Welcome to the next episode in my completely irregular series, where I offer games to people who are the most likely to play them.

Today's offer is Lorelai: an indie psychological horror point and click adventure that tries to scare you not with cheap monsters or telling you that there is some Elder God you are supposed to be afraid from because we tell you so. It scares you because it portrays too bluntly real characters with real fights, going to the extreme with their actions. (Disclaimer: one puzzle has two solutions; one of them will make you be really, really, really cruel to an everyday person.)

It fits my theme by being the sequel of The Cat Lady (and Downfall). If you remember how these threads go, you also know what will come next.

I am offering a Humble gift link of Lorelai in the form of a whitelist-only giveaway. When I posted this thread, said list was empty and once the game is redeemed, it will be empty again.
To get on said list, prove to me that you played the previous two adventures by Harvester Games, the ones that act as a precursor to Lorelai. Show me your Steam achievement pages of The Cat Lady and Downfall. Show me that you have at least 40 of the combined 55 achievements, then I will temporarily put you on my whitelist.
Once you are on the whitelist, you will be able to access this giveaway:
https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/OP16Y/lorelai

As a bonus, you can bet on how many people will try to click on that link without reading a single word and come back here to complain about running into a wall.

The giveaway runs until next Monday (2019-07-15) 3 PM UTC. You can apply a few hours before that deadline. I will not be around all days, but I'll be around on that Monday, so I'll check all applicants before it ends.

I will not respond individually, I just list everyone who got in here:
heilurmes, Fet, fauren, CrypticComrade, Bladeling, Svipur, TempeteJoachim, Makta, Atalante, adam1224, FeedMeAStrayCat, Hudy, Room404, oginer, Lavito, Amitte, Szedeth, MoltenDragon, Khayta, Pczelda, jaTravka,

I don't have Downfall, and I've had The Cat Lady since forever (got it in a bundle, probably this one, a million years ago) but never really felt like playing it. It never struck me as something I'd enjoy. Because of this thread, I've had to reevaluate The Cat Lady a little. It sounds like I might actually enjoy it.

Thank you. :)

Oh, the GA? Yeah, I know I don't qualify. I just figured I should share this.

The Cat Lady is a really surprisingly good horror game. Instead of screamers/startles you get an unnerving slice of (abnormal) life. It's definitely worth digging out of the backlog, but go in prepared to fumble against the interaction / mechanics at first.

It takes a little to gather momentum, and the visuals / voice acting put people off at first, but it's really worth it IMO.
Downfall is a kind of prequel (sidequel?) that got remastered from an old free version. Lorelai is the final in the trilogy.

The Cat Lady is one of my favorite point and click games of all time and I completed both games as well as probably watched about 15 let's plays of The Cat Lady, but I just play games to enjoy them and don't go out of my way to get achievements, so I only have a total of 39 between the 2 games. I have had Lorelai wishlisted since last year though. Any chance you will let me in with 39 instead of 40?

It feels a bit like getting through a technicality on a technicality, but here goes: your list of Downfall achievements doesn't have 'Lucky Dip' in it - and you can get this one in a few seconds without leaving the main menu. Fire up the game, go to Extras, then Lucky Dip. It will show you a random piece of artwork each time. There are about five of those in total, as far as I remember. So just keep pressing the thing until the achievement pops up.

Thanks for taking the time to look through my achievements and find a quick solution. That was really nice of you :)

I absolutely loved The Cat Lady, I don't own and therefore have not played Downfall yet though and that's fine, I have too many games to finish anyway and too little time right now (even less because I want to/ need to cut down on gaming time) so good luck to those entering.
I like giveaways like this where people who actually want to play these games have a chance to win :)

You got all achievements in the same day? Did you finish the game in one go? :o

First time I played the game was on Desura, and it took about 8 hours. Once I got it on Steam I did a quick "achievement run".

If my memory serves, The Cat Lady is super cheap during sales due to its age, though I think they might have caught on to how loved the game is and the price might have bounced up a bit. Definitely worth picking up if you enjoyed Downfall (The Cat Lady is way more interesting, less meandering, and has better voice acting in general).

Not into horror games but that's a cool GA and a good way to use the WL feature.

Isn't the required achievements count a bit too high though? Some of them are mutually exclusive, and way too many easily missable (I've got 48, but that's only because I followed corresponding guides during replaying the first two parts of the trilogy recently).

Anyway, kudos for the GA and for spreading the word about Michalski's games, the guy is a genius!

No, since I usually require dedication. Most of these things asked for 100%. I want to make sure the winner is invested in this series.

I do not postulate.

The problem of always joking is that nobody takes you seriously. I have recommended The Cat Lady millions of times to my friends. No damn case. I played it in an "interesting" moment of my life and from the very (brutal) opening it took away the foolishness...

I did not know Lorelai. I select the game to follow while waiting for its translation into Spanish.

I loved The Cat Lady and it's one of the games that got me into point-and-click adventures. Looks like a good time to start the new version of Downfall. Will report back after.

Also, an aside, the old version is Downfall is free if anyone is interested (http://www.screen7.co.uk/#!/free-games). It is pretty graphic of course like the other games in the series. The hand drawn art is great. It'll be interesting to see how the new one differs.

I feel the original flowed a bit better, but both were good in their own right. It was nice seeing some familiar faces.

The Cat Lady is a great game indeed, but I have to say it's probably, technically not a point and click adventure, since it does not use the mouse, being keyboard only (not even a controller, could be fun) but yes otherwise it has most of the mechanics used with the point and click adventure formula.

Nice, thanks! I understand the Queen of Maggots only became that when The Cat Lady was made. In the original free version of Downfall, she was a very different character called Lady Maggots that I heard has little to do with the character in the trilogy. I'm not sure how else it differs between free and remake versions.

Hey, I had to play Cat Lady once again to get some more achievements, as I'm not really an achievement maniac, but no worries as it is a great game (and much better than Downfall) ;) Thanks for the chance.

There's a weird disconnect in Downfall right from the very start where Ivy asks you why you still love her - and you're sitting there with a whole bunch of dialogue options with nothing to go by besides 'Your nails-on-chalkboard monotone voice makes me want to kill myself in the most beautiful way imaginable.'

Loved The Cat Lady, though. I'd still love to see the trilogy through to the end, but there's that nagging feeling in the back of my head that maybe I should leave the GA to those who are more appreciative of Michalski's work.

Aw, darn. I loved The Cat Lady (I went out of my way to get the golden ending), but watched a Let's Play of Downfall instead of playing it because I was jittery about how some of the themes would be handled. (And as it turns out, I did end up liking The Cat Lady's story much more.) It's nice to see a thread with some proper appreciation for Harvester Games, though! I wish more studios out there were producing point & click horror games, especially with that level of storytelling.

Downfall is terrific - I played the original, looking forward to giving the new one a spin. Looking forward also to Cat Lady. I'm perfectly content not to be in this GA, because giant backlog - but thanks for giving it! A new entry on my wishlist.

It took about 3 years to finish The Cat Lady. And what it gives, had depression in the meanwhile... :D
If you played the original Downfall then you don't need the encouragement, but Cat Lady really starts at the middle of chapter 2. That was the "now you have my attention" moment for me and it was almost nonstop afterwards. It's fantastic. Less surrealistic than Downfall, and it is more about actual action (as things happening) but they are kind of the different side of the same coin. I think The Cat Lady just resonates better with me a lot more, but I still have two playthroughs of Downfall to get all achievements. It may change.

I started Cat Lady when people first began to notice it, and liked it immediately, which is why I also immediately stopped playing it and went over to Downfall. The original really is immensely imaginative and disturbing; that raw, half-finished quality made the narrative and the craziness all the more powerful. So many games, so little time!

I have only 39 total, dammit, and 25 of those came from The Cat Lady! lol I will change that within the coming days, though. I loved both of these games! They are both terrific. I'm super excited for Lorelai, too, but just haven't had the money to buy it.

Thanks so much for this giveaway!

I am quoting @Svipur (some messages above) :

I feel so, SO lucky.
Finished The Cat Lady with all achievements on the 7th (25/25) https://steamcommunity.com/id/adam1224/stats/appid/253110/achievements
And got 15 achievements in Downfall on the 8th https://steamcommunity.com/id/adam1224/stats/appid/364390/achievements
So together I exactly have 40 with some regrettable ones that I wasn't happy for unlocking. But at least no explanations are needed, and I can still get all the remaining in my own pace :D

I loved the Cat Lady (thank you AwesomePandaax for letting me win this incredible game) and played it twice to obtain all the achievements. Downfall was slightly less awesome.
