Super MNC is the only one I ever liked, no one really gets angry at noobs at all, actually most people are helpful and will tell you what to do if you are lost/confused. Problem is that its almost dead, usually max 200 players...150 usually though and no one plays the actual mode that resembles a MOBA correctly.
The rest all seem to have a community of people with sticks shoved far up the poopers.

I haven't been on in a few months, but it was the best one I've played so far. Sad to hear it isn't doing well. People should look into it if they are better at shooters than rts micro.

Eh, people do complain about new players especially if they pick commandos but I will say no one will give you major crap about it especially if you're trying to honestly learn.
But for me, I just find SMNC more fun than DOTA just because of the viewpoint and style of the game. I wish it had done better.

I am honestly confused about why its not as popular as LoL or Dota2....
People complained about matchmaking but in all honesty if there was 400-500 players on I got in a match within 30 seconds.

I'm not sure but I guess it is something about the middle of the road presentation that actually doesn't appeal to people.
The pure shooter crowd might not be pleased with how long it takes to kill people and may wish to ignore bots entirely.
While the DOTA/LoL people probably like seeing more of the field and less of the characters or something so they can plan moves better. They also probably prefer the slower pace so things that can speed up matches like the annihilator or turret cheesing annoys them.

This is what I came here to say. Except Awesomenauts was disappointing, too.

I'm a newb to the genre myself, aside from a few MNC matches on the 360. I've got DOTA 2 installed, but have been too much of a wuss to boot it up. Awesomenauts however I have played, and I have to say I enjoyed the couple of matches I played. It wasn't really overwhelming, not like I expected anyway.

Btw if you want to start with DotA 2 maybe read this: DotA 2 Diary of a Newb
Its quite a long (3 parts i think) but really nicely written blog.

More like MO/b/A community. The games are fun, though. Stick with friends, or ignore chat completely.

I feel like I'm missing out on a whole genre of gaming by not playing any of them, however what I've read about the communities of these sorts of games has kept me from giving any of them a fair go. Can anyone recommend either a single player game in the genre to get acquainted with the rules, or a multiplayer one which is somewhat noob friendly?
