One thing to mention as it may apply to you is that you want to keep your old game systems and games in good condition. These things often become valuable to collectors. The old ATARI 2600 VCS, for example, was worth quite a bit of money before they began manufacturing them, again.

I have lots of Gamestar CDs from late '90s and early 2000s. And I see lots of games here, as a giveaway, like Gorky 17, which I have in CD. So my guestion is: Can I activate them in steam? Or they don't have an activation code like that? (I guess not, but I would give away them.)
