Solution

as i wrote earlier maiki is the keyword. The first step is to find the different index j for the keyword.

  • compare each letter of the keyword with the standard alphabet and you get j depending on the position of the letters.
  • a=0, b=1, c=2, d=3,..., z=25
  • maiki ---> j=12,0,8,10,8
  • first j takes affect on first letter of encrypted text, second on second,..., last on last one

The inverse operation of encrypting leads to ρ^(-j)P^(-1).
This only takes affect on the encrypted text.

Take each letter one by one and do the following steps:
ρ^(-j) : At first you have to shift left the letter in the alphabet by j steps.
P^(-1) : Find the result after shifting in the second line of the permutation P and get the letter above that line.

encryted text:---J--B--Z--Z---W
j:------------------12-0--8--10--8
ρ^(-j):-------------X--B--R--P---O
ρ^(-j)P^(-1):-----x--m--j----r---q
(XXxxx):----------X--M--j----r---q <<<--- giveaway code ;)

Its that simple ;) just kidding.

Thanks for participating and good luck next time ;)

edit2: the inverse operation of encrypting is (X(j))^-1=ρ^(-j)P^(-1)

ρ^j = shift right

ρ^-j = shift left

compare the keyword to the alphabet and you will find the different j.

dont forget: a=0.

edit: okay, since noone seems to be able to solve my puzzle here are some more hints:

To encrypt the giveaway code i used the formula stated in the original text X(j)=Pρ^j.

ρ is the indicator for a shift operation.
j is the index of the letter in the alphabet --> keyword???.

Decrypting is the inverse (X(j)^(-1)) operation of encrypting!!!

a=0

This should make it way easier...

Okay guys,

this is my first attempt on creating a puzzle for the community so i hope its not too easy nor too hard.

For now its for a small game worth 10 points (ends in one week). Because of that I made it way easier than it was meant to be when I first thought about using this as a puzzle.

Here we go:

HINTS

For the following puzzle

  • ρ be the circle of the standard alphabet: (abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz).

  • P be the permutation
    a|b|c|d|e|f|g|h|i|j|k|l|m|n|o|p|q|r|s|t|u|v|w|x|y|z
    A|L|G|E|M|I|N|C|H|R|T|K|B|D|F|J|O|P|Q|S|U|V|W|X|Y|Z

  • X(j)=Pρ^j (used for encrypting)

  • keyword: maiki (used for encrypting the giveaway code)

  • encrypted text : JBZZW

If you've solved the puzzle you already have the giveaway code in the form of (XXxxx) X=capital x=lower case

Now its your turn ;)

Have fun solving this puzzle. I'll create more of that kind in the future if this turns out to run well ;)

Is Pρ^j supposed to be (Pρ)^j or P(ρ^j)?

P multiplied with ρ^j

What is "ρ^j" supposed to be? ρ is just the alphabet...

This looks very hard...
Do you have a second puzzle somewhere? What's the 20$ contributor one on your profile?

This puzzle is near impossible. It can be any of eight different ciphers, has a bunch of possible answers, and a steady trail of breadcrumbs on each leading to different ciphers.

Any hints or help on the type of cipher? or combination of ciphers? I can't seem to find much info on permutation ciphers, and what I did find, didn't seem to apply.

I am very sorry to say this, but I think it's just not very entertaining to even start doing. One knows what needs to be done exactly, it's just worded too clumsily to be solved right off the bat, and checking the results is quite bothersome. Oh, and if you don't know what to make of it you probably are out of the game instantly. Simply put, it doesn't look like fun, and puzzles should be fun. Even textbook cryptography problems are usually more involving.

Impossible for me ;)
About what my problem is - i don't really understand keyword here ^^ For Substitute Cipher it makes no sense, as letter "i" appears two times ;P

so am i on the right track
(keep in mind i have no idea what going on and these are complete guesses but none of them worked)
i thought it would be one of these
http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/KAiim
http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/AKiim
http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/KMiia
http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/MKiia
http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/AMiik
http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/MAiik

i got these by this way which is probably so far off and wrong but this is what i did

Keyword: maiki (so i used this as the letters to get the final awnsers i figured it would be a combination of these letters or one of the permutations of them)

Next i took the encrypted text : JBZZW and saw that there is a "ZZ" seeing thins made me think that the 2 letters that are the same go next to each other in the 3rd and 4th slot. from there it was guess and check with which combo got me to the give away the only problem was i never did)

and lastly i got the capital letters and lowercase from this form of (XXxxx) X=capital x=lower case

and that's my work however its so wrong i am lost on what to do cause that is the only logical thing i could make of this Riddler like puzzle
