  4. If you're going to buy the games, please note that the prices (w/ discount) in the Origin launcher is still cheaper, and they still need Origin as a 3rd party launcher as well. Also, maybe look here and in the comments for more info about pricing.

Surprised they haven't announced Sims 5, since if you think of it Sims 4 is like what 6+ years old? But I guess they want to capitalize on all that money they got.

But I always remember people were yelling about the prices of CK2 DLC which pales in comparison to this (I think it was like maybe 200ish not on sale) but most of the must have DLCs you can easily get for 5$.

But I think EA never went that cheap on the Sims, cheapest you could have gotten the expansions were maybe half off (so 20/30 for it)?

Indeed, they only ever had good sales >50% (or in the case of the Sims 4 a limited time "free" offer) on their base games. DLC has always been their cash-grab, only they've been consistently increasing the prices and reducing the content at the same time.

Sims 3 had the average price of The sims 4 DLC both for Xpacks and Stuff packs but the content still justified its price. And it still remains quite an expensive bundle to get out of sales season (over 300€). Sims 4 just got plain ridiculous with the cookie-cutter business and the overpricing. For me personally it's the modding community keeping the Sims 4 alive.

As far as Sims 5 is concerned I'm guessing they will be trying to delay that as much as possible at this time, since Paralives has started to get quite a bit of support (from myself included) after their latest reveals, and prepared the ground for legitimate competition in the Life Simulation genre.

I am not sure what the point of this is, I have most if not all of my EA games on origin since figured (same with uplay) why buy on steam when you need the respected clients any ways. I am not going to re buy all the games I own, just to have them as a +1 in my steam library but maybe some newer EA released then maybe I might not sure.

Plus (at least with uplay, not sure on origin) I think you might get better deals or more chances for deals on the other clients then steam (besides the main steam sales?)

Is it just me or are they all so overpriced compared to previous deals on Origin games on Origin itself and on Amazon?

And I also own some of them on Origin but there is no way to transfer them so it means buying twice...

That's part of their plan for more people to buy through Origin. It's just like Ubisoft games, they are usually cheaper on Uplay than on Steam (Probably due to Steam's cut)

Nice! Now if we could only get cross platform ownership rights.
I mean, EA did do that with a lot of their games that were on Steam, giving keys to redeem on Origin.
Would be oddly sweet for the opposite direction to happen.

When did they do that? Can I get Origin keys now?

Haven't checked in years, but used to be you could find them in the game properties from the steam client library.

EA isn't that generous, many of us have a lot of games in our Origin library.
Since I already unlocked most of those achievements on Origin I'm thinking of subscriping to EA Play when it launches to reunlock them on Steam.

Permalink

EA did it that way in an attempt to push players through to Origin as once a user is there they're more likely to then spend money.

Wish some other games I have would have got them too like Dead Space 1 & 2, Mass Effect 1 & 2, and Medal of Honor to name a few. Still cool for the ones that did get tham added though. I can always hope. lol

Those don't have achievements on Origin.
Sims 4 & Crysis 3 are among the titles recently returned to Steam but since they don't have Origin achievements they didn't get Steam achievements.

I guess implementing Origin achievements into Steam achievements doesn't require much work as doing it for older games with no Origin achievements.
Who knows maybe one day they might but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I know that as I do own them all on both platforms. I was just saying I would have been nice to get them for those games. I know the console versions have achievements but it might be to much of a hassle for EA to get them implemented. Like you replied to Kratos below, who knows maybe we'll get them one day. At least what they did so far was a nice gesture and start.

Older games that already have been on Steam should also be part of it, Mass Effect 1&2 / Dead Space 1&2 / Older NFS games .. etc

Unless you are talking about the 3rd party games that don't belong to EA that are included in Origin Access Basic .. yeah no way their devs would agree to make them part of EA Play on Steam .. that would kill their revenue.

Saboteur maybe, as they have the GOG DRM free version that they can use. Syndicate...it has a copy-protection problem (the game was protected by SecuROM online protection and it seems that the authentication servers are going down, other games being afected: LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth 2, some NFS games (Pro Street, Shift, Shft2, NFS Hot Pursuit 2010), Alice and a few others.

The licensed games won't make a comeback any time soon.

For the old NFS games there is a major problem with the licensed content, with many of the companies that were showcased in NFSU, NFSU2, Carbon, Undercover, Most Wanted 2004 being gone, so EA even if they've wanted they could not bring those back. Same situation for the sports titles: the licenses were granted for a set period of time, plus it wouldn't be profitable to bring back sports games from 10-20 years ago

Lords of the Rings, Harry Potter, James Bond games - the licenses expired. The first two are now with Warner (Daedalic was granted a limited license, too, recently, for LOTR) and the last one, after being held by Activision for some time, now is with IO Interactive.

Basically, any game that was made under a license, won't be back any time soon. The games where EA owns the license, might come back, if EA decides to release those on GOG (so GOG would work their magic and remove all the s..ty protections and make them compatible with the modern OS. But it's been ages since EA brought something new on GOG.

Maybe with the recent shift in marketing, the old games (the ones that EA actually owns completely), will come back on both GOG and Steam. Will see.

Ain't copyright and DRM, fun?!
