For an example of what STB is talking about, here're the apps for the 2016 sub, which includes the Base 2017 game and the 2016 core DLCs: https://steamdb.info/sub/78707/apps/
Here're the main 2017 subs:

Given that what's essentially sold each year is a different sub of the same base game, it feels like SG needs to be adding each sub onto the list manually, if possible (and remove the base game from the giveaway list).

Either way, so long as what SG is listing is the app for Train Simulator (base game) and not the subs (that actually compose the yearly releases), I suppose it's technically correct to list any edition of the game under the giveaway, since they all do give the necessary app (regardless of what the page that houses that app is currently titled). :X
I presume that people that own one version of the game can't enter giveaways for new versions of it either, since ownership of the base game would prohibit that. So in that sense, treating them all as the same app works suitably.
So perhaps your approach of simply making it very clear which routes are included is best (if SG doesn't put up the individual subs)..?

Here is what we actually got with the recent Humble bundle, which differs slightly:

Looks like the one I linked included some promotional bonuses. =O

Yeah, but the Humble version is also missing the "Norfolk Southern Coal District Route Add-On":

I added a link. :)
My point actually was to indicate that there already are some subs that should be listed on SG to clarify differences in editions, but aren't. At the moment, what's being sold on SG are the Standard and Pioneer editions of 2017, as well, so it isn't as if they don't have precisely labeled subs this year, either.

The Steam Edition of TS2016 not only includes the three main routes as featured in TS2016, but as an added bonus the Norfolk Southern Coal District is part of the package as well!
Sigh. Why couldn't Humble have just negotiated to get us the Steam edition?

Can we giveaway Train Simulator 2016?
Train Simulator activation works in such a way that codes for any year automatically give you the latest year (the app ids are all the same). So, a code for 2016 will give you the base game for 2017.
The problem is, updates to the routes for each year are NOT automatic, so if you activate with a 2016 key, you'll get a 2017 base game + 2016 routes.
Is that OK as long as we specify that in the giveaway description?
