Hi guys, I have a key (I think) that I can't use (maybe). It's kind of a stupid story and I wanted to make a giveaway for it (perhaps).

But I was wondering if it was appropriate to use the support function to explain my stupid story to a staff member and get them to okay or deny a giveaway for this schrodinger's key.

I think I remember once reading that any weird situations should be okayed by staff before you proceed, but I've just flicked through most of the FAQ pages and couldn't really see anything that fits.

Should I contact them through the support page, or is there another way?

How can we answer if we don't know the story?

Well I didn't think anyone would want to know the story, and that wasn't really what I was asking. I was asking if the support page is where I should go to ask them about questionable keys.

I didn't want to waste their time if that's not what you're supposed to do.

no one can tell you for sure. If you give the key to someone who has the game already he wont know if already used or not. If you give it to someone who does not have it he either uses it or it is used anyway.

But yes,we cannot help you, only support can. But even if they allow it you risk a "not received" when the key does not work

Okay. I'll see what they say and take the risk.

I'd send an inquiry to support, just in case. Granted Support may not particularly care for the story behind it... And at worst they may ignore your check, at which point, I'd setup the giveaway.

Thanks, I guess I should just risk it, see how it turns out.

You also can explain here why the key may not be valid.
Probably if you think you can't use it,, will happen the same to others, so the "solution" may be to post it on the forum in case you don't want it.

Okay, I bought Deus Ex:HR Augmented Edition from gamersgate because I love the soundtrack. But when I went to redeem it steam told me it wouldn't because I already owned it. Now I had thought I owned the regular version, but now I can't remember if I had the regular or the Augmented and I don't know if the key redeemed and they just told me it didn't, or if it actually didn't.

I thought the message they gave you when you tried to activate something you partially owned was different, but now I'm not sure. I tried to redeem it again in the slim hope it would say the key has already been activated, but naturally it didn't say that.

It's valid then. If you bought the Deus Ex collection from steam, it doesn't include Augmented, so check your library for the extras to confirm.

I also think it's valid.
You should detail on the description that owners of regular version shouldn't enter as you couldn't activate it. In case the winner have it, ask for a reroll to support.

Make a giveaway and put a note in the description explaining the key might not work.

Add the winner when the giveaway ends, give the key in chat and if it works fine.

If not, buy a gift copy off the game that it is supposed to be for and gift it.

Or don't gift at all.
