My board game collection, not sure if any of you share the hobby :D but I'm looking to grow my collection.
Recommendations are welcomed!

I enjoy playing party games the most and didn't like Euro Games due to them being a little too complicated for a pick-up and play session.

Azul
Flamecraft - bonus points for its art being adorable
Photosynthesis - rules are very simple, but it can have a ton of strategy to it

I've been so close to picking up Photosynthesis several times.
I might have to do it now :D

I do recommend giving it a play before buying, while it is simple on the rules, certain playgroups can take things to far in it.

Gonna echo Azul as well.

Blue Lagoon is an easy to pick up and play game without very complex rules or strategy but it always ends up fun at the table.

Dominion is an old but classic engine making game which can provide hours upon hours of fun,
Gizmos is a nice alternative if you like more gimmicky/tactile stuff

Betrayal at the house on the Hill is a classic but heavily depends on the table. It is very unbalanced and finicky but if you got a bunch of roleplayers/B-horror enjoyers you'll most likely love it. Avoid in any other case.

If you enjoy dexterity games our table had a lot of fun with Meeple Circus. Lovely chaos and panic all around.

If you got a crowd(7-8+) Codenames is a must. This is usually the one I bring out on family gatherings since everyone can play and even the ones that dislike board games tend to like it.

If you have a decicated group that can meet up a couple days a month consistently Gloomhaven ofc is a great playing/narrative experience. Do not be afraid to play on lower difficulties if you feel it is too lenghty/hard. Our group decided to not do this and it completely killed it for us after 12-13 sessions.

And again only if you have a dedicated group that is willing to learn a complex game Root is an absolute masterpiece. This isn't a game you can learn in 10 mins though, just to teach it to my group took 50mins and I even had studied and planned the structure of the "lecture" beforehand. Imagine about 15-25mins for general gameplay and about 10mins to explain each faction since they all work differently.

Root is an excellent game but probably way too complex and confrontational considering satanclauss mostly enjoys party games ;)

It's worth noting that there's a great digital version of it on steam https://store.steampowered.com/app/965580/Root/

I have Sagrada isn't Azul similar in look and mechanics? or maybe I'm wrong
Definately need to get Betrayal at House on the Hill!

azul and sagrada definitely have their similarities

I personally find Azul easier to bring out to those who don't game as much as there is less going on(no cards to consider, no variable layouts as everyone has same board(optional... there is the flip side for added difficulty).

there is a reason Azul made it into the more "normie" market and Sagrada didn't.

There are a bunch of Japanese board games that are pretty fun and simple. Look up Deep Sea Adventure, In a Grove, Wind the Film or Coffee Grinder. You can also try Iki, though I'm not sure if that counts as a Euro Game.

I spotted Dice Forge on your shelf. What did you think of that one? Been on my radar a while now but haven't had a chance to try it yet. Sounds like an interesting concept but have this fear that its gimmick might get old fast so haven't jumped the gun yet

I tried BGA a few times before and it 100% dulls the enjoyment for me, unless it's a purely card based game with no other components and little player interaction like Dominion. Biggest example would be Dungeon Petz. I tried it on BGA first and didn't really enjoy it. Fast forward a few months and I happened on a table with it in front of me. Found it much more enjoyable when I actually interacted with it and the other players. Fast forward a few months more and it's sitting on my shelf and is actually a frequent flier on the table of my regular group. There's just something about the tactile nature of board games and table dynamics that can't be replicated sadly :\

I'd highly recommend playing Carcassonne. A very cool game for both company up to 5 and two players. Simple rules and very replayable. +there are many different expansions for both relaxed play and more chaotic (for example The Princess & The Dragon).

upd. At first, I didn't think I'd like it, but after trying it, it's veeery addictive :)

Special mention to a game I miss dearly and can't find anywhere:
Reiner Knizai's Samurai (1998)

Seems like you're a fan of quick and easy-to-understand games.
In that case I'd recommend

  1. Dixit - a lot of fun with friends, literally 1min rule explanation.
  2. "Bang" - is a mafia-like game with a little twist that it uses cards as actions to perform.
  3. As mentioned by others "Codenames" - solid and easy to pick up.
  4. jungle speed is fantastic as a party game, though I'd recommend to find the one with the rubber or plastic totem, because it gets brutal at times when people are trying to reach it at the same time and they have to start fighting who gets it :D
I feel like if I played with a wooden one I would've lost a few teeth along with my friends fighting over this totem :D

If you're trying to discover something new and a bit harder I'd recommend:

  1. "Dune:Imperium" is my favorite board game. Around 1-2h long game for 3-4 players (also has a 1-2p modes, but they're not as good, I would recommend 3-4p if you ever try this game)
The expansions are not necessary in this one, but they do add a lot of new stuff and mechanics
  1. Root is a lot of fun, played it on steam, but if there's at least one player who's already familiar with the game it becomes one-sided very quickly, I feel like dune doesn't have this problem and new players also have a chance in winning. So I'd recommend Root only if all the players are new to it, and the group you're gonna play with stays the same.

  2. My entry point to bigger boardgames after "monopoly" was "Game of Thrones" which is HUUUUUUUGE, and takes a lot of time to understand what's going on, but had a great group of people and I had my fun strategizing and after realising I can't win making my goal for the game to vengeance myself by destroying the players who ambushed me. Great game, but takes a lot of time and commitment.

  3. Arkham Horror can be fun, and due to deckbuilding possibilities replayability is there, each "expansion" or whatever they're called has around 6-8 scenarios in them, so you'll have a good 12-20h of fun with a group of friends Each expansion adds a ton of stuff like deckbuilding options, characters you can play as and obviously scenarios. The deckbuilding part can be mixed together with other expansion unless it says otherwise in a specific scenario
