The Stage

The top of the Mont Ventoux looks quite similar to the moon, riding around there is a strange experience. Today is Bastille Day in France and the country will be hoping for a French winner but chances of that are quite slim. It seems quite likely that the general classification riders will be contesting the win today. Might Warren Barguil surprise us all here?

Edit: Because of high winds the stage has been shortened 6 km; the finish won't be on top of the Ventoux (venteux means windy in French) but at Chalet Reynard.

Edit: OMG, what just happened??? If 'supporters' were the cause of what happened to Froome then they should be shot!

Tour Touristique

The Pont du Gard is an ancient Roman aqueduct that crosses the Gardon River in southern France. The bridge has three tiers of arches, standing 48.8 m (160 ft) high. The whole aqueduct descends in height by only 17 m (56 ft) over its entire length, while the bridge descends by a mere 2.5 centimetres (1 in) – a gradient of only 1 in 3,000 – which is indicative of the great precision that Roman engineers were able to achieve, using only simple technology.
