Virus wouldn't actually be an appropriate term for such a usage (having both overly specialized application and a lack of firmly established metaphorical association for the context [or at least, one I'm aware of or can find via Google]- unlike, for example, the established usage of "viral"), but plague can reasonably be used to cover the range between <species> and <non-organisms> (that despite having more of an organic association than comparable words such as epidemic and contagion), and has an established metaphorical usage.
While there are several elements related to the topic that I find interesting enough to bring up, there's really only one point of real note: That's the fact that viruses, being non-living, require outside elements for reproduction.
Obviously, this would be an ill fit for humans, if one was intending to disparage them, given that their reckless spread is usually as much a point of criticism as their thoughtless destructiveness. In fact, "viral" works so well for memes and similar elements, given the fact that they're non-living and reproduced by outside forces. Applying a similar format to humans would seemingly absolve them of some degree of responsability, implying that they're just helplessly carried around by circumstance.

First off, note that featured Google results for definitions not only vary user to user, but don't necessarily pull from the most reliable sources. Further, I wasn't arguing that virus couldn't be used in the sense of [corrupting influence], I was noting that it didn't fit the usage you applied it to [which was less about passively corrupting/poisoning, and more about actively infesting].

Finally, note that Lexico/Oxford, the source you pulled from, still lists a non-living-element-which-is-spread-by-outside-elements application to the term, thus fitting fully with the structure I introduced within my first post. Cruelity- insomuch as it takes effect as something which is spread person to person- does very much fit the concept associated with viruses. Humans themselves, however, do not, nor does the definition in question explicitly give any indication that they would.
In fact, the only application of "virus" which doesn't fit the format in question would be computer viruses, and that's entirely due to the term having come to misuse. Formally, the encompassing term is "malware", of which viruses are a subcategory, characterized by being unable to spread without user action. [This in contrast to, for example, worms.] However, due to the frequency of "virus" inappropraitely being used in place of "malware" to encompass all malware, rather than just viruses, that has come to be a soft exception to the standard application of the term.
Nevermind that my intention hadn't been to argue against your usage, in the sense of it being "wrong"; Rather, I was merely pointing out that your statement was coming across a bit oddly given that you weren't using a more familiar and/or natural word choice (this in addition to my intention of highlighting taxonomy and vocabulary considerations that I found interesting, of course). Otherwise, I'd have included a "Fixed." statement preceding the "more information" section.
Again, if it wasn't clear, I find language and communication and information in general to be fascinating and meritorious and enjoyable and worthy of being shared. No need to fight, but discuss information like robilar5500 pointed out its very possible that it has natural origins and also could be advanced in a lab. Why not just discuss all the possible info, put on a table and pick your own conclusion.

I also believe Natural origins because wet markets have animals from different continents that naturally don't mix together in the same room stacked together in cages. Zoonotic jump is 100% possible there. Also wet markets have existed for decades in more than just China, which has thousands in itself. If terrorists really exist, why would they not take advantage of natural viruses and spread those? Follow the money and who benefits in the end.

Hospitals are being completely overloaded and unable to keep up with the amount of people who need help, in the worst hit areas they're unable to take proper care of the bodies of those who died. Is that really just business as usual? Is this just something made up? Are all the health care workers in the affected areas just telling lies when they talk about the situation they're in? Because if the virus is fake, and all those people who talk about their experiences dealing with it, then this is one huge global conspiracy that they've managed to get millions of people to participate in spreading
