GOG stated they were going to get AAA games soon. Today Dying Light: The Following - Enhanced Edition became available DRM-Free! :D This also introduces Techland as a publisher there, so hopefully some other great classics make their appearance.

A few notes:

  • It appears multiplayer is only through GOG Galaxy, so no playing with owners of the Steam version.
  • It also appears there's no listed Linux support. This may be a forgotten tag for now or else coming later since it's available for Linux with Steam.

Same, the only time I look for a DRM Free version is if it's not on steam, or has some obtrusive 3rd party DRM. I barely can call steam DRM, since it's running all the time anyway for me lol

Same for me. Plus the steam ingame hub is useful for quick internet access or games that get messed up playing in borderless windows.

You know the meaning of DRM-free?

I prefer steam over drm free any day of the week. With steam all of my games are neat and organized and I can add and remove them with the click of a button. With DRM i had a clutter desktop annoying reinstallations if something went wrong and didnt feel any different than a pirate. After all none of the money i spent went to the dev.

I buy a physical copy of Doom 3 off of Ebay. All money goes to the seller. None to Id. I buy a steam copy of doom 3 off of steam 2/3rds of the money i spent goes to Id. I like Id so I will support them.

If you buy used then the original buyer already paid a fair share for Id, but still, two people using it with Id paid only once.
If you buy it brand new, then there's basically no difference. DRM-free or Steam makes no difference in supporting the creators of a game, buying new or used does.

If i buy a copy of CoD:WaW (the last drm free CoD) for $10 treyarch gets less than they would if i bought it from steam. Walmart buys them in bulk from treyarch for a lower price and my money doesnt go directly to them.

treyarch sells for a lower price to walmart because it's good for their business.
selling for less doesn't mean gain less

True. Since steam does take a third of the profits. But then again. My money doesnt go to them if i wish to support them.

You can lead a gamer to DRM-free, but you can't make him drink it... :-(

Reasons why i prefer steam over gog:

My friends are on steam and not gog
Steam is way cuter and organized
and most important i have a shiton of games on steam already so i wont be changing plataforms any time soon

Tho is good to see gog taking a steap forward and to see drm free AAA games

I much prefer buying from GOG. Much prefer the way they do business, so much more honest and sneaky compared to Steam. They're all about the gamers

I love GOG, but love isn't enough to make me buy a zombie survival game :p
