Are steam keys activated even when game is already owned?

I just bought the Humble Bundle 9, and there was one game that I already owned, but didn't notice until after I had tried to activate it. Steam told me the product was already owned and continued to the install screen. Is this key still good to give away in places like Steamgifts or did Steam eat my key? I don't know how to check that wouldn't activate it on another account. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can give it away,install screen appear to install the game that you already won

Yep, its good, When you use a code for a game you already have steam just said that, so the key still works.
