EDIT: Thanks for the advice everyone! I'm gonna buy the game on Steam and add it to my inventory. Then, if by some miracle, it's one of the Humble Monthly unlocks I'll get a refund on Steam.

The GA is still active :)

Three bits of background information:

  1. I really want to get The Long Dark.
  2. I subscribed to the Humble Monthly bundle for November on a whim after seeing some people predict that The Long Dark would be one of the unlocks.
  3. After being disappointed at the unlock games for November, I was planning to unsubscribe before the December bundle, but I forgot to do so and have now auto renewed.

My basic question is: should I buy The Long Dark in the current Steam sale (50% off) or wait to see if it’s included in the Humble Monthly bundle for December? Obviously, by the time the bundle is announced, it won’t be on sale on Steam anymore and I don’t want to buy it at full price.

Maybe I’m just being paranoid because for the last couple of sales it was only reduced by 40%. Have they reduced it by more this time to sell more copies before it gets bundled? ಠ~ಠ

TLDR; just take the game you vultures ;)

Should I buy The Long Dark in the Steam sale or hope that it is included in the December Humble Monthly bundle?

Just buy it on Steam now! YOLO
Don’t buy it! I can predict the future and I’m pretty sure it’ll be in the December Bundle…
You should buy ______ instead! (Suggestions welcome :))
I’m as indecisive as you are! It took me 30 minutes just to answer this poll…

buy it on steam; support the dev; mess around in sandbox; wait for story... :D

The devs definitely seem worthy of the support. Game looks awesome as it is and I'm sure the story mode can only make it better :)

If you are interested in playing TLD now-in the very near future, BUY IT! It is great (and I don't like survival as a genre) and the dev team seems cool. Even if it ends up being in the next Monthly, I'm pretty sure you could get a good trade out of it.

That being said, if you're unsure of when you'd be playing, wait for Christmas sales. There is a strong possibility it will be at least 40 % off and combining that with the extra 10 % off for Monthly subscribers won't leave you that far behind.

Buy now, dont start it until December reveals and if its in December bundle, you can refund it. Thats it if you plan to play it by the end of the week.

That Sir/Madam is a good idea! Kind of makes this whole thread irrelevant ;) Though, should I feel guilty about abusing the Steam refund system?

abuse, not really, no. From what I remember (I might be mistaken) you can select as reason that you found it cheaper when refunding (that is one of the purposes from what I Read somewhere), but as long as it meets the time requirements, there is no reason required, since the process will be pretty much automated anyways.

You could also hope for a bigger discount during the Christmas sale as others suggested, they usually either keep the same discounts in some cases or make it bigger, highly improbable that it will be more expensive during the winter sale.

OK great, thank you for the advice. Buying it now and refunding it later (if necessary) seems like the best option. I think I'm too impatient to wait for the Christmas sale, but I'll think about it :)

Make sure you buy as gift and leave it in your inventory. That way you can be sure you won't accidentally idle it or anything like that.

So the 2 week limit is only if a game is in your Library and not your Inventory? That is good to know for the future.:)

I think the 2 week limit is for every purchase so that includes and inventory gifts.

It would be great if it's included in the bundle. But, if it's not included, buy it next month on the sale, maybe with a better discount.

If you extremely want to play it at this moment, just buy it then. I would wait this 4 remaining days.

I remember almost buying Spec Ops The Line at 4 dollars on Nuuvem, 2 months later was 1 dollar on HB Tier 1.
The same with The Banner Saga 1, which could get cheap because HB Monthly (was not subscribed), and many more.

Yeah, I now. You are right. Games always get cheaper. It's just hard to wait sometimes ;)

You can buy on steam and then, if it appears magically in december's humble you can give it back and take back your MONEY!

Good luck then ;)

Or you could wait until December reveals and if it is not in the December bundle, then buy it on Steam during the winter sale (Which starts on December 22).

I am guessing that it will probably be the same price it is now during the Autumn sale or maybe even less. (Or maybe it won't be on sale at all... although, I am pretty sure it will be since that is my general experience with both the sales... usually Winter Sale has been better.)

I guess it is kind of a risk, but hey.... it's another option.

Yeah, definitely worth considering. The only reason I'm eager to buy it now is that it was 40% in the last 2 sales and in this one it's 50%. I know that it could be the same or better at Christmas :)

The more you wait the more discounts you may have !

To be honest, I would be reluctant to buy a game that has been more than 2 years in Early Access and still not released, despite good reviews.

That's true, but sometimes you just can't wait ;) I know what you mean about the EA part. I'm usually a bit more reluctant. I just have a good feeling about this one. I could be wrong.

If you're eager to play it, go for it. If not, just wait a bit till the new bundles is released, there are the winter sales comin up and TLD will probably see the same discount again. I gt it last winter sale for 50% off too, so chances are high.

The bundle is getting revealed in 4 days or so. Even if the chances of TLD being are low, i'd say wait it out. If it's included in the bundle, all the better. If not, you can just buy it during the christmas sale which can't be that far off either way.
