make a giveaway that is open to all / no- or low-level restrictions. You will get a ton of thank-yous. At least that has been my experience.
Now I don't mind someone thanking me for actually winning / getting something. And if it were just one or two people saying thanks for a GA / chance to win, personally I wouldn't mind. But if you get a lot of ppl doing it, it can get annoying to get a flood of inbox replies that are just "thx" etc especially if you have multiple GAs going and like your inbox/replies to be just replies to discussion comments stuff. So even if I wouldn't BL over it myself, I can understand where he's coming from.
few weeks ago i had like 30+ giveaways running in that "delete key" group. some people thought that it would be ok to spam thanks in every single one of them. imagine opening sg to 99+ unread message that is only thanks :D
yeah, wouldn't be annoying if SG implemented it as an upvote counter or something instead of an inbox message, but i hear ya. i think on one of my GAs from a long time ago i said something like 'no need to say thanks' and in addtion to the regular ty's, i got a few jokers that said 'not thx' or some similar. never thought of saying i'll BL you if you say thanks without winning but got a chuckle out of it when I saw it :-)
Maybe that every question marks questions the pertinence of the question mark that precedes it.

I wouldn't blacklist anyone for it, but it gets really annoying. When there are a bunch of comments on giveaways that say thanks, other people entering see this and feel like they also have to say thanks, not because they want to, but because everyone else is and maybe they will be looked down on if they don't do the same.
The site used to be flooded with tons of thanks comments on every single giveaway. You could create a giveaway and get many pages of comments that just say thanks. Then you create 10, 20, or more giveaways and you are flooded with a massive number of meaningless comments that makes it hard to use the messaging system. Also, if there are any comments that might have some useful information that someone else might want to see, it will be buried on some random page between many pages of thanks. Nobody is going to scroll through many pages of thanks comments on every giveaway they open to look through all the comments and see if there is anything worth reading.
Basically, tons of people writing thanks for no reason on every giveaway they enter is just a bunch of spam and makes for a bad experience.
For example, cg created 5 giveaways a few years ago and got over 4000 comments of people saying thanks. This has to be very annoying.

These giveaways got over 1400 comments each, that's over 50 pages of comments on each giveaway. Just imagine what his inbox looks like with 4000 new messages. How is he supposed to sift through his inbox and find messages that are actually important.
