[Buy] These Build-a-Bundle deals are my Wallet's Curse. This one in particular has many things to choose from.
[Have] I'm not even RAGE-ing any more when I see that I already own most of the featured games.
[Skip] There aren't enough interesting titles Before My Eyes to warrant a purchase.
[Expensive] If only I could, I would Kill this expensive price With Fire.
[Potato] How come that Fanatical managed to secure Encodya Steam keys and Humble Bundle didn't?

over priced as normal - i just don't understand why or how anyone can buy this when choices is around the corner

Tempted to buy this one, I have 6 wishlisted and mostly unbundled...

The two Shantae games alone are priced as this whole bundle, the one from 2015 hasn't been below 10€ on Steam. So for me this is anything but overpriced considering how much some games go for on sales.

Actually decent selection of games, but its just too expensive. I got a feeling you could buy most of them in next Choice for a price of 3 games.

Shame that the Dishonored is not the definitive edition. I'm interested in Shantae games, Mighty Switch Force Collection and Everspace, but not at this price so it'll be a pass for me.
Lets hope the upcoming choice won't disappoint.

Kinda pricy for the games I want...

Also I know nothing about the gaming industry, but it's kinda weird to me (as somebody who is not "in" on all the going-ons) that Encodya could only provide GOG keys for Humble Choice for reasons "outside of their control" as they themselves said, but here they are giving Steam keys no problem...

Reading the small handful of comments from the developer; it does sound like it might be Humble Bundles decision and not theirs. Although nothing explicity says that.

Hey guys,
We don't have to go through this each time one key shop offers a bundle with one of our games.

We already mentioned everything we can say in this thread: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1137450/discussions/0/3051737278927935363/?ctp=6#c3046108141464049992

Furthermore, this is the Steam discussions, not the discussions from any other page.

Thanks for your understanding.

Cheers"

Gotta love them. I am not buying any game from that developer, ever.

they closed the thread pointing that out pretty fast, yeah.

I mean, it's not a big deal for me, I use GOG as well as Steam, but this just seems kinda suspicious. But hey, maybe there really were reasons "beyond their control" as they say, but I have my doubts, too, like the people in the thread.

okay edit: Golwar explains the situation in a comment below, it seems plausible enough for me to be satisfied with the answer. I was personally not affected much (since as I said I use GOG), so I will give them the benefit of the doubt or just accept what Golwar explained as the right answer to my question

I wouldn't count on it. It was a deliberate ploy.

There is a big difference between Choice bundles and Fanatical's Build Your Own bundles.
For Choice they have to offer a key to absolutely EVERYONE purchasing the bundle.
For this bundle though, they have the option to sell a specific amount of copies and then declare that they ran out of keys. Which is compatible with my theory that Steam limited their number of Steam keys too much to satisfy the demand for Choice.

So no, we won't see Encodya Steam keys from Choice. And neither Humble nor the dev are to blame.

Thanks for this explanation Golwar, it gave me insight I previously lacked. (although I do wonder - could the dev/publisher not just say this in their explanation in the Steam discussion thread instead of saying "reasons beyond our control"? Is that like bad-mouthing Steam, so they could not say this outright? This might have affected how people view the dev/publisher, and if it's really Steam who sets the rules for selling keys on other stores, the dev/publisher got all this heat for nothing)

I honestly don't know why they communicate this way. Perhaps most of them don't know about such restrictions and those who do know, have business reasons why it's more beneficial for them to remain silent.

What we do know though is that there are limitations, just not any details about how restrictive they actually are. But these restrictions have been mentioned when the Humble funders sued Steam in recent months

It feels like with every bundle the prices for regions that don't use USD get more and more unfair in comparison...

I not sure what drugs you people are on saying this bundle is too expensive. I can only speak for Australian dollars but I just paid A$22 for 5 games on my wishlist.

According to GGdeals lowest current individual price for each game...and I'm talking cheapest of dodgy grey market prices here not even official licensed key stores.

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Ultimate Edition - A$9.67
CHANGE: A Homeless Survival Experience - $16.93
BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION - A$10.04
Before Your Eyes - A$10.12
ENCODYA - A$16.13
Total - A$62.89

I paid A$22...that's A$4.40 per game! In what universe is that too expensive compared to the ABSOLUTE CHEAPEST prices currently available online even having to go to a grey market site to purchase them coming to a total of A$62.89. A$20 would just about buy you a large meal combo and a dessert at McDonalds here...it's fuck all. xD

Well, good for you then?

Already bundled games obviously have been available for a better price. The unbundled games are limited and have a rather limited general appeal.
I only have one wishlisted game in this bundle and 10€ for that game plus another two I'm not interested in, isn't what I consider a good deal. Especially as I could get that wishlisted game for 9€. It's full price, without any discount.

Fair enough. If there is only one title you want it's not worth it...I figured you'd only be considering this bundle if there were at least 2 out the 3 games you were after. Thought that would be a given. For me it was worth it and represented good value for money, sorry it wasn't the case for you. Also I'm a game trader as well as collector so I can often obtain games I do want by trading the games I don't with a lot of these deals so it pays off in the long run even if I'm not particularly interested in some of the choices myself..

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

True, if you actually want these games it's a pretty decent deal.
But SG is a rather special place. Most people here hoard what they are interested in and the rest is for giveaways. In this specific context most people end up considering these bundles too expensive.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Sure I guess. I just add a third layer to that:

Hoard the games I want
Trade what is worth trading for other games I want to hoard
Giveaway what remains

A better, more efficient system for acquiring games you actually want and increasing your collection in my opinion but each to there own πŸ‘

Your cheapest dodgy grey market prices seem to be a bit off (ex: ~6.14 AUD for Encodya, with IDK what other extra fees on G2A added on top, or Beautiful Desolation also being a bit cheaper on Kinguin with a coupon), but yes, if you really need "not yet bundled but neither new" games these aren't wrong.

However, for us typical "crap for the backlog we'll never play anyway" buyers, the $3.33 are still quite a bit of money, if you consider that a regular bundle game will cost in the $0.40 to $0.8 range per key and how cheap people are getting pretty much high quality games from Humble Choice.

When I was your age, I could get a pretty nice burger from BK for A$4. To me it seems prices are up and quality is down, so I just don't go to burger chains anymore.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Not sure where you got Encodya for A$6.14 from. I've just gone back on GG and it's telling me $16.13 from Kinguin is the cheapest. Are you sure you're looking at Steam as the DRM cuz those GOG ones are dirt cheap? Coupon is nullified by the extra purchase fee's so that doesn't count either. My point with the grey prices was saying the risk and hidden fee's make them LESS desirable AND more expensive.

As for regular bundle prices...the quality of games are usually a lot less seeing as most of the time it's just recycled trash with little to no market value so no wonder they go for peanuts. If you're a regular Humble subscriber you know they went to shit the day IGN acquired them most of the time the headliner is a game I already own and the rest are "crap for the backlog we'll never play anyway". At least this bundle had some different stuff from my wishlist in it so I'm happy. Plus the moment a game goes into the humble choice it's instantly devalued..goes for trading and GA's.
I've had half of those titles on regular price watch for a while and all my purchases made under this current bundle are at an historical low ..since I've been collecting anyway.

Lol'd at the "When I was your age" bit. I'm probably a fair bit older than you are, not that that matters. I'd not put that hormone enriched, nutrition baron poison in my body if you paid me I was just pointing out it's the price of a cheap takeaway...hardly a bank breaker!

P.S. If $20 is a bank breaker for anyone out there...you're in big trouble. Stop buying discounted games and go pay your bills for F's sake. 😁

Humble Choice games have "no market value" because they seem to have a six digit amount of subscribers, meaning supply vastly exceeds demand for the majority of games.

Good as a deal, bad as a bundle - if you like a single game, it's likely cheaper on sale than paying the 10€. Also the same price is likely a lot lower than you, compared to everyday living prices, than it is to me, living in Eastern Europe and paying full euro price. And some countries have it even worse. Idk, it's a complex situation, but seems like I could buy 10 hot apple pies instead of getting the 3 games. (Or eat 4 lunches at work, cook for likely double of that, or watch 2 movies in the cinema,
And, of course, it looks expensive compared to normal bundles or a monthly.

Personally I agree with you that it is a good deal for you, even for me, but as Fanatical lacks regional pricing, it may be still over 100% steam price.
