinda cool, definitely trying to be Castle Crashers, but I liked some of the additions, like the actually different characters and their skill trees, and the boss drops were kinda cool (sometimes), but it seemed like it definitely expected you to play coop, and some of the stuff was getting pretty infuriatingā€¦

Effieā€¦ Was interesting. I thought I was going to like this one more than I did, but combat was really lackluster, every time you pulled a switch or hit a button, there was a 10-second ā€œcutsceneā€ showing what you triggered, even if it was literally right in front of youā€¦ And the final boss was so slow, you fight a few enemies, stand on a button, watch the ā€œcutsceneā€ then repeatā€¦ It takes way longer than it should, and if it follows the pattern of the other boss ā€œfightsā€ you would have to start it all over if you die (which thankfully I didnā€™t). Plus with no chapter select of any kind, going back for the relics I missed would require another whole play through, so that probably wonā€™t happen.

Civ VI, is Civ VI, I donā€™t know that I have too much to say about it, but Iā€™m pretty excited to try the Pirates and Red Death modes with friends/family, which werenā€™t on the Switch version, as far as Iā€™m aware.

And finally, Size Matters was a lot more enjoyable than I expected. I didnā€™t think I was going to like it, but thereā€™s a lot of options to play with, and even the default difficulties (that Iā€™ve tried so far) donā€™t seem as stressful as I was expecting.

Also just noticed that Iā€™ve played 90+ hours in the last 2 weeks, about 60 of which were these games, haha.

Civ VI is MP only so it doesn't count. From what I can tell Size Matters doesn't have a campaign of any sorts either. Not sure if I could allow that game unless proven otherwise.

Okay, thanks for letting me know, time to speed run Effie!
Yeah I was thinking Size Matters was going to have some kind of story for the shrinking and stopping it, but it doesnā€™t at all, haha.
And I should try Civ VIā€™s multiplayer, but none of my friends have been playing lately, haha. The scenarios are pretty fun, though.

Game Monthly Status Some Rambling
Milky Way Prince ā€“ The Vampire Star June 2021 #19 Beaten - 100%-ed Through my first playthrough, I couldn't help but feel like an outsider in this love romance. I can't find at any point that sympathetic feelings I usually have when I invest in a character. Every progress seem pushy and immatured to me. But I still read every single line, no matter how hard it was, simply because it's my first time and I didn't want to misjudge the game. I read some lemon fanfics before so I can just say that the sex scenes in this game are creative, but bold and in some way weird. At the end I reached the bad ending and by that time I really lost count of how many "WTF" I said during the playthrough. I felt like I just experience a hypnosis therapy. And all I left was an empty feeling. I by all means tried, but it's tough to care for anyone of the 2 main and only characters, due to the lack of any meaningful development in my opinion. Or maybe i'm just ignorance.
The Suicide of Rachel Foster October 2020 #11 Beaten - 100%-ed I didn't expect much when I started the game, since I saw the mixed reviews on Steam. But then in the middle of the playthrough I began to ask myself why would this amazing piece of art got so many negative reviews. I loved everything about it, the music, the detalled world building. It gave me the experience I once had in my dream, where I'm all alone in a big, maze-like building. And the music, and the voice-acting, there's so many things this game has nailed it. And at the end... I understood, why would some people had to give it a thumb down. I also believe that the writing of the ending is flawed. But I think it's worth give it a try for all the experience I told nevertheless, and maybe, you would have a different perspective about that controversive ending.
Moon Hunters May 2018 #31 Last boss beaten, but got bad ending... It was quite a fun experience playing with a friend. Though there are way too many ways to get the bad ending I believe. We're still trying to figure out the good ending by ourselve but I think we'll have to use a guide as a last resort soon.
Figment September 2018 #35 Finished I think if I was I child I'd absolutely love this game. Charming and witty puzzles, accompany with great voice-acting and well-made music. I don't know what has changed inside me since I was a kid, but I felt a bit sad thinking about how growing up made what seems genuinely enjoyable into somewhat of a choir... Maybe I'll save this game for my kid. xD
Little Nightmare September 2018 #35 Finished Unique in its every own way. Never have I ever felt the chill down to my spine playing a 2d-platfomer like this. The story is captivating that I'm sure I'll buy the DLC and the 2nd game... if only Bandai Namco has better region pricing :<
Bear With Me - Collector's Edition June 2018 #32 Finished - missed 4 Achievements god damnit Get this game for its awesome voice-acting. Seriously, that's probably the best selling point of the game. Music isn't abundant, but it's fit and smooth whenever it shows up. So smooth I felt asleep twice to it. But I do recommend buying this version instead, so you can upgrade it and have all 4 episodes in one game. Now I'm considering buying it again, but thinking about all the achievements I have to go through again makes me hesitate xD. Oh by the way, I had this on loop while playing and it accompanied the game quite perfectly for me and enhanced my experience a lot. Since there isn't much BGM in the game in the first place.

Exactly my thoughts about the Milky Way Prince! I love visual novels and I love BL stories, but this one.. I couldn't sympathize with any of the characters and I was wondering all the time "whats actually happening? do we live in a fantasy world or are these just illusions?". Development of the relationship of the main heroes felt weird to me from the beginning and I was constantly looking for other choices which weren't there. From the start I felt like this game can't end good, there's no way if it keeps continuing like that. I got the "good ending" which basically told me what I already knew: both characters made mistakes. (But at least they can learn from them and it pushed them forward and made them stronger in some way.) This game has a pretty good reviews on Steam so I'd like to think it just wasn't my cup of tea. I was just suprised that I didn't get hooked on to it, visually the game looks great.

Sometimes I really detest being a completionist as myself, so I can just move on from games like these QvQ On my later playthrough to 100% this the noticeable gaps between every single textboxes started to hit me hard :))) And at that point my experience with the game went from annoying tolerable to downright frustrating.
