As an achievement hunter, I find it enjoyable to hunt for achievements. It bothers me when the game bugs out when playing it on the hardest difficulty and does not save the game and screws you completely. So I downloaded SAM to give me my achievements but I feel a little dirty doing so. Was I wrong to do so?

A lil bit, but it can get a pass if it's a glitched achievement :)

Happened to me twice: mirror's edge and Deus ex:hr, pacifist run and the achievement didn't pop in both games :p
I usually don't care about steam achievements due to existance of SAM. :3

It just bothered me that after playing it on the game on the hardest difficulty, dying all the time, than getting to the end without the game saving and losing all achievement progress

It sucked because I played the game without steam overlay to increase preformance because my pc is low end(hoping to upgrade soon) and when I finished, nothing was unlocked.

Later you will not know, what games you finished and what games you finished with this hack tool....

Btw I do not care about Steam achievements, I care just a bit on Playstation achievements, where it is not possible to hack...

Imo, it's important to not use "cheats", however screwed up the case may be.

Achievements are one of the most stupid features of todays gaming. The only reason that explain their existance is forced replay value.

I think they useless and very overpriced by 'gameing community'. However I think I might understand doing 100% on your favourite game. Not as a target itself but as a nice bonus when you play your favourite game for the fifth time. And here I go to answer - in general: NO. This is worthless piece of digital data, that never really meaned anything, and today means even less thanks to SAM. As a part of experiencing favourite game - well it depends. If you do it for yourself, you should be honest with yourself. If this really bugs you that much, I think you should delete this achievement and try to do this one more time.

P.S. Hope you will understand, english is my second language.

Example, while playing Shadow Warrior I had the most stupid chain of problems.
I got the achievement kill 10 enemies in 1 shot on insane difficulty, but for some reason it didn't unlock on steam because my internet was wonky and it didn't go through. Since I had a few seconds of "offline" play, my profile changed to offline instead of a steam profile.
I couldn't get achievements anymore for steam, so I talked to the developers and they suggested I backup my profile, delete it in-game, make a new in-game steam profile and replace the files.
That worked, but now I lost all "secret" achievements and "max upgrade" achievements effectively UNEARNING them on steam. Who the hell even makes a system that removes freaking achievements after you've earned them, it's just stupid.
I already had those achievements on steam and they just went up and disappeared for some god forsaken reason so I called bullshit and re-achieved them through the achievement manager.
And THAT, ladies, gentlemen and those of unspecified gender, is justified use of the SAM (at least according to me).

tldr;
If you actually did as the achievement said and it bugged out and you're 100% sure you should've gotten it, I'd say go right ahead.

i rarely hunt for achievements, did it some times like with deus ex hr but mainly because i really liked the game (or because they are really easy and you just unlock them by playing).
with other games i just don't even care if it has or if it doesn't ... unless they are linked to unlockable stuff (like dawn of war 2: last stand :rage: ).

afaik, there are no leaderboards for achievements, so unlocking them it will affect you. unless someone is actually comparing their achievements to yours... which is a bit sad.

I loved playing Deus es human revolution. After completing it, I was craving for more. Can't wait for the new one

I love hunting achievements myself and I would never use SAM. Doesn't matter what circumstances. If the achievement is broken or it buged out for me I try again or move on.
