I was a big fan of Septerra Core but the ending drags on a little. If you are lucky you can get a free key somewhere, since it was given away in bulk in the past.
As for some non-Steam games:
In general you should look at the SNES, Playstation 1, Playstation 2 and Nintendo DS, since their libraries have a strong JRPG presence.
If you like the Shadowrun series you should take a look at Shadowrun on the SNES.
Lufia 2 is an often overlooked SNES game but it's one of the best in its generation.
Parasite Eve and Vagrant Story on the PS1 are fantastic.

Legend of Mana on PSX, one of the best JRPG I've played, the unique, storybook-like art style aged beautifully too.

RPG games come in five major varieties:
*1st/3rd Person / Open-world, such as Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Witcher, Fallout, Elder Scroll series
Isometric, such as Baldur's Gate, Shadow Run, Divinity Series
Turn-based Party/Grid (mostly old school): Legend of Grimrock, Bard's Tale, Ultima, Might and Magic, Wizardry series
JRPGs: Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Ys, Tales of series
Action RPG / Hack N Slash: Diablo, Victor Vran, Van Helsing, Torchlight
A lot of people prefer one or two types over the others, and their advise tends to skew that way. I think it's best to figure out which types of RPG you like most, and then ask for recommendations more suitable to your taste. For example, personally I don't care about JRPGs, and could never give good advice to someone who prefers those over other kinds of RPGs. Likewise, if I ask for recommendations, JRPG suggestions are useless to me.

Hi, I was wondering if you would have RPGs to advise me. Currently I have :
♦ Beyond Divinity, Divine Divinity & Divinity 2
♦ Dragon Age : Origins
♦ Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun HongKong & Shadowrun Dragonfall
♦ The Red Solstice
♦ The Witcher & The Witcher 2
♦ Trillion : God of Destruction
♦ Fairy Fencer F
♦ Hyperdimension Neptunia Re:Birth 1, Hyperdimension Neptunia Re:Birth 2, Hyperdimension Neptunia Re:Birth 3
I play a little bit of everything ... I took advantage of the sales to go a little more towards the J-RPG (hoping not to be mistaken ...), but I would like to have some tracks everywhere for the future, see what titles I could turn to. I really enjoyed Dragon Age and Shadowrun, I still have to test The Witcher and the other titles. thank you in advance.
(Sorry for my mistakes, I'm a francophone player and I still have a hard time writing ^^")
