Thought I would try it and didn't see a discussion on its own so I thought I would make my first ever new discussion, with a poll no less.

No real interest in having a debate on this, beyond the poll, so any flame attacks on me will probably just go unanswered. I already know what I can do with myself, and my mother is a lovely lady.

What do you think of humble games collection games?

View Results
[Yeah] Hey I already get the Choice bundle, so this is a nice extra perk
[Nay] These games are trash like most of the Choice bundles
[Complaint 1] Why not just put these games in the Choice to begin with?
[Meh] Seems like a marketing ploy to keep people subscribed to Choice for other reasons than the games in Choice
[Potato] This is just Trove rebranded. I like turtles.

I grabbed Fate of Kai, Dodgeball Academia, and Copoka, which were on my wishlist. There are a few others I am interested in, but before I commit more hard drive space, let's see what tomorrow's (1 March) Choice brings or doesn't bring.

I personally prefer to play my games on Steam. While I do collect the free games from Epic/Prime gaming, I barely ever play any of them. I subscribed to Humble Choice for the first time back in December (1 year with the promo code they had at the time). I never played any of the games in Trove, and to me this is just Trove rebranded (I don't see a difference other than the games requiring Windows). I doubt I will end up playing any games in this collection, and if I do it would probably only be to try a game before buying it.

I don't see a difference other than the games requiring Windows

I got Strike Suit Zero from Humble Trove, and that game requires not only Windows, but Windows 8/8.1, which I had long since updated from.

It's not that different, is what I'm saying.

There is DRM. That was the first thing I checked with the client. Downloaded unsighted, it ran fine from the client. Shut down the client and tried to run Unsighted, it started the client. Renamed the client executable to stop Unsighted from launching it, game wouldn't run.

The entire reason they moved to a client instead of the old model where you could just download anything and have it forever is so they can add DRM and force you to stay subscribed.

Did you check the ex-Trove games too? These are separate categories in Collection. It wouldn't be out of the question to put DRM on the more high profile Humble released games, while keeping the "small" games DRM free

There are 2 different things. The trove (now called the vault), which works as always, and all the games there are drm free and for you to keep forever (as long as you keep the installer saved somewhere), and this new collection that's Humble's game pass, that allows you to play some games while you're subscribed to Choice.

"Play our Humble Games Collection as a member bonus"

They were pretty damn clear about that from the start.

TL;DR: Humble Trove rebranding + shoving yet another launcher in our faces, 'cause everybody else is doing it, so why not?
Technically speaking, they split it into two different groups, all accessed through the same app:

  1. Humble Vault, which is a renamed Trove, just requiring use of the client to download otherwise DRM-free games, that you can then launch anytime once installed, regardless of membership status;
  2. Humble Games Collection, games with DRM that you can only play while being an active subscriber (i.e. akin to "free" games with XBOX Live Gold and PS+, or more accurately, subscriptions like EA Play and XBOX Gamepass).

And since it wouldn't combine that well with this new scheme, they killed Linux and Mac support.

Flynn: Son of Crimson was surprisingly good. Definitely worth a try if you like the genre and have access to the Collection.

I mainly use it to see if the games I don't own are any good. Dodgeball Academia was more fun than I expected. Unsighted and Flynn were also rather good. I already own the other three.

If anyone wants to see an updated list of available games without downloading the client (thanks Humble but no thanks)
