I've just won a game on SteamCompanion and decided to give it away on here: http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/F8z0p/tea-party-simulator-2015
When I went back to SC, it said that I had been banned for not redeeming the game I won. I'm wondering how do they know that I didn't redeem the game, as my giveaway hasn't ended yet.

the same way we know here...seriously activate those wins if you don't want to get banned on both sites

I checked what games you have and you don't have Tea Party Simulator in your steam library. Pretty sure that means you didn't redeem it.

I guess that's what SteamCompanion guys did - went to your public profile and seen you don't have game in library.

You know, pretty sure same thing SteamGifts will do with your Borderlands. And your Terraria. And maybe Dwarfs (not sure if that one, having F2P version, appears in library).

Anyone can check your Steam profile to see whether the game in question shows up in your library: http://steamcommunity.com/id/chickengo/games/?tab=all

I'm not sure giving it away on here was the wisest idea. :)

But I can hide the game from my library if I want, right?

Nobody asks you to be smartass, so no game = ban in SC; and here. So that's how it is :S

Also what VyleKillius said.

Partly, but it only puts the game into the "hidden" category, merely hiding it from yourself on the library window. It would still show up to everyone (including yourself) on the page I linked.

Hiding a game from your library only affects the library section of your client. It doesn't affect your account.

No you can't, we'll see it anyway.

Yes you can hide the game, but that just means it's not visible to "you" or other users.
The API and xml calls can still request the full list, and thus see whether you activated a game or not.

Simply put, if you want to be unbanned youll have to activate the game or buy another copy.

Good that you openly state here that you're a regifter, so we might put you on our blacklists as well.

If you bothered to read the rules both on SC and here you would already know that.

You should only enter to win giveaways for yourself, and if you win a game, it must be activated and redeemed to the Steam account used during registration. If a friend is interesting in joining giveaways, they'll need to register for their own account.

You can read that in the FAQ (highly recommended).

You shouldn't need rules or bans to tell you that.

Ha-ha! It was when I saw a bunch of Tea Party Simulator giveaways appearing here (right after a 1000x giveaway of those was finished on SC) I knew the Banhanmmer is to wake up soon.

You can't win during you suspension period, but you can win once it is over.

Thats just unlucky.
If you can enter giveaways you can win them.
A prior ban doesnt affect chances on winning.

I see you haven't activated some games you won on steamgifts too. Namely Borderlands, Terraria and Dwarfs.

Did you regift them on steam companion too?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Activated Borderlands now, as I've completely forgotten about it.
Terraria yes, I did trade it for something else.
I neither re-gifted nor activated Dwarfs.

The best thing to do would be deleting the giveaway and activating the game on your account.

Doing it now

But Tea Party Sim is not the first game you regift... there are 5 or 6 more games you won in steamcompanion and you don't have in your Steam account so i think banhammer is ...

Steamcompanion rule 9 : You must redeem the game on the account you entered with. Do not trade it, or sell it to others.

I must say you are handling the thing pretty good.
Why did you feel need to give away won games in first place? don't you find it disrespectful towards the g/a creator?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

it would be wise to buy those games you won and activate them in your account... they aren't expensive and having not-activated games in your account makes you look bad here.
