Oh, I actually put it in the correct category this time, i.e. FREE STUFF INSIDE, CLICK HERE. You're welcome. :)

There's another puzzle added, so look around for it. It's in here somewhere... Umm, try reading or something. That link you didn't click on yet? Yeah, it's probably that one.

Hey, the weekend's coming. And I have no plans, but after reading the amazing topic I couldn't resist throwing some money away on random Level 5 humans to celebrate. Yay! :) You can imagine I pasted a bunch of celebration-related gifs in here, because I'm too lazy to hunt them up. Hooray for imagination! :)

Sorry, it's just a few cheap ones, because I'm cheap too. Oh well. And lately, Level 5 costs like $1 at Bundle Stars, so if that's too high, just spend a buck and go create a hundred crappy bundle junk giveaways, there's bound to be a few people who didn't buy all that stuff yet... :)

Obligatory Skyrim Rap: Gods be praised

Obligatory difficult anti-bot puzzle

OBLIGATORY MORE FREE STUFF protected by an even more difficult puzzle

Super-obligatory hint because some idiot set the hint timer wrong: COPY AND PASTE, PEOPLE! Sorry! :)

Good luck, humans! :)

Be sure to bump this when you solve the puzzle. Or umm, ok I don't care if it gets bumped. And bumps just reduce your chances, and we don't want that, do we? Let's just hope it dies in a couple hours.

Good luck, human! :)

So, as you're a human, you can read this dumb question which is probably just an excuse for me to bump the topic after people forget about it:

What do you think about the replacement for greenlight, Steam Direct? All I can think of is reductio ad absurdum, i.e. Valve's anti-curation taken to its logical conclusion. Soon the Steam store will contain 1000 real games, buried under a million pieces of game-shaped garbage. Good luck finding anything you'd ever want to play. No shortage of +1s for the game-collecting lunatics, though... :)

p.s. I was going to make a Skyrim giveaway, but the store's been saying Processing Payment for the last 15 minutes so never mind. Hopefully I will remember to check that tab next week or something... Sorry gang... :)

Cool, this anti-bot stuff is easier than I expected. Just hide all the enter giveaway buttons behind a puzzle, problem solved! :)

Both is shit. greenlight + steam direct.

The fact that there's a Fidget Spinner Simulator on Steam answers your question on Steam Direct. Greenlight was a broken system because Valve was too lazy to curate anything there, hence blaming the users for it. Steam Direct is just a cash-grabber.

I think it's funny how Valve finally noticed Greenlight was broken, and in response managed to create a replacement that was even more broken...

Is there some metric whereby Steam Direct is an improvement? Hmm, amount of work required by Valve decreased. I guess that works.

I spent A LOT of time in the forums when they announced their plans for Direct. It turned out that every single point I predicted became true. Instead of fixing the voting system so it could act like an actual curation system, Valve just removed it and replaced for a one time fee.

There was so many things they could do to make Greenlight reliable, like stop providing the zillion keys a dev can request, thus ending both the vote-for-a-key system AND the Greenlight bundles (hey, I paid like 50 cents for 6 games and now I want my cards, so let's vote the shit out of them!).

Acording to Alden, Direct features an improved quality check on submissions, but so far I've seen only EXTREMELY crap coming out. Again, this is a system that allows not only a 'game' like Fidget Spinner Simulator to feature in the store ranked as a 'Mostly Positive' but also lets devs mock the system when displaying this kind of crap on its page.

It's intesting how much new suck can be added to an already sucky system... :)

Hmm, improved quality check as in "does this game suck?" or as in "does it set your pc on fire?" :)

Oh, and there's a new puzzle in the topic with more stuff inside... :)

Permalink

thx for the heads up. I guess I'm kinda slow (or lazy), didn't managed to solve the second puzzle.

But yes, Direct is just a worse Greenlight. And they don't realize (or choose not to) that the $100 recoupable fee just feeds the never ending circle of junk on the store. You pay the $100 fee, publish some shovelware, make (ok, a tiny) profit form cards, and wait for the $100 to get back and publish another crap.

I used to pay attention to the 'Soon' tab to look for new interesting stuff. Not that there were many interesting stuff back then, but you could spot one or two cool indie games there once in a while. Now is just crap after crap.

Worst thing is that I actually paid for the Greenlight fee a couple of months before they announced its end. But since I was just starting to plan my game, there wasn't time to submit it before the last batch got approved. Got my refund for it, but the whole discussion about it depressed me enough to halt my plans. It's just now that I'm starting to look back at it.

Yeah, all the new stuff appearing on Steam is just noise now, if any real games are hiding in there nobody will ever see them... :(

Ouch, did you lose access to the developer forums or whatever too? Just curious...

Oh, that second puzzle was supposed to have a 60-minute hint timer, but I screwed up and it's 60 hours... So check again, sorry... :)

I didn't had access to dev forums because I never submited anything. I paid the fee so everytime I'd get lazy on my project I'd feel guilty for having paid the fee already lol. I was on a planning stage back then (lots of sketches, mockups, diagrams, sprites and stuff) and when they announced Greenlight I just stopped. Just a few weeks ago I decided to get back to it, so I'm more or less on the same point right now. But hopefully I'll have at least a demo done until the end of the year.

thx, will check the hint!

Ahh, bummer... Let's hope you don't pay a $100 Steam Direct fee the week before they cancel that program, too... :)

Hmm, so buying that greenlight thing allowed people to submit a game, but it didn't give access to anything else until they'd actually submitted something? No fancy Steamworks Developer badge, either? Oh well...

Oops, just realised I forgot to say good luck with your game, so...

Good luck with your game! :)

no, no badge, only if you actually submit something. the fee was a one time access to the submission program. Once you submit something, you get access to all of those.

thx for the wishes!

there are a lot of crappy games on steam now, but seems to be a lot more nice ones showing up hidden among them too. my wishlist has grown to 640 games so far :/
