Hey there, I am recently itching for a horde shooter/survivors-like/bullet heaven/however you call it. Basically, if a lot of stuff around me explodes, that's good. But the actual Vampire Survivors bores me - it feels mechanically shallow, with no interesting synergies or mechanics to learn and exploit. I wish for something scratching a similar itch, but also deeper and having more mechanics beyond "weapons hit stuff". It would also be cool if the meta-progression systems focused more on variety and less on power, or in general were more imaginative than a singular metacurrency to grind. I did play 20 Minutes Till Dawn on mobile, which was decent, although it also kind of lacked variety. But it felt closer to what I want, I guess. I also tried Brotato, but at least the free version on mobile felt bad - maybe paid is better. Bonus points if you know some more niche ones, like below 5k reviews on Steam - I guess I heard of the more popular ones. And it doesn;t have to be a horde shooter strictly, I just want stuff to explode and my character to feel powerful.

Two giveaways for your troubles: one and two

It's not perfect, but the addition of unique character skills does make a difference, thanks!

Disfigure

I liked it better than VS for the non-automated gameplay. I don't know if it will 100% scratch your itch, but given it's free, you don't have much to lose to try. :)

These games are meant to be simple, mindless games.

Boneraiser Minions was probably my favourite so far.

But I don't like them exactly this way, and I suppose there are others too

Noxious Weeds is in development by fellow SG users, and it's really unique and goofy! Demo available on Steam here:

And here's their old SG discussion thread about the game, their Discord server, etc.:

This is less of a shooter atm as most of the classes are Melee currently(early access so more likely to get added later), technically not even buyable yet but streamers have access if you want to see game play.

from what I have watched it feels like a mix up of Vampire Survivors, Hades and Diablo.

Probably not what you're looking for, but if you love horde mode, complex mechanics, stuff exploding and powerful characters, maybe branch out into 3d horde mode - like Warframe. Scratches a lot of those itches.

That also sounds fun, but maybe not Warframe (due to the MMO-ish baggage this game has). But if you know any single-player games like that, particularly with more condensed progress, I'd be in!

Got one for you - Vermintide 2. Almost suggested it before. Way more condensed and you can play it solo/private with bots - and the nice part about that is the bots are actually the other 3 playable characters so you can level them and improve their skills/equipment and those improvements carry over to when you use them as bots. It is fun to play it with a friend or 2 - but I have played it both ways and it's still fun either way.
As for Warframe - you can pretty much bypass all the multiplayer and go solo playing closed missions. It's not mmo - just hubs and guilds that are easy to avoid most of the time. That's how I played it (I hate pugs and guilds) either with a friend or solo. It's an amazing game and free so you've got nothing to lose. The learning curve can be a bit steep at first - but you seem like someone who might enjoy the challenge.
Oh, and the parkour in this game and the way it synergizes with battle is jaw-dropping.
