Last 2, maybe 3, days... steam has been weird. What I mean is.
Steam would get that 'busy' effect, you know, turn white and have a big border around the steam application and windows created by steam.
It usually takes 30 seconds upwards of 2 minutes for it to go away.

Just happened to me twice within last hour, and I didn't do anything out of ordinary. (once i was browsing my library >> games, other time i was on a games storepage)

As is steam is doing something.... either serverside,... well if it affects the client in this manner, maybe even client side.

Anyone else?

I've had same symptoms on two different computers recently, but it has only taken a few seconds.

To me it happens when I activate keys.

It wouldn't have anything to do with the weekly maintenance, would it?

Not that. I've been getting it changing pages in the client, it will just lock up for several seconds, been happening multiple times a day.

Tamigotchi. That's the reason and the response for all things.

Lesser words and questions to ask yourself which may provide or lead you to answers that work for you:

  • When was the last time you rebooted?
  • When was the last time you ran the basic "clear steam caches" etc. commands that leave your games intact? (these can be found without too much trouble on Steam's troubleshooting forums)
  • Did you activate a large number of games on your account 2 days ago?
  • Have you run low on free space on the disk where Steam is installed?

It's "stalled" several times when activating keys this week, locking up the client.

Same here for about a week or so now. Not really an issue except when I'm redeeming keys.

Yeah, there is another thread about it as well. It seems to happen to some of us since the last client update (non-beta)

Has steam been acting up last 2 days for anyone else?

Ever since I'm on Steam (2 years) it has always been acting up, every once in a while.
Right now, the desktop client often fails to load tabs, and when I refresh, it can't load pictures properly.

It freezes for about 10 seconds every time I activate a key. Started happening after the last update.

No, but I actually liked a lot your description about the "busy"effect. I had never know how to name it or even describe it, and now on I'm gonnna use it. Thanks.

Just one time it took like an hour to load the store page and I didn't even let it finish. But I went into offline mode and went back on and it worked
