I think these terms should have a different name.
In any case i think the whitelist is useful when making a giveaway, when the other is more of a hindrance than anything else.

Blacklist because it always seems there is a greater need for punishment than reward. This actually applies to most aspects of life tbh.

Edit: Did the poll after the comment and voted blacklist, which is at 60% currently, although most comments state whitelist? Anybody care to discuss this discrepancy? My thought is either whitelist users looking for community praise, or more likely it's blacklist users trying to avoid being added to more blacklists by talking about them in the comments. Thoughts?

At least right now whitelist is in front with 59% while blacklist is at 25%. Maybe some people who vote for blacklist fear to get blacklisted if they post that they choose blacklist over whitelist.

It's the other way around now.

My thought is either whitelist users looking for community praise

My thoughts are people who vote for the blacklist are not the ones who like to use their words?

Exactly. Looks like people consider "whitelist" option to be the only socially acceptable one (unlike "blacklist") and therefore prefer to remain anonymous if they choose the latter.

As much as I like doing giveaways for people on my white list, I have to admit, without the black list it would be much more problematic to make public giveaways. It's a good tool for restricting entries by those who 'game' the system, thereby giving those that do not a better chance of winning and that's the goal as I see it. I don't use the black list to 'punish' others for their opinions or for any other personal reasons. It's impossible to choose really - both lists are useful.

The whitelist, no doubt, though both are essential to me, if the blacklist feature was to be removed, then I won't be making public giveaways anymore.

I've been there but there are 1,000 spots in the blacklist and hundreds of thousands (millions?) users on the site. Whatever your criteria for BL, there will always be more people than 1,000 so public GAs are always a gamble even with the BL.

Whitelist to reward those that go above and beyond. I rarely blacklist anyone and limiting giveaways is easy to control with whitelist, lvl reqs, groups, etc.

def whitelist. I have yet to actually use my BL while my WL at least gets more attention, even if only just barely. I'm on a few other's WL and typically don't accrue BLings save for this one time a while ago when I was still pretty new I somehow managed to find myself added to quite a few over a 2 day period.
I was recently trying to figure out what it was that I did to provoke such wrath and couldn't figure it out. For the life of me I can't remember what it could have possibly been. My best guess is maybe it was caused by my past habit of always commenting with every entry since I figured that was the polite thing to do but then later realized how much the inbox spam can suck for the gifter (many end up preferring to not get generic entry thanks and wld rather keep that part for the end when a winner is determined, myself included. showing appreciation upon winning is all the validation I need for that lil kick of feel good. Of course interesting/amusing comments and conversation are always welcome). Being that it seemed to be a spike centered around more of a singular event makes me second guess my "ty spam" theory but as I'm not usually one to cause unnecessary waves and try to keep my interactions positive and sincere, esp around here since I feel this place is very positive at it's core and want to promote that ideal whenever possible, I can't really figure anything else that stands out to me.

If anyone has any insight or happens to have been one of the BLers and doesn't mind shining a little light on this for me that would be greatly appreciated. Remaining on someone's BL is fine enough, I just assume that their reasoning was justifiable for them at the time and it is THEIR list after all, but if I'm able to at least know why then I might be able to reevaluate my actions for the future.

I want a greenlist, just to be contrarian. ;)

To me, the WL is a no-brainer choice.

Also, I promise to not add you to any lists. You were already in the white one. ;)

interesting point of view.

still, i'd choose whitelist, also cause i'm ...lazy. kinda same i do with games: i do not hide games, here around. but i do put the ones i would win in Steam wishlist.
and always used SG whitelist -a lot-, not "wasting" too much time finding the "bad guys".. (+with whitelist is lotta more fun!)

When I first read that thread title, I thought of being a smartass and reply "ze blacklist" because I like black better and, also, it makes you look slimmer. :3

Buuuut... thinking about it, nah, can't choose. It will be le none for me.

Aaaaaand I promise I won't add you to neither my black or white list. *le chuckle*
I searched for a smug face... and this one was the best. Ya. You really want to punch him in the pie hole

My 💙. Every. Time.

I am using my blacklist. I wish I wasn't but it's just a knee jerk reaction sometimes. BUT I much prefer rewarding people I like and people who are active. The rest won't be missing much anyway.

I use my whitelist way more than blacklist so I would have to choose that.

I don't use my blacklist. Only actually practical use I can see it having is avoiding re-rolls from known rulebreakers, but those can also be avoided most of the time by not making lvl 0 public GAs so...
It's not like I make whitelist GAs, I think I only made those like twice, but at least it's a way to make someone feel liked when they check their stats I'd hope.

I have a VERY small blacklist. It honestly wouldn't be a big deal if it didn't exist.

So... whitelist all the way.

Yeah, the WL for sure.
Nothing stays for long on my BL anyway as people end up there for the wrong reasons anyway.

What is it with anger (or even unjustified anger that makes us lose our heads so?).

Maybe we just change the names, so that we stop using "white" as an equal for "good" and "black" as an equal for "bad". Since I would prefer the good list, it could be purple (like RosimInc proposed) or green (like Cassol proposed).
Can we actually change it, when we get a big part of the community behind that idea?
