What do you think will happen to FANATICAL?

They believe that they will have the same problems that humble bundle has been criticized for since it was purchased

Fandom just bought GameSpot, Metacritic, Giant Bomb and more

Ironic how IGN brought price reductions for most regions, finally got new AAA developers on board instead of rehashing the same ones for new games and now have the cheapest sales of all first party sites with the Choice discount, yet they're still considered to be worse somehow. I guess bundle sites basically are supposed to give every game away for a pennies and if they can't manage to have a new game in line every single time, the endless backloggers will reeeee for war.

At least in my country the prices of the store rose, making it one of the most expensive. They put regional restrictions on most of the bundles, some tier 1 are worse, lately I have seen less tier 3 of 12 usd. They made that most of the choice do not have dlc, as for choice many are dissatisfied with the selection of games, I only hope that they do not put more keys of epic games

Oh that does suck then. I thought it was mainly for Russia and Belarus. I know that region locking has been a thing for the bundles since the beginning, but it's not good to hear that it's more frequent.

But as to not having DLCs from Choice bundles, I mean I don't know what to say since it's kind of crazy to want a full game + all DLC for a single dollar (since that's what the developer's cut will inevitably be, though in reality it's less due to 10% to charity and there being some cut for Humble as well).

I guess I'd recommend going to a developer and telling them "You need to put your games up with everything attached for less than a dollar for me right now." to see what they say. Imagine the Hollow Knight dev having to just put like $30 worth of content up for 80 cents or whatever. Or telling the Deep Rock Galactic guys that they're cheapskates for only putting $30 worth of content up for the 85 cents instead of all $100 worth of content.

Now whether you think that's worth it or not is one thing. But it's obvious that when you get stuff for next to nothing, there might be a string attached (like maybe they have the audacity of hoping that you'll buy the $4 DLC for Hollow Knight) or not, like with Horizon Zero Dawn that had the full content attached. I'm starting to understand why it's harder to do bundles when the audience is pissed that the deal that earns them 80% less money than even the steepest of sales is met with disappointment and negativity.

Didn't they buy Fanatical last year?

The Gamefaqs news is heartbreaking though, as that was the last bit of early-internet that I still used to this day, and I'm not optimistic for its future.

I assume that the purchase is barely allowed or completed.

You are wrong, they bought them last year. It even says so in the article you linked.

The wiki company has been on something of an acquisition spree in recent years, starting with ScreenJunkies, they of Honest Trailers renown, in 2018. Gaming wiki creators Curse Media followed in 2019, and Fandom bought games ecommerce site Fanatical last year.

So there is nothing to speculate about what might change.

We can say that we contributed for the purchase of the other sites (assuming that we bought things on Fanatical) :D

Shockingly, they bought all of these by the looks of it for only 50mil$ (all of them at once, not just for one at a time!), at least this is what Google is telling me. Feels strange to me that from all of the people that wanted to buy them, they choose a wiki service. I guess the bundles will also include a MLP fan-fiction when you buy them?

Yeah the linked article mentions Fanatical as having being bought last year, so don't think anything new will happen there. Bundles have been declining for years for any number of reasons, so don't know if the downward shift can be solely placed at the feet of a new owner. Fanatical does still have the occasional good bundle, so can't really complain.

Yeah, the changes to Fanatical pretty much happened already over this past year.

Honest Trailers is still great, and they've been under the Fandom umbrella for a few years now. So that might be a good sign, at least.

Getting Metacritic is HUGE.

I haven't been on Giant Bomb in a bit, but the site looks like night and day to compared to what it was previously, massive improvement. This change was obviously before the purchase, but I can see why they wanted it.

Giantbomb was already dead in the water. When Vinny, Brad and Alex left it was a sinking ship. Then Jeff who started the whole thing also left, RIP.

And they wonder why a lot of critic review averages are so much higher then virtually all other review averages?

Ah right. Not familiar with them because I don't think I've been to any of those consciously but maybe once or twice looking for tips when stuck in a game I guess.
Didn't even occur to me they were a big outfit.

Thanks :)

As someone said above, i doubt it can be worse than rebundle games, in the worst case we might get some games that are not rebundled
