Checked few old GAs (older than 4 months) for Fallout 4
State | Count |
---|---|
Not touched | 11 |
Barely played | 1 |
Played | 2 |
There one of 'played' was APG giveaway and 'barely played' as I recall, too. 14% of happy winners. Others didn't, apparently, want this crap.
"It is too expensive to buy these games just to sit in library. If it is free, it is fine" :)

A fast tour through SG:
'I won XXXX games! Of course I can't play these games, it's impossible';
'I have too big backlog and your game is not in priority. But I will play it eventually';
'Once your GA ends, you must provide the gift, and you lose your right to say anything, don't bother me with this playing wins crap';
'Casual user does so, you can't blame casual user for being casual';
'This is implied by SG mechanics, anything beyond rules is inconsistent with cg's design ';
'You got CV for your game, what else do you want?';
'Do people who win the games you enjoy, like them as much?'

Hey SG!
I have quite much to do this month, but right now I'm waiting for a delayed train and needed find something to do for a while, and I came up with this for some reason.
I love playing computer games, and winning a game I'm excited about playing (and then going on to play it) is so much fun. I also really enjoy it the other way around, when a game I decided to buy for a giveaway is won by someone who plays it, and really enjoys it! So much more fun to spend money to give someone hours of enjoyment rather than spend €20 just to make someone's "6342" into a "6343" and give them some cards worth €0.25 they can spend to come a bit closer to levelling up on Steam...
Games you are/were excited about and want to/wanted to win and entered giveaways for. What happened with those games given away, that you didn't win? This is a bit inspired by a discussion by LastM, and I hope it will motivate some of you to play some of those gems of games you might have won but not started playing yet :)
Think of two good choices for each of these categories:
1) Games you hope to win (but haven't won yet)
2) Games you hoped to win, but ended up getting elsewhere (bought yourself, traded for, got as a birthday/holiday gift etc)
3) Games you hoped to win, and did actually win
Check your entries for these games
I chose to limit it to giveaways with a maximum of 100 entries ("high chance giveaways"), and giveaways older than 6 months. You might want to have other restrictions if you don't enter many giveaways with less than 100 entries.
To see what happened with the games without too much trouble, I used the Did they even play script. I counted how many had 10% or more achievements, and how many had less. I calculated the percentage of users with 10%+ achievements as well (I call these "happy winners" in the chart).
These are the results:
So, for great games, seems like around 20-30% of the winners play the game 6 months to 3 years after winning. That's actually higher than I thought it would be, so I'm positively surprised! Makes me happy that at least every third/fourth winner of these games goes on playing them!
If you have won any of these games I listed above, but not started them yet, I really recommend you to do so! Actually, I can confess I haven't started The Witcher III myself yet. I know it's a game that would take me long time to get through, and I made sure to finish many other, shorter games I won here on SG before (I finished over 100 won games now), and now I have started my project of playing all three of the games back to back. That will take me quite a while, but see this thread as me challenging myself as well, to play probably the best game I have ever won here.
So, how does it look for the rest of you? If you're curious enough to look.
You can use this for the chart if you want:
...and now my train arrives in just a few minutes. Perfect! I'll get ill by reading at the train, so see you later :)
