Hey guys,
I want to buy a new computer, because my old one is, you know, old. :D
I live in Serbia, prices here might be higher than the most of the countries.
So which PC should I get for gaming for 500-600€?
I'm thinking about something like:
i5 CPU
8GB RAM
1TB HDD
(I'm not sure in which videocard is good at this price range)

And a giveaway !

Thank you all!

Something with a Geforce GTX 1050 or Radeon RX 460 should be ok for the 500€ PC, GTX 1060 or RX 470 if you want to spend a bit more... but I don´t know about the prices in Serbia.

Go for a 950 but don't expect it to run highest top-notch games like the Witcher 3.

I do have a GTX 850m for my laptop who can run Dark Souls 3 or GTA V at high settings at 30 fps both.

I have GTX 950 and i can run GTA V mostly on 60 fps with settings betweeen High - Ultra, with some things turned off though ( there is ton of options in gta :P). I'm sure you can run Witcher 3 just fine.

I have a 950M and it's coupled with a i7 4720HQ, and it's severely underpowered compared to the CPU. But since it's a PC, and not a laptop, you can just upgrade it when you have enough money.

An i5 is €160-200. With a cheap motherboard, 8 GB RAM, a PSU, and HDD, you'd have about… I don't know… pretty much nothing left for a video card.
If you want a 500-Euro PC, forget Intel. Ir forget i5. Get a cheap i3 or a Pentium.

I haven't been following the latest needs on hardware specs and recommendations. But my guess would be the i5 would do. But I would try to get 16gb ram and you could go for 500gb and a smaller SSD for boot-drive. That's how my setup works. If 500gb isn't enough as a storage disk just add your current one also so you got 1ssd + 2hdd. My current videocard is an nvidia gtx960 oc and I have 0 complaints. If all else fails, wait for the smart peeps on sg to help you out with better recommendations :) tbh 500€ from scratch will be hard.

Perhaps you could get a refurbished office computer (that's used office PCs out of leasing contracts)
and upgrade the video card and maybe the harddrive later on. Over here in Germany, I can buy an i5
with 8GB RAM and a 500 GB harddrive for around 260€ as a refurbished system, It's not the latest
Skylake Core i5 processor, but it's not compelely bad either and you'd have enough money left for
for a decent GPU.

If you're building on a budget, an i5 isn't going to happen if you want a decent gpu (and the gpu is more important for gaming). You'd be better off getting something like a Pentium G3258 or Pentium G4500 depending on the mobo socket type you go with (stick with 1150 if you don't use windows 10), and focus on a better gpu. Then just upgrade the cpu to an i5 when you can. In case you're curious too, my advice is not to even consider an i3, the performance difference compared to budget cpu's is almost nothing, while requiring you to often pay double the price.

I just made a quick and dirty build on www.pcpartpicker.com, for about 635 USD (600 euros). http://pcpartpicker.com/list/tXx6qk
Prices will definitely differ depending on brands, availability, etc.

For 500 euros, you will most definitely have to make sacrifices, in either CPU, graphics, or storage.

You should be able to play at least medium options on a 1080 monitor as per: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gpus,4380.html But I would suggest you ask someone with a GTX 950 since I don't.
Also, I'll note here that I didn't notice the case was not verified as compatible with the CPU cooler in the above link. Found a better one here: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/NTXvqk

On that site, the 600w psu i chose was actually the cheapest one for that brand. Just like I noted above about everyone having different things they won't compromise on, I won't skimp on a PSU by getting a low quality one and run the risk of burning out the other components.

As I stated in my original post, this was a "quick and dirty build" suggestion I put together. I never intended the OP to rush out and purchase the exact build, and I even noted that prices would probably vary, thus I was implying that if the OP needed to tweak various options, they should feel free to do so.

I also told the OP that everyone will have their own opinions on what makes a good build, and they shouldn't hesitate to ask for them. Just to let you know right now, I'm not trying to sway your opinion on anything. I'm merely trying to explain the reasons behind my own choices since you questioned them. Further on that is below:

But what does compromising have anything to do with that?
After all OP is on a tight budget and could cut some substantial corners without any real sacrifice.

Believe me, if there had been a 400 watt Corsair PSU listed, I would have chosen that instead because I already knew 400 watts would have gotten the job done (the website shows the estimated power draw at 246 watts at the top of the page). Like I said before, the Corsair CX600 was the cheapest Corsair PSU between 400 and 600 watts listed on that website, so therefore I chose it instead.

As I stated earlier, different people will be willing to compromise on some things but not on others. It just so happens that I'm not willing to compromise on PSU quality because I don't want to risk burning out my other components. I chose Corsair over the other brands because Corsair is a reasonably reputable brand, and thus I reasoned that the likelihood that their chosen manufacturers would cut corners on build quality would be less likely compared to some of the other brands. And yes, the actual manufacturer behind the brand can differ (and make a difference in quality) as per http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-supply-oem-manufacturer,2913.html.
Disclaimer: Since this build suggestion was something I quickly threw together, I did not attempt to determine the actual manufacturers behind all of the cheap PSUs (up to the one I actually chose) in the list I was using.

As for your other points on SSD and optical drive, I have taken those into consideration now.

So instead of a 256GB SSD and a 1TB HDD, I have chosen just a single 2TB HDD.
And I had included an optical drive because the OP did not specify if his old computer was a laptop (in which case, the optical drive would not work in the desktop build) or a desktop. Nor did the OP specify exactly how old the current computer is, thus there wouldn't be a way to know if the optical drive was IDE/PATA or SATA. And yes, I do realize that some PSUs still have IDE connectors (or failing that, IDE-to-SATA adapters can be used), but once again, this was a quick build suggestion I made so I decided to just choose to include a DVD writer instead. Also, DVD writers are extremely cheap these days. The one I chose was the cheapest in the list at less than $15USD. If the OP does not need the optical drive, then there's no problem to just simply subtract that amount.

Here is the re-revised build suggestion coming in at $568USD (536 euros): http://pcpartpicker.com/list/VC3RgL
If the OP wants to exclude the optical drive, the total comes in at $553USD (522 euros).

If you're going to be using it for games, you want at least a Geforce 1050ti. You can save some money by going with an i3-6100 CPU (it wont be great for multitasking, but should be fine for most games).

You should be able to get it with i3-6100 (which is pretty good, sure a i5 6500 would be better but the i3 should still run most of the games on high). I have a build plan with i5 6500, GTX 1060 and the final price comes to about 700-750 (without monitor and ssd as I already have those). 1050ti is about 100 eur cheaper than 1060 and the i3 is about 90 eur cheaper than i5 (using http://www.mindfactory.de/ for the price comparing not sure if it's a reliable source of information) that should bring it down to the 500-600 eur range.

Prices i see on internet :
GTX 950 : Lowest : 140 euros
GTX 1050 : Lowest : 135 euros

And the 1050 is much more powerful.
You should consider buying a GTX 1050.
(I'm not talking about a Ti)

For the processor I would recommend an i3 if you're short on money, because pentium is total shit.
Or just save for an i5 for best performances.

I tested pentium, i3, i5 and i7 on same graphics cards :
Pentium is total shit, i3 is already quite good, but you'll need a good graphics card (a 1050 will be good), i5 is very, very good, and i7 is perfect but overpriced.

for playing games you dont need nothing higher than an i5 6400.

motherboard look for a decent one with the chipset Intel B150, that chipset has everything youll ever need.

and for the graphics card, check the prices for the RX480 or RX470, the first one beats the 1060 and 970 and the second one beats the 1050 Ti.

if they both are too expensive, then try yo find a R9 280 or 380, they should go cheaper, and they both beat things like the 950 and even the 960.

RAM speed and brand make little difference so get whatever is cheaper.

just an example: the cheapest 1050ti in your shop is about 265€. Same card in germany: 185€.

You want to play aaa games on mid/high and that is even hard in germany to buy for 500€. In Serbia... Like someone said above. I5, Memory and storage and you have nearly nothing left for the gpu

Yeah, any country compared to Germany or the US is expensive, but Serbia is quite a bit more.
Only way I can go below 73.000 din while staying mostly current generation is with an old graphics card. (many " old" cards are of the same architecture as the newer ones, AMD for example has just been rebranding old stuff with slight improvements)

Is importing an option? (depends on the fees and tax your government adds to imports)
I was able to grab a 280 on the cheap from the US without paying any duties/tax.
